I'm imagining Shadow singing Dust and Ashes after Rouge talks some sense into him. As the song builds, so too do his emotions and his actions. He starts the song sitting, slumped over, wallowing in self hatred and regret.

Then as Rouge's words sink in, his eyes begin to widen, he lifts himself up, stands, begins pacing around, talking to himself (metatextually singing), and riles himself up, now motivated to find Sonic and make things right.

As he sings and reflects, he sees ghosts dancing in his periphery. Maria and Sonic, their echoes surround him and reach out to him, and they fade away the moment Shadow tries to reach back, to take their hands.

At the end, when Shadow repeats "I want to wake up!" he's running, emboldened and passionate, almost taking flight and soaring. He holds the last note, stopping at a ledge overlooking the skyline, silhouetted by sunset. His hand outstretched, desperately grasping at the person he thinks he's lost.

It's literally perfect. Josh Groban even sounds a bit like Shadow. Man, if I had the time I would LOVE to animate this. It's just too good.

I'm pretty happy with all of my picks, though I get being iffy about Knux. Definitely an out of the box pick. It was hard to find someone for him and I think that actor captures him in a unique way. He captures the sort of brash, easy-to-anger, singleminded but passionate energy that Knuckles has, and also sounding mildly exotic with the accent and with good comedic timing. I hope you see the vision

Every now and again I remember that Sonic Prime being confirmed as canon within the main games' timeline means that whatever the hell these two had going on during that show is also canon.

Because yes, you can play the "Sonic Prime resets by the end so none of the timeline was affected" card, but that doesn't change the teensy, itty bitty little fact that Sonic and Shadow remember everything.

If you're looking for a scene that best captures the complexity and nuance of Shadow the Hedgehog's character, look no further than this scene.

The reason why I love this scene is because he's not just saying these things to hurt Sonic, but more to express the hurt he feels in seeing Sonic take after him.

His facial expressions and the way he speaks (god bless you Keanu Reeves!)are not expressing pure hatred, saditisc revelry, or callous indifference. He's disgusted, dismayed, AND DARE I SAY HURT that Sonic would go down the path that he himself took, and that he would do so despite having so much to lose (i.e. the people he cares about)!

He's not saying "we're not so different you and I", he's saying "I'm disgusted that you would become just like me!"

It really drives home just how deeply the pain, loss, and trauma he experienced 50 years ago affects him, and not only that, he harbours a toxic hatred for himself because of the terrible mistakes that pain inspired him to make, and that he would do ANYTHING TO BE FREE OF IT. And now that hatred extends to Sonic for making the same terrible mistakes that he made!

Want to shout something into the void real quick.

I have a pretty huge Sonic movie fanfic in production right now. I am super happy with how it's shaping up. It will be a follow-up to the third movie. The two main focuses of the story will be to intensely scrutinize who Sonic is as a person and as a hero, and to follow Shadow's journey of picking up the pieces and moving forward.

I don't know how AO3 works, so I'm going to see if I can't set up the story and write the preview blurb and have that ready before the first chapter is ready for release. If I can, I'll post that here as well.

I don't want to spoil anything, or give away basically any of the plot, but I do want to confirm some elements that will or will not be present.

- Shadow will NOT have amnesia. Might be controversial but idc. I think that whole thing was really really dumb and I want no part of it.

- Sonamy will not play a role in this story. Neither Sonic nor Amy will be romantically interested in each other at any point in the story.

- Tails and Knuckles will have plenty time to shine, but will not be the main focuses of the story. Tails might get a little more screen time, just because I have something else cooking up for Knuckles that's pretty big ;3

- This story will be laying lots of groundwork for a proper Sonadow story in this universe. Sorry, I just can't help myself. If you don't like that, rest assured that actual tangible sonadow moments will be infrequent until much later on because of how the story is structured.

- I do not have a consistent chapter publishing schedule in mind. I'm a very busy person with a full time job and a LOT of other creative interests and hobbies. Plus I'm going to college in the fall, so- I'll try my best to keep up with it but I absolutely cannot make any promises.
