The cityspeaker is going to find some cool, dark space in the base and tuck herself into it, wings down, rubbing her face and ignoring the throbbing behind her optics as best she can.

Windblade is genuinely fascinated by the human children in the base once she meets them. She was fairly young when she was taken for training anyway, so she’s used to being around those considered adolescents, and she’s not very old herself, barely over four million.

Not that she knows what to make of them, but she does like them.

Small hands reached out to rest on his arm, her expression softening. There was a lot of turmoil in the air already, enough that it made her processor ache, but she pushed the pending migraine aside for the sake of her companion.

He didn’t need her like that. He needed her able to help, and that’s what she was best at. Helping.

“You know how much I worry, right? And don’t you dare tell me I shouldn’t.”

When she had first encountered Predaking, Windblade hadn’t really been entirely certain what to make of him. The predacon was massive, and could have easily ended her in one bite if he so chose…

Instead, he’d seemed to take to her, becoming more protective than she had ever anticipated. Even the genericons aboard the Nemesis wouldn’t get too close to her so long as he roamed so near to her. With her unable to fly to flee, no one had really question it too greatly.

“I fully expect you to come back here, safe and in one piece.”

Well, he wasn’t wrong. Windblade was watching the Decepticon air commander closely, shoulders tense, expression clearly anxious. She hadn’t stabbed him yet, not because she feared reprisal - that could come at any time. But why she hadn’t? It was hard to say.

Her hands tightened on the hilt of her sword, one pede shifting back slightly. Should she try to run instead?

“You haven’t given me reason to yet.”

Partly a lie. His treatment of her teammates prior hadn’t exactly been the gold standard of pleasantries. But the cityspeaker herself had not been harmed, and her own curiosity continued to boil behind her spark. Was he even fully aware of what she was? And if he was… then what exactly was it that he planned to do with her?

The venom in the voice catches the young cityspeaker off-guard, and her wings draw back and up, expression tense. Her optics focus on the face, but while the body language and even the expression to some extent read familiar, she just can’t place them.

It couldn’t be… could it? The multiverse was a strange place, after all.

“…Starscream?” Her optics narrow and she takes a step back, head tilting this way and that. “Is that you?”

How does one decide to become a cityspeaker?

“I wouldn’t really call it a decision. Usually cityspeakers are selected when they’re fairly young, and they’re picked because they show the signs of having the gift- latent telepathy that allows us to touch the minds of metrotitans, and more easily understand their ancient language.

Technically, according to the Mistress of Flame, we all have a choice. But it’s made pretty clear to us that it isn’t so much a choice as “a very frowned upon suggestion.” It’s an honor to serve in such a capacity, anyway.

Still, it would’ve been nice to have not spent much of my early life in training.”

Quick headcanon before I go to sleep:

Due to her latent telepathy, if she's not mindful, Windblade can get overwhelmed when in a group setting. She's prone to crippling migraines when there's too many "loud" thoughts, which lead her to seek dark, cool, quiet places for reprieve.

She rarely goes to Ratchet despite this, as she knows he's often busy and doesn't like to impose.
