Have you ever wanted a tapestry bag but thought "why can't I find one with bats on it?" Than this is the bag for you. I should know, I made it...
Made of deadstock tapestry fabric, deadstock cotton floral lining, black polyester lining fabric and miscellaneous button and bag hardware I had lying around. Even the thread is 70s deadstock.
I'm really proud of how this bag turned out, so somebody come buy this thing before I decide to keep it for myself.
Wanna be the coolest one at the quilting bee? Cosplay as a granny orc at a local convention? or just to visit the nearest dark forest to bring some snacks to your cryptid pals? This is the vest for you.
Made from a swamp green wool fabric, inside lining is a brown patterned deadstock fabric. The patchwork appliques on the back and front of the garment were hand pieced and sewn by me. All the scrap fabric used is from the 20s to the 50s. The lace used on the front of the vest is also vintage scrap. The bias tape, rickrack and ties are 90s deadstock.
While I was cleaning out old bookmarks on my desktop I found the page that made my shop go sort of viral.
Back in early 2019 an item from my shop was included in one of those cringe gift guides you can find on the internet. At the time I was bewildered as to why my sleepy little Etsy which only ever garnered maybe a dozen visitor weekly suddenly had a few hundred in 24 hours. This flood of people continued for a few days before dropping off to eventually going back to my normal trickle. I am aware that this is the small end of what "going viral" can mean for a small business, but considering how niche and tiny my business is, a few hundred visitors was huge for me. Also it was pre-covid, the world was different then.
I should mention I only made two sales from that surge, of all the hundreds of people finding my shop...two sales. I'm not complaining, I appreciate all sales I get, but it should demonstrate to people that exposure doesn't always pay the bills.
Anyways it took a bit of sleuthing but I finally found the source of this small surge, the culprit? Buzzfeed.
Specifically this gift guide - 24 Things to Buy on Etsy If You're Morbid As Hell
My shop if featured as No. 16, a choker that I had on my site for years before it was featured on this guide. It's one of the two things sold btw.
I still find the title of this guide rather amusing, mainly because even before this guide came out I had several family friends, who upon learning what my small business is and its heavy inspiration by Victorian customs surrounding death and mourning told me they considered it "morbid and creepy as hell". everything comes full circle.
I have since in the last year or so tried to expand my influences/inspirations a little bit, not because of the criticism, but to introduce more things in the shop and maybe appeal to more than three people on the internet. Also I'm going through a "goth granny in the wood who befriends cryptids and forest animals" phase right now, so...expect more weird mash-up pieces from me in the future I guess.
Anyways, I just though I'd share this little memory with everyone. I know its a bit different from my usual posts, but idk I just felt like sharing it.
I guess you can call this my version of a battle vest, just more granny meets folk punk. Moss Punk? Cottagepunk? I don't know where this vest sits aesthetically speaking but its my vibe so enjoy it in its weird splendor.
I might just keep it for myself, I don't know how many people would want something like this. I might throw it up on the site for a few weeks and see if anyone buys it.
Its made of 100% wool fabric in a swampy green color with a unintentional ombre feature dur to age. The lining is a brown forest patterned cotton fabric, all the fabric used in the appliques are vintage fabric scraps, each from about 1920s thru the 1950s.
I'll upload better pictures later, I was just excited to finally finish this piece. It took about a month and a half since most of this vest was sewn by hand.
Re-posting from the shops TikTok. I'm trying to post videos as well as pictures of the items I make for the shop. Its a struggle because of my potato phone but its a start.
**A sneak peek at what is coming to the shop January 20th.**
I've decided before I list anything new in the shop I might as well try to clean out some of the older pieces first. So if you have any holiday money to spend and you want something from the shop I recommend buying it now, this really is the largest discount sale I will be having for AWHILE. 30% off everything in the shop!
Sale ends January 15th, and the discount applies at checkout. (no code needed)
This sale applies to both the etsy shop and the main shop
If you are interested in getting anything in my shop as a gift this holiday season and you want to have a fighting change it might arrive before the 25th, the deadline is December 14th.
I do offer holiday rush orders but you need to contact me ASAP to make sure I can accommodate your rush request. This does mean you will have to pay more in shipping since it's a more expensive shipping option (ie Priority Mail shipping which the shipping deadline for Priority is December 20 or 21st I believe.)
This deadline is for both the main shop and the shops Etsy.
If you have any questions feel free to message me here or through either shop.
