"I've missed this," he admitted, his thumb gently tracing circles on your skin. "I've missed you."
You squeezed his hand, feeling the tension in your chest ease slightly. "I’ve missed you too, Kenji. It’s just… hard, you know? Watching you juggle everything and feeling like I’m on the sidelines."
Kenji sighed, his gaze dropping to the table. "I know. And I’m sorry. I never wanted you to feel that way. It’s just… between baseball, Emi, and… everything else, I haven’t been handling things well."
You reached out, lifting his chin so his eyes met yours. "You don’t have to do it all alone, Kenji. I’m here. We’re a team, remember?"
His lips curved into a small, grateful smile. "I remember." He leaned in, brushing a soft kiss against your lips. "Thank you for reminding me."
"Want to come back to my place?" he asked, his voice low and inviting. "I think we could use some more time together."
You nodded, feeling a flutter of anticipation in your stomach. "I'd like that."
The walk to Kenji's apartment was quiet, the city lights casting a soft glow around you. When you arrived, he opened the door for you, ushering you inside with a gentle touch.
The apartment was tidy, but you could see the signs of his busy life. A baseball glove on the couch, a stack of newspapers on the table, and Emi’s toys neatly arranged in a corner. You turned to him, a small smile playing on your lips.
"You’ve been busy," you teased lightly.
Kenji chuckled, running a hand through his hair. "You have no idea."
He stepped closer, wrapping his arms around you and pulling you against his chest. The tension of the past weeks seemed to melt away as you sank into his embrace, his warmth and scent enveloping you.
"I’ve missed this too," he murmured against your hair.
You tilted your head up, capturing his lips in a slow, lingering kiss. He responded eagerly, his hands roaming over your back, pulling you even closer. The kiss deepened, and you felt a familiar heat building between you.
"Bedroom?" you whispered against his lips.
Kenji nodded, taking your hand and leading you down the hall. The room was dimly lit, the soft glow of a bedside lamp casting shadows on the walls. He pulled you into another kiss, his hands sliding under your shirt, tracing the contours of your body.
You responded with equal fervor, your fingers fumbling with the buttons of his shirt. The urgency of your movements was tempered by the tenderness in each touch, a reminder of the connection you both shared.
Clothes were shed in a flurry of movement, and soon you found yourselves tangled in the sheets, the weight of the world momentarily forgotten. Kenji’s kisses were everywhere, a mixture of need and reverence as if he were trying to memorize every inch of you.
"God, I’ve missed this," he breathed, his voice rough with emotion.
You arched into his touch, your own hands exploring the familiar lines of his body. The night was a blur of whispered confessions and lingering touches, each moment a reminder of the love and passion that had brought you together. As you lay entwined in the aftermath, you felt a sense of peace settle over you.
Kenji pulled you close, his breath warm against your skin. "I’m going to make this work," he promised. "For us."
You smiled, pressing a kiss to his chest. "I believe you."

I just wanna say: the way that Shannon Tindle posts and reposts posts about Ken, you can't tell me the designers and animators didn't know what they were doing when they made him

The aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the air as you stepped into the quaint little café near your apartment. The place had become your sanctuary, a quiet escape from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo. Today, however, the familiar comfort did little to ease the anxiety knotting in your stomach. You hadn't seen Kenji in weeks, and his increasingly sporadic texts had left you feeling more alone than ever.
You spotted him sitting at a corner table, his baseball cap pulled low over his face. Despite his efforts to blend in, his striking features and athletic build made him stand out. He looked up as you approached, a tired smile tugging at his lips.
"Hey," he greeted, standing up to pull out your chair for you. "I'm glad you could make it."
You returned his smile, though it felt strained. "Hey, Kenji. Thanks for inviting me."
As you settled into your seat, Kenji ordered two coffees, knowing your favorite by heart. The two of you chatted about mundane things at first—work, the weather, a funny incident at the baseball game last night. But there was an underlying tension, a weight to his words that you couldn't quite place.
"Is everything okay?" you finally asked, unable to keep the concern out of your voice. "You seem... off today."
Kenji's eyes flickered with uncertainty. He took a deep breath as if steeling himself. "It's just... there's a lot going on."
You nodded slowly, trying to keep your frustration in check. "I know you're busy with baseball and... other things, but I feel like I hardly see you anymore. It feels like you're slipping away."
He looked down at his coffee, his shoulders slumping. "I'm sorry. I never wanted to make you feel like that. It's just been... really tough lately."
You reached across the table, placing your hand over his. "Kenji, I get that you're busy, but I miss you. I miss us. And I worry about you."
He looked up, his eyes filled with a mix of guilt and exhaustion. "I know. And I miss you too. It's just... there's so much pressure. With baseball, with everything else. And then there's Emi..."
You squeezed his hand gently. "You can talk to me, you know. You don't have to carry all of this on your own."
Kenji sighed, his eyes betraying just how weary he truly was. "I don't want to burden you with all my problems. I want to protect you from all of this."
You shook your head, your grip on his hand tightening. "We're a team, Kenji. You don't have to protect me from your life. I want to be a part of it, all of it. Even the hard parts."
His expression softened, and for a moment, you saw a glimmer of hope in his eyes. "I just... I don't want to let you down."
"You won't," you assured him. "But you have to let me in. You have to trust me."
Kenji nodded slowly as if processing your words. "Okay. I'll try. It's just... it's hard, balancing everything. I feel like I'm constantly running on empty."
You leaned in closer, your voice gentle but firm. "Then let me help. We can figure this out together."
For a while, you both sat in comfortable silence, sipping your coffee and letting the tension between you slowly dissipate. The conversation shifted back to lighter topics, but there was an unspoken understanding that things needed to change.
As you left the café together, Kenji took your hand in his, a silent promise of support and trust. The world outside felt a little more daunting, but with Kenji by your side, you felt ready to face whatever came your way—together.

