How I push through writing when I don't feel like writing.
Here are some of the techniques that I use to help me write more often or more consistantly when my laziness/depression/anxiety starts to take over.
I watch TV. I don't do it with the purpose of zoning out though. I watch something popular and well-liked such as the LOR or Harry Potter to get new ideas on how I can develop my story and apply their in-depth world-building ideas to help develop mine. Without plagarizing of course!!!!
Zoning out and daydreaming. As I have mentionned before, daydreaming is a huge part of my story outlining and world-building process. I'll stand in the shower, or take a walk and think about how my charcaters would act/react/behave in situations, mundane or not. Doing this gives me a better sense of my characters, and sometimes gives me ideas for scenes I use later on.
Work on writing related projects. These work well at keeping me distracted while still being productive on my writing goals. Example, I have one story I am working now, I made a new language (alphabet and numbers included) to include as a cool and fun component for the book. So, at times when I don't wan't to write, I continue creating the dictionary (very fun, 8/10 would recommend). Also, for the same book, my characters don't work off the Georigian calendar and 24 hour clock, so I've been working at creating a new calendar (harder than it seems, 2.5/10 dont recommend). These are side projects that help my story, without having to write.
Reading. You saw this one coming, I know. Reading is great, especially when you're editing, your writing style will unconsciously change to be more similar the author you were just reading. Also, most importantly, I'll be reading and think, "this story is really good, but you know what story I like even better? Mine." then change to writing.
This one is my biggest life saver!! I learnt about a year ago that sometimes I'll get bored of writing a story, and have difficulty keeping on track. That's why I finished my first book in 2016 and just started editing the first draft last week. The solution for me was to work on multiple projects at once, because it was much harder to be bored of multiple stories. I stick to 2, but will sometimes add a third. This is easy for me, because I have a list of over a dozen series I want to write. Don't abandon one project for another, use them as a distraction/ motivation for each other, so you're always furthering at least one project. I've never heard someone say, "oh no, i accidentally worked on this other writing project for three months instead of the other writing project I was doing. Dammit." No, we're just happy we have written something. Be sure to have well outlined story lines before starting, don't just start writing randomly or you'll reach a point where you don't know where to go from there.
Author/ writer projects. Maybe this is building a following, or community to share your projects and engage with. Tumblr, Insta, Reddit, whatever it is. My hope this year is to start up my website to offer publishing services (editing, graphic design, short writing courses) and build a following as a writer. (See what I did there? Never a bad time to self-promote ;) ) Having your own projects like this will help you in the future when you're going to try to publish and sell your books!
Talk with friends and a writing community. Never underestimate the passion that will burn inside you when talking about your story, or when others are talking about theirs. Surrounding yourself with a positive writing community can be the best thing for you as a writer.
Write or read (your story) every day. I'm not going to be one of those people that say you need to write 1000 words a day, that's a lot. But maybe try for 100? That could maybe only take 5 minutes, and at the end of the year that's still over 36 thousand words of a novel. Or just read your story, and I've always found it helped me get in the creative mood.
Make a playlist of songs that remind you of your characters, your story, or just puts you in the mood to write. Then play it ONLY when you're having trouble writing. Playing it while writing will not help, you'll get annoyed with the songs.
Just really can't do it today? That's okay, take a break. You deserve it. There's always tomorrow.
Does anyone else have ways they push themselves to keep writing? Let us know in the comments!
Happy Writing!

Keep Writing, Keep Creating
With all the conversations going on over the past few days in the Dreamling fandom - I think a lot of people could be feeling stalled on their writing/art in one way or another on stuff they might have had in progress.
This is your nudge.
(Cause I'm feeling it, too.)
Take a deep breath and keep writing.
Take a deep breath and keep drawing.
Take a deep breath and keep creating those metas, making those gifsets, designing those moodboards, making memes, you name it.
You can keep something in mind - and be aware of it - and not address it in your current project. That's okay. Allow people to be critical of characters, of the show, in their own spaces, and focus on your own works and projects. You don't need to engage, and in fact, it's better if you don't.
(If you want some great reads on the topics over the past few days - please check out @seiya-starsniper and their blog. ALSO, their writing is AMAZING, so after you've done that, please go devour their entire Ao3, you can thank me later.)
Keep writing, keep creating, and keep trucking on, darlings. The fandom world will always keep spinning.

Walter looks at his watch and decides that fifteen minutes is more than enough time to crank out a quick one.
He sets his phone on vibrate and sets it aside. Any other day, he would pull up some kind of something on his phone to watch while he gets in the mood. But with what she was wearing today, he doesn’t need to do much mental gymnastics to get right back there.
He takes his dick out and closes his eyes to think about her.
He imagined her sitting in his lap, her black denim skirt riding up her thick brown thighs. The sound of her fishnet tights ripping as he tore a hole in the crotch of them was music to his ears. His dick was already out, full, and sitting up out of his open jeans.
He would reach down between them and make the head of his dick nice and wet with her juices as she moaned in his ear. Sliding inside, they both his at the tight squeeze. He grabs her hips and begins to move her in a slow and steady rhythm up and down his length. Her arms around his neck and her hands in his hair leave her lips to connect with his.
He loves when her hands are in his hair. Her little obsession drives him wild.
He grabs a handful of her ass before smacking it loudly. Growling into her mouth as she answers with a moan.
“Oh, fuck, Princess. You feel so fucking good, babygirl.”
“Fuck, Daddy, you feel even better.”
He begins to move his hips, fucking up into her tight pussy as she takes everything she gives him.
“Daddy, come inside me. Give me a baby, Daddy. Please, fuck a baby into me.”
He thinks he hears wrong at first but the way she keeps saying it has him realizing he did in fact hear correctly. His hips stutter as he can feel his balls tighten.
“Have my kids, Princess. I’m gonna make you a Mommy…ugh, fuck!”
He can feel every spurt of cum as his dick shoots deep inside her.
His eyesight is struggling as he comes back to himself. His hand and sweater were covered in thick, creamy ropes.

