Conversations with random strangers.
As I was waiting for the TTC tonight after my flight from Boston, a stranger asked me if this was the train to Finch Station. I quickly nodded and went back to my podcasts, but he made some more small talk that led to a full on conversation that took up the whole ride up from Union Station to Shepherd where I got off. Our conversation started at the fact that he was worried he'd missed his bus at Finch to get back home and how he was still getting accumulated to the city after moving from Windsor to Toronto for school. This led to me asking him what he was studying in school, which led to a full blown conversation about video game design (his major) and the sheer amount of work there is to do just for a single movement. He also talked about a startup project that he was working on with a few friends that completely blew my mind. It was amazing just to hear about the potential impact his product could have on healthcare in years to come. I ended up getting his contact info so that he could give me updates on the progress of his project and his game. All of this wouldn't have happened had I decided to ignore him after he asked me a question, but I've always been the chatty type and appreciate the opportunity to have a random conversation with a complete stranger. I've had some fantastic conversations with complete strangers throughout the years. The beauty of all these conversations is that there no investment to continue chatting after the conversation. On a Porter flight, I had a wonderful chat with a child psychiatrist and got so much insight on the current happenings in the world of child psychology. I've had countless conversations with Steelers fans because of the gear I was wearing at the time. There's obvious a time and place to have conversations with random strangers. The next time you have an opportunity to strike up a conversation with a stranger, keep an open mind and try to have a random conversation. You never know what you might find out. Until next time friends, Will

Week 6!
Just got into Boston so uber quick post before I had out! I'll post the whole week 6 picks tonight.
For now, here's the Thursday Night pick
New York Giants @ Chicago Bears (-8) - Giants ATS
Could the Giants be as bad as the Jaguars? A lot of people seem to think so, but I don't. Bears' D isn't the same anymore, they're currently giving up an average of 28 points per game compared to the 17.3 this time last year.
Giants just look brutal and still somehow have a chance to win their division with their 0-5 record. They're not going to win this game given their injuries. However, I still believe they'll keep this game respectable.
Bears by 7.

Week 5 NFL Picks
Another week and more picks! Keeping this week's picks real short! No Steelers game this week so I don't have to watch another depressing game too. Last week's pick-em record: 10-5 Last week's ATS record: 9-5-1 Not a bad performance! Surprised I did alright actually! Onward to week 5! Winners in bold & ATS will be in bold as well TNF Buffalo Bills @ Cleveland Browns (-4) - Bills ATS So how about dem Browns!? 2-0 with Brian Hoyer and no Trent Richardson who was averaging around ~3 YPC. Bills are coming off a strong W against the Ravens last week. I'm looking for EJ to win it on the road! Bills by 3 1:05 Games Baltimore Ravens @ Miami Dolphins (-3) Ravens ATS Both these teams are coming off losses and are facing a ton of questions whether or not they're the real deal. I'm looking at the Ravens to come back strong against the doubters. Ravens by 6 New Orleans Saints (-1) @ Chicago Bears - Saints ATS Brees continues to roll in their season. Do watch out for the run though. The Saints' D isn't as amazing as people think especially on run defence. They give up a league worst 5.5 YPC. It won't matter in this game though. Saints by 10 New England Patriots (-1) @ Cincinnati Bengals - Pats ATS Losing Wilfork sucks for the Pats and I really hope it doesn't ruin their season. He was the team's second best player. Pats by 5 Detroit Lions @ Green Bay Packers (-7) - Lions ATS Packers by 3 Seattle Seahawks (-3) @ Indianapolis Colts - Seahawks ATS Hawks by 8 Jacksonville Jaguars @ St. Louis Rams (-11.5) - Jags ATS Jags can't be this bad right? RIGHT?! ATS upset pick! Kansas City Chiefs (-3) @ Tennessee Titans - Chiefs ATS Titans losing Locker really hurts especially when they were starting to come together as a team. Let's see what Fitzmagic can do in his place. KC will win, but this will be a closer game than the score indicates. KC by 7 Philadelphia Eagles @ New York Giants (-2) - Eagles ATS Both of these teams have gone way downhill. I'll believe in Vick just a little bit more than Eli this time. Man this game is going to be miserable to watch. Eagles by 3. 4:05/4:25 Games Carolina Panthers (-2.5) @ Arizona Cardinals - Cards ATS Another terrible game that I won't be stopping. Luckily there are only two games at 4:25. Cards with the upset special. Cards by 1. Denver Broncos (-9) @ Dallas Cowboys - Broncos ATS Watching Peyton play on this Denver team is just a trip every week. Broncos will win this game huge and that crappy NFC division will get even more entertaining. Can't hate too much though, AFC North isn't that great either. SNF Houston Texans @ San Francisco 49ers (-6) - 49ers ATS How can you even choose the Texans now with that bad loss last game. Schaub is on thin ice with this Houston team. Kaep and the Niners will win this game easily. 49ers by 15 San Diego Chargers (-5) @ Oakland Raiders - Chargers ATS Terrible Pryor is back this week and that actually makes me happy. Rivers is a having a great season and I really hope that this game will be entertaining to be honest. Chargers by 10 MNF New York Jets @ Atlanta Falcons (-10) - Jets ATS Falcons' 1-3 record can be very misleading as they've played a few decent teams. I don't expect the Jets to win this game, but I see Sexy Rexy drawing up a great defensive game plan to keep this game close. Falcons by 7. Pick'em record: 37-26 ATS record: 31-29-3

