I think this episode is a great example of the importance of picking a present you know the receiver specifically will love - legos aren't inherently romantic or for most adults, and amber doesn't love them because that's not her thing, but janine thinks they're such a cute idea because that's what she'd want to get. Mo isn't wrong to buy her a bag, and because he doesn't know her he assumes she'll like it, because its a more obvious present for an adult woman (amber really loves it, and would liked to get something similar) but its not right for janine because she's not about status symbols or things that aren't purposeful or fun.

No one here is a villain, even! Just mo doesn't know janine like gregory does, Gregory's thought was sweet but he's obviously better matched with janine, and amber is an adult with children who wants to feel a bit special, not like a child with a toy. And that's good writing!