I met my younger self last evening, in my old diaries. She and I have this wonderful habit of writing things down, we've written our worries, sadness, joy, and achievements. Last to last winter I got into the habit of maintaining a gratitude journal; I used to write my goals and one good thing that happened to me that day. The last entry was on the 5th of April 2021, right before my mom fell sick. I thought that would have been the last entry, but I flipped through the pages and saw the next one- 14th June. I paused. I didn't know I held that kind of courage to walk back into a life where everything kept falling apart. I didn't know I had it in me to find my way back within one month of losing her. And no, I'm not glorifying it- I always considered myself too weak, gave lame excuses on how I couldn't do something but that one entry held so much truth. At that moment, all I wanted to do was to hug my younger self, apologize to her and tell her how proud of her I was.

Hi, it’s me again. Just wanna say please don’t give up on writing. Even when you feel like no one sees your work, even if you don’t get the amount of notes you wanted to reach, even if you think no one is reading. Keep writing, keep posting, don’t give up on something you love. Don’t be afraid to rec your fics to others. I promise you, there are others that are so happy you post your work and they love reading it! I know this platform can be very discouraging and can be negative on the mindset, but never think for one second your work was for nothing 🩷 I just know someone needed to hear that today 🩷

Friendly neighbourhood writer here…
How often do we call someone “the woman”, “the other man”, “the blond/e”, “the taller girl”… (you get my drift) in our minds, as opposed to “he/she/they/favoured pronoun” or “name”?
And why do we bend over backwards in our writing to avoid writing “he” or “she” (or whatever pronoun) more than twice in a row?
1. It’s okay to do that and just change between “name” and “pronoun” because it honestly sounds far more natural than bringing in a random descriptor at every corner.
2. If you feel that too many of your sentences start with “name” or “pronoun”, “name” or “pronoun” is not your problem. Your syntax is. So mix up your sentence structure, and you’ll be fine.
“He sat down and sighed. He struggled to find the right words. He looked so defeated.”
⬇️
“Frank sat down and sighed. The man struggled to find the right words. He looked so defeated.”
⬇️
“Frank sat down and sighed. An air of defeat surrounded him as he seemingly struggled to find the right words.”
Or something like that, depending on your style 🙂

Encouragement
The biggest reason I am so enamoured with tumblr is that it’s such a supportive place to share your creations. While some work on here is indeed impressive, I love it that we all just share and support each other to grow, no matter what skill level we are at.
I have been writing since I was a child on and off, and it’s something that is deeply important to me, but honestly, my work got so much better when I first did a blog on here some years ago. I think a big part of the reason is because of that encouragement. You also get to know what others enjoy. You can literally see when you’ve written something good and it’s often surprising what it is that others like. Sometimes it’s even work that I wasn’t so sure of myself that others were drawn to.
As a challenge to myself, for several months I decided I was going to write every single day. I was so inspired by what I saw here that I was never short of inspiration. It was like somehow we are all in collaboration, adding our words to the conversation. That conversation with the world, with ourselves and each other is the important thing. It makes me want to think and to create.
Being in that writing habit, that’s the key to your growth. Just read, and push yourself to write. Find inspiration in the writers around you that you love. Read poetry, see how it all fits together, how it feels, how the rhythm flows, where it rhymes and half rhymes, where words sound comfortable together, where they clash deliberately and keep going!
May your writing journey bring you much joy!
P.S. I am dyslexic and dyspraxic. Don’t let anybody tell you learning difficulties have to be a barrier to your joy, they don’t.

Music is such a pivotal part of my writing. I could be staring at a computer screen, dead eyes, and not a single coherent thought in my head.
And then a certain song comes on, and without a doubt, the ideas start pouring in. Dialogue moves with ease, and a scene comes together on the blank document like the stars appearing in the sky as the sun descends below the horizon.
I never use music with lyrics, only sounds. And most are calm with a rhythmic beat that's both steady yet not too blaring.
I've found that Quiet Quest on YouTube has been my go-to lately. They have fueled a fair share of my work recently, and their longer videos are perfect for keeping me focused on the task at hand.
I'm writing this to give advice to anyone who is in a current state of writers block or is generally lacking in motivation. I found my musical motivator by chance, and it has helped me tremendously.
Keep your mind open to things that may help motivate you when the urge to write diminishes. Sometimes, they can appear without warning, and suddenly your half way into a fic that you had been stalling on for months, or years even.
Much love, y'all.
And write on.
-💛

I had a tarot reading with a beautiful reader/medium, and I was told under no uncertain terms that I MUST start writing again. That it will be therapeutic for me in both my mental and physical illnesses.
So... I guess I need to start thinking about what I'm going to write!!