Behind the Mask
Kenji Sato x reader
Summary: Kenji Sato, the star baseball player and the new Ultraman, struggles with the burden of his dual identity. One evening, he decides to share his secret with you, hoping for understanding and support.

The warm lights of the city reflected off the windows of the cozy Tokyo apartment as you prepared dinner. The soft hum of the refrigerator and the clinking of utensils were the only sounds in the room. You glanced at the clock, noting that Kenji was running late again. It wasn’t unusual—between his baseball career and the mysterious "other job" he never spoke much about, his schedule was always unpredictable.
You sighed, stirring the pot of miso soup, when you heard the front door creak open. Kenji stepped in, looking exhausted but smiling warmly at you.
"Sorry I'm late," he said, kicking off his shoes and making his way to the kitchen.
"It's okay," you replied, offering him a reassuring smile. "Dinner’s almost ready. Tough day at practice?"
Kenji chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck. "Yeah, something like that."
There was something in his tone that made you pause. It wasn’t just fatigue; it was deeper, a weariness you hadn’t heard before. You turned off the stove and faced him, concern etched on your features.
"Kenji, are you okay? You seem... different tonight."
He took a deep breath, his eyes meeting yours. There was a flicker of uncertainty, but also determination. "Actually, there's something I need to tell you. Something important."
Your heart skipped a beat. You nodded, gesturing for him to sit at the table. "Of course, you can tell me anything."
Kenji sat down, his hands clasped together on the table. He seemed to be gathering his thoughts, struggling to find the right words. Finally, he spoke, his voice steady but tinged with vulnerability.
"Do you remember when we first met? You asked me why I never stayed in the spotlight, why I kept my distance from the media and even my teammates."
You nodded, recalling those early days of your relationship. Kenji had always been a bit of an enigma, a star player who shunned the limelight.
"The truth is," he continued, "it wasn't just because I preferred my privacy. It was because I have another responsibility, one that I haven't been able to share with anyone... until now."
You leaned forward, your curiosity piqued. "What do you mean?"
Kenji opened his mouth to speak but hesitated, his gaze dropping to the table. He took a deep breath, his fingers tapping nervously against the wood. "It's... complicated. And I don't want you to think differently of me."
You reached out, placing your hand over his. "Kenji, whatever it is, we'll face it together."
He looked up, a mixture of fear and resolve in his eyes. "I hope you mean that," he murmured, almost to himself. He took another deep breath, his shoulders tense. "I'm Ultraman."
For a moment, the words hung in the air, almost surreal. You blinked, trying to process what he had just said. "Ultraman? Like, the Ultraman? The one who fights Kaiju?"
He nodded, watching your reaction carefully. "Yes. My father was Ultraman before me, and when he got injured, I had to take over. That's why I moved back to Japan and I’m always disappearing without much explanation."
You stared at him, a mixture of disbelief and awe washing over you. "But... how? When?"
Kenji sighed, running a hand through his hair. "It's a long story. My father always wanted me to follow in his footsteps, but I resisted. I wanted to make a name for myself in baseball, away from all the danger and responsibility. But when he got hurt, I had no choice but to step up."
You pulled your hand back, struggling to wrap your mind around his revelation. "This is... a lot to take in, Kenji. Why didn't you tell me sooner?"
He looked down, his expression filled with regret. "I didn't want to burden you with it. I thought... maybe you'd be safer not knowing. But lately, it's been getting harder to keep it from you. I hate lying to you, and I need you to understand what I'm dealing with."
You stood up, pacing the small kitchen. "This is... I mean, I understand why you kept it a secret, but... Ultraman? That's huge, Kenji. It’s not just some little thing you can drop on someone."
Kenji stood as well, a look of desperation in his eyes. "I know. And I'm sorry. I just couldn't keep it from you any longer. I need you to know the real me."
You stopped pacing and turned to face him. "I need some time to process this. It’s not that I don’t support you, but... this changes everything."
He nodded, a pained expression on his face. "I understand. Take all the time you need. Just know that I’m here and I want us to face this together."
You took a deep breath, nodding slowly. "Okay. We’ll figure this out. But it’s going to take some time."
Kenji gave you a small, relieved smile. "Thank you. That’s all I can ask for."
As you both sat back down, the weight of his revelation settled between you. It would be a long journey, but together, you knew you could face the challenges ahead.
