Have you fallen for #falanghina? I have and I like the @campivalerio #falanghinadelmolise. It's intoxicating and affordable. The nose is complex with notes of yellow 🍎, 🍋, and 💐. The wine is dry with great minerality plus citrus and ripe fruit flavors. Just imagine yourself walking though and orange grove with stones dotting your path. A few drops of rain have landed on those warm stones and beautiful flowers are growing between them. What is your favorite #whitewine for Thanksgiving? This is the third day of my tips! 🥂 🥂 🥂 White wine is always a popular choice for guests and with regard to it, acidity is your biggest ally for a Thanksgiving meal. Tannin being hardly ever an issue with #whitewines, I recommend focusing on finding those wines with medium to high acidity. It will cut the fattiness of greasy dishes and sides while also holding up to vegetables that are otherwise hard to pair. I do highly recommend keeping your dry whites away from desserts and your dry reds for that matter.  🦃 The classic Thanksgiving whites are riesling, sauvignon blanc, and chardonnay. Riesling and sauvignon are crisp perfection in this delicious setting. Chardonnay though, in my opinion, needs a little explanation. You want to find those from a cooler climate, with less oak influence, and without a full body. This is because if they are too big or too oakey they just won't go well with nearly as many dishes and may come off tasting a bit flabby. No one likes that!   🥂 Do not underestimate these classic wines. They are tried and true and will easily carry you through your meal, however in good conscience I must ask you to consider some up and coming and perhaps less celebrated yet remarkably lovely and suitable whites. What wines will you put on your table for Thanksgiving? It's in four days so here's my second tip! 🍷 🍷 🍷 When selecting #redwines for Thanksgiving you want lower tannins. Tannins are what cause the drying, grippy sensation on your palate after you sip some wines and white wines rarely have any! That sensation which can be smooth, chunky, or even sandpapery has a high probabaly of interacting badly with many of the multitude of dishes present on the Thanksgiving table. 🍇 🍇 🍇 The classic reds for Thanksgiving are #pinotnoir and #gamay! They are typically lower in tannins and lighter in body. You may want to look to Burgundy and Beaujolais though you can find Pinot everywhere now and smatterings of Gamay outside of France now. Depending on the region of production these grapes can be earthy, fruity, or somewhere in-between. 🍷 However, we all have beloved guests that are stuck in there ways and there is always that one person who only likes bold California reds. To please that guest's palate look to a merlot or syrah that isn't too oakey. A ripe and fruity zin would also do the trick but it has to be lower in alcohol and zins can show up at a fiery 15% or more. 🍇 And I implore you not to forget, that there are many wonderful wines that would be sensational stars of a Thanksgiving meal, and some that are just starting to gain popularity. Chief among these in my opinion are quaffable and affordable bottlings of #valpolicellaclassico, #zweigelt, and #cotesdurhone. What wines should you put on your table for Thanksgiving? There are five days until Thanksgiving and I have five tips! Here's my first tip: 🍾 🍾 🍾 #sparklingwines are your best friend. These wines have wide pairing potential and can go well with a variety of dishes. And what is Thanksgiving known for if not a wide variety of dishes with many different flavors from sweet to savory. Why is this you might ask? Well, I think it's because #sparklingwine tends to have sparkling, bright acidity and bubbles which cleanse the palate while the lighter body and lack of tannin means there is less to go wrong when the wine interacts with food. Why the glum look on a gloomy day? Well, I'm going to need your support because I have a confession and an announcement to make. 💜 💜 💜 I didn't pass my #wsetlevel3 exam; not completely anyway. I passed the tasting portion but not the theory portion. 😭 And I admit the theory portion was hard to learn. I think I'm smart but I struggle with attention deficit disorder (among other things) and trying to memorize all of that made my brain hurt. 🤯 . . And yes, I am going to try again. I'm not giving up but also it's hard not to want to give up. It's been a hard year. This time last year, right after my first successes in the wine industry, I found myself out of work. . . It was hard not feeling like I was good enough at sharing my passion because honestly, for many years prior to finding it, I was fairly aimless. So yeah, I'm a little disappointed in myself however I'm hopeful too. I studied and tried hard and one day I'll be able to do it. . . I'm fortunate to have all of you! I feel like I've created something great here just by posting my sincere thoughts about wine. What do you know about Pinot Blanc? 🍇 Pinot noir is prone to mutation and at some point a white mutation occured. Pinot blanc is not the same as white pinot noir which is when you make white wine from red grapes. This is also called blanc de noir which is a most popular type of champagne. 🍇 With pinot blanc expect 🍐🍋🍑 flavors with stoney/mineral and sometimes doughy/leesy notes. Over the weekend I attended @undergroundwineevents second tasting event in DC. It was amazing. I even got to meet @winefornormalpeople. Photographic proof to come! 😋 🥂 Reader, if you ever have the opportunity to attend one of the events, I highly recommend that you do. The small, independant producers highlighted were all amazing and truly inspiring. Most were repping their own wines and poured tirelessly while answering an onslaught of questions from the likes of me. 🍷 The event was very well run. The organizers were making sure all of the producers got breaks if they wanted it. There was a food spread so no one got too drunk and it flowed very well.