Day 29: 2 Shows to Watch post-Breaking Bad

That was a heck of an ending to an amazing series. I'm interested to see how this shows holds up in terms of legacy compared to some of the iconic shows like The Wire & The Sopranos. I definitely found that Breaking Bad's ending was far better than the two mentioned above, however it's still too soon. Now that the show has ended, you might be pressed to find a replacement for Breaking Bad. Let's get one thing straight first, you're not going to replace the void that Breaking Bad has left as it's one those iconic shows that doesn't come often. Whatever the case, here are two shows to check out now that Breaking Bad is forever gone. 1) Mad Men

This drama follows the one of the most prestigious advertising agencies in New York during the 1960's. The main lead of this show is the ever so talented, yet enigmatic ad executive Donald Draper. As someone who's worked in advertising, I am completely fascinated at how this show illustrates the process of coming up with the perfect ad. The characters are fantastic and easily relatable. 2) Parenthood
This isn't a show out that there that has consistently left me crying or on the verge of tears as much as this show. This show is about the Braverman family which extends to three different generations. No matter what demographic you are as a viewer, there will be a Braverman family member that you can relate to. Simply put, this show makes you feel. Whether it's pure joy or sadness, this show will tug your heartstrings throughout the series. Have your tissues box ready. Until next time friends, Will

Day 28: Lessons learned from BlogEveryDayinSept
With #BlogEveryDayinSept winding down, I wanted to take some time to write about some lessons learned during this project. When I first started, I knew that it could be a tough challenge because I've always had that issue of being a perfectionist rather than a completionist as Beth Dunn would call it. Here are some lessons I've gained throughout the challenge: 1. Inspiration can come from anywhere When I have to blog everyday and aren't the most creative person, getting inspiration on what topics to write wasn't going to come easy. That's what I thought initially anyway and because of this, I was able to open my eyes and ears to surroundings around me to get inspired. There are so many ideas that I haven't written about because I wanted to save for later that just came from random events like talking to my doctor or taking out the garbage. Ideas can come from everywhere, you just have to be paying attention. 2. Don't waste time Sacrifices will need to be made when you have to blog everyday. It's not a bad thing because you're doing something fantastic. I've watched less TV and read so much more during this time which is something I didn't expect in the beginning. If not having enough time is something you would say when approaching a challenge like this or in general then the harsh truth you need to face is that you're likely not willing to make some sacrifices to make it happen. I found that I needed to get my ideas on paper in some form right away when I get inspired. I've always been like that even during my comedy days. The key is following through on adding more to initial idea. Put everything on paper and just put it out if it makes the most minimum standards you've set. 3. The more you write, the more creative you become As long as you're constantly writing, the more likely it will be that your perspective evolves over time. Your writing skills will improve as well as long as you're open to criticism because you'll figure out what works or doesn't. Stay open tot the criticism, but do not fear it as well. Your perspective will change as you write since you're going to be exposed to new areas that you can write about. As for the areas you're an expert in, your perspective can also change and you will start to approach things differently. I've always love writing about football/basketball picks from a statistical standpoint. Because of the amount of research I've done for the football blogs, I've started to understand the game at a different standpoint. I've never played a down in my life so I've only understood the game from the stats standpoint. Throughout the years, I've begun to understand the strategy behind all the different schemes used but this challenge really accelerate that. I strongly recommend that you give this challenge a try. It's going to be fun month of you creatively. Always keep writing! I Until next time friends, Will
