Are you waiting on God, but it seems like He is ignoring your requests? Psalm 44 asks the Lord “Why do you sleep?” He doesn’t believe God left him, but was wondering why God seemed asleep. In the New Testament, the disciples wondered why Jesus was sleeping when the needed Him in the storm. In both cases God was ready to help, but He wished first to build faith in His followers. Remember, God knows what we need most. Many times what we get is not what we wanted at the moment, but what we needed. God can protect us by not giving us what we want. Think about it, If we always got all we wanted, then how much faith would we really have? If we always got what we wanted, why would we stick around when we didn’t? Our faith during times that God is silent speaks volumes more than when he answers. Ask yourself, are we created to get what we want? Or to help others get what they need? Gods inactivity is a beautiful way to show how amazing He is and it’s up to us to showcase God during all situations. So many people claim they want to find a health and fitness program that allows them to eat what they want, do what they want, and easily do it forever and still reach their goals. When I say that I can do that for them, they get all excited. When I show them the process and what they have to do, they suddenly get confused because it doesn’t involve some specific diet or workout program like they thought I’d say. People are so used to people telling them what to eat and what to do to become something they currently are not that anything that doesn’t do that, they don’t want it. Even if the person struggles to stay consistent with anything, and over time their health or weight is getting worse, they want to do the same thing. They tell themselves, “I’ll stay consistent with it this time.” Even if they don’t like the diet or working out, they tell themselves, this time, I’m going to stick with it…. I don’t have to tell you, but they are nearly always wrong. They can’t do it. It’s just a matter of time they go back to what they were doing. This is why my program, “The WHY WAY,” starts with who you are. Paul said in 2 Corinthians 12:9, “But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” You can’t pretend to be someone else and experience grace for who you are. You have to boast about your weaknesses. You can’t become all the Lord wants you to be by eating and doing things that the world tells you to do to be something else. (Not be fat, not be weak, not be unhealthy, etc.) You need to offer yourself as a holy sacrifice, not forget who you are, and try to be something else. I care how my clients screw up way more than how long they can follow orders. How someone deals with the obstacles and struggles of this world is where real change happens. Getting healthy is so much more than what you eat and working out. If you're stressing to do the “right thing”, you're simply trading one bad thing for another. If you truly want to get healthy, you have to stop conforming to the patterns of this World and align your your health and fitness with Biblical principles and God’s Truth. Attempting to get healthy on your own strength with some diet or exercise program is the same as trying to save yourself with The Law, it won’t work and you’ll always be stressing and struggling. Yesterday I finished reading Leviticus and here are some thoughts I had. God installed a system of sacrifices and laws to remind them of God’s holiness...of their sin...and of the way things ought to be had man never sinned. So if a young man skinned his knee on a rock and suffered an open cut wound while playing with his kids, he was considered "unclean." In this case, the man didn’t do anything wrong. God just wanted them to understand, “it wasn’t intended to be this way” (skinning knees, that is). This all got me thinking about this extensive “To-Do List” that would guarantee prosperity when followed. It got me thinking ”wouldn’t it be nice to have a Gor given list that would guarantee us prosperity? but wait, I don’t think I’d want those consequences!!! (Put to death, stoned, etc.” It’s awesome to be free from the law isn’t it? But just because we are no longer under the law, doesn’t mean that doesn’t and didn’t give us a plan to succeed. This plan may look different for us all (the steps, outcomes, and repercussions) but it’s still there, and we definitely have all the guidelines (the Bible). If you we don’t know the steps we must take, the first step is to seek the LORD and the Body (The church or ecclesia, as that is where He dwells and works) to find these steps. God in Christ is “reconciling” all things. He was, and is bringing it all back to the way it supposed to be. In redemption, we come back to God as the source of health and life. We retreat from our independence from him and our attempt to be “self-made.” We see that to make life work, we must turn to the One who makes life work. True health and growth begins with realizing we are “poor in spirit” and from this humble position reaching out to God and receive all that he has for us. (Matt. 5:3) When we realize that God is the source, we realize we are impoverished, and this puts us into a position to receive from Him. So redemption helps us get to the end of our attempts to provide for ourselves. Instead, we turn to God for strength, truth, healing, and health. But none of these are available to those who are still trying to provide them for themselves. Are you trying to get healthy all by yourself? Or are you looking to God as the source of your healing? Are you seeking first the Kingdom of God? Or are you searching Google first? Are you bringing the Body of Christ into your efforts first? Ever wonder how Noah got all those animals in the ark? I’m sure Noah was wondering how it would happen too when he first heard God's direction. Here’s the thing though, God took care of the details gathering all the animals while Noah was doing his part by building the ark. Often we do the opposite of Noah. We worry about details of which we have no control while neglecting specific areas (such as attitudes, relationships, and responsibilities) that are under our control. Too often, in health and fitness, we worry about the details (such as crazy diets and workouts) that don’t even apply to our desired outcome and forget about what is right in front of us. (Such as what we eat and currently do, our obstacles, weaknesses, and responsibilities placed before us) We are too busy trying to be something we are not and complaining about our situations while forgetting what God has given us and being thankful. I know too many people struggling with diabetes, cancer, high blood pressure & cholesterol, sleep apnea, chronic inflammation, and in general, having too much body fat, which affects every area of their life. Here is the worst part, when I ask them what they’re doing, all they do is tell me one of three things. 1. They are trying to eat “clean” and get some extra exercise. When I ask them what “clean” means to them, they usually have no clue where to begin or rattle off some random types of food. 2. They are struggling with some worldly diet or workout program, which either isn’t changing them much, or if it does, they struggle so hard that they lost their joy of life trying to maintain, and then I watch them go right back to square one or worse. 3. They have given up entirely as they have tried many times options 1 and 2, only to find themselves just as out of shape and with more health problems. The typical response is to blame their age, their surroundings, their jobs, or even their health issues. So I tell them there is a way to give it all to God, stop struggling, and get truly healthy. A way to be good stewards of their bodies and keep their temple clean for God. Here is the worst part. Most don’t care to change and prefer to live their lives in the current state of struggle. (most likely because they are tired and don't have faith they can change) It’s like they forget Romans 12:1-2 and don’t care to offer their bodies up as a living sacrifice. They only want to copy the customs of this world and never feel the true transformation God offers. It’s so sad. I may be a voice in the desert, but if anyone wants to feel the relief from your health struggles, you know where to find me. I will help you offer your body as a living sacrifice to the Lord. The best part, His burden is easy, and yoke is light. (Matt 11:30) It won’t interfere with your life, and it doesn’t require you to copy the behaviors and patterns of this world.
