Self study - Learning is Endless

The purpose of studying is to learn something useful to the life & career. It is not at all necessary to go with the school or formal system of study.

Self-study is one of the most important things to do in order to qualify for an examination.  Numbers of hours does not count if you can study 2 hours with concentration and cover the study of 5 hours or a day. When you are studying by yourself you can actually take some time off and take break in order to go back with fresh mind.

Self study may either be studying through books, online journals, videos or watching tutorials to learn a particular topic. Self-study, when done correctly, is a very effective learning tool, so it can be helpful when used to prepare for a test or learn an entirely new subject matter on your own.

All you need to do is to plan, draft a schedule and stick it. Do not add which you cannot fulfill and frustrate at the end. Keep it straight forward and allot time to your subjects equally.

Personality Test Comparison: VIA Survey and Myers-Briggs (MBTI)

Most people these days seem to know their personality “type” according to the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). You know whether you prefer to be more extroverted or introverted, thinking or feeling, or judging or perceiving. The MBTI has been one of the most popular personality tests for decades. People who have taken the test love to guess one another’s type.

Another test that has emerged as the main research-based test of personality strengths in the world is the VIA Survey. The VIA Survey measures strengths of character and in a short period of time has had over 3.1 million takers reaching every country. The 24 character strengths measured have been found to be universal across countries, cultures, and beliefs. These include strengths such as fairness, social intelligence, kindness, curiosity, bravery, and humility. Like MBTI fanatics, people particularly love to spot character strengths in others. Here is some information that will help you understand some of the similarities and differences in the two personality tests:

Similarities

Both reveal results that are immediately understandable and user-friendly.

All people have unique preferences (MBTI) or strengths (VIA) which color their perceptions and underlie their values, interests, needs, and motivations.

Both address parts of our personality (although MBTI calls these “types”).

Both inform one’s self-knowledge.

Both are used widely with “normal” populations, and used extensively by general consumers and professionals

Results on either test are not “good or bad” or “right or wrong,” nor do they reveal problems or psychopathologies.

Both are translated into over 20 languages.

Both reveal results that are immediately understandable and user-friendly.

Differences

Measurement:

MBTI: measures preferences and how people perceive their world. VIA: measures character strengths, core positive capacities for thinking, feeling, and behaving in ways that benefit others and oneself.

What traits are valued?

MBTI: your personal type (you receive 4 letters which stand for your traits/preferences).

VIA: all 24 character strengths are valued, but the biggest values are your signature strengths – those  those highest in your profile and most essential to who you are.

VIA: Free.

There is a growing mismatch between the skills the fast-changing jobs market demands and those unemployed workers possess. McKinsey estimates that by 2020, 58 million low-skill workers will look for jobs while 44 million medium-skill positions will remain unfilled in South-Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa. One big reason is automation. Jobs that require repetitive procedures, like accounting, manufacturing and even low-end software programming, are declining. Interestingly, jobs requiring “non-routine” analytical and interpersonal skills are steadily on the rise (See Figure: extracted from “Skills for a changing world” - Brookings), according to MIT and World Bank researchers.

A flock of sandpipers hunt for food at a seashore, rushing to peck at the sand when the wave recedes and retreating when it comes in. One baby is encouraged by her mother to join the flock, but she fails to retreat in time and is drenched by the incoming surf. The incident leaves the baby terrified of the water; she refuses to leave the nest, but soon notices a group of hermit crabs digging into the sand to find deeper food and keep from being buffeted by the tide. Accept Change or Parish

આજથી ૧૫ - ૧૭ વર્ષ પેહલા લગભગ એવી કોઈ જ જગ્યા નોહતી જ્યાં PCO ના હોય.. પછી ધીમે ધીમે બધાના ઘરમાં લેન્ડલાઈનની સુવિધા થવા માંડી… ધીમે ધીમે PCO ઓછા થવા લાગ્યા… અને પછી વિશ્વ્માં જન્મ લીધો મોબાઇલે… લગભગ PCO બંધ…

હવે PCO વાળાએ મોબાઈલના રિચાર્જ અને બિલ ભરવાના કરી દીધા..અને હવે તો રિચાર્જ અને બિલ પણ ઓનલાઇન ભરાતા થઇ ગયા છે…

તમે ક્યારેય એ તરફ ધ્યાન વાળ્યું..?

આજે બજારમાં દરેક ચોથી-પાંચમી દુકાન મોબાઈલની છે. સેલ, સર્વિસ, રિચાર્જ, એસેસરીઝ, રીપેર તથા મોબાઈલને લગતી કોઈપણ હલી કરવી હોય…

હવે રૂપિયા-પૈસાનું લેણદેણ પણ બદલાઈ રહ્યું છે…. આજે લગભગ બધું “Paytm” થી થઇ ગયુ છે… હવે તો લોકો રેલવે, બસની ટિકિટ પણ મોબાઈલથી કરાવવા લાગ્યા છે…

રોકડ રૂપિયાની જગ્યા પેહલા પ્લાસ્ટિક કરન્સી (ડેબિટ/ ક્રેડિટ કાર્ડ) એ લીધી… અને હવે તો ડિજિટલ લેવડદેવડ થઇ ગયું છે…

દુનિયા ખુબ ઝડપથી બદલાઈ રહી છે… આંખ, કાન,નાક, મગજ ખુલ્લું રાખો નહીંતર તમે પાછળ રહી જશો…

૧૯૯૮માં “કોડાક” કંપનીમાં ૧,૭૦,૦૦૦ કર્મચારીઓ કામ કરતા હતા અને તેઓ દુનિયાના ૮૫% ફોટો પેપર વેંચતા હતા… થોડાજ વર્ષોમાં “ડિજિટલ ફોટોગ્રાફી” એ તેમને બજારમાંથી બહાર ફેંકી દીધા.. “કોડાક” દેવાળિયું થઇ ગયું… તેમના બધાજ કર્મચારીઓ રસ્તા પર આવી ગયા.. મુદ્દાની વાત એ છે કે..

તમને અંદાજો પણ છે કે આવતા ૧૦ વર્ષોમાં વિશ્વ સંપૂર્ણ પરિવર્તન પામશે… આજે ચાલનારા ૭૦ થી ૮૦% ઉદ્યોગો બંધ થઇ જશે…

“ચોથી ઔદ્યોગિક ક્રાંતિમાં તમારું સ્વાગત છે…”

“ઉબેર” ફક્ત એક સોફ્ટવેર છે. તેમની પોતાની એકપણ કાર નથી. તેમ છતાં તે દુનિયાની સૌથી મોટી ટેક્ષી કંપની છે.

Airbnb દુનિયાની સૌથી મોટી હોટેલ કંપની છે, જયારે તેમની ખુદની પાસે તો પોતાની એકપણ હોટેલ નથી…

અમેરિકામાં યુવા વકીલો માટે હવે કોઈ જ કામ નથી બચ્યું… કારણ કે IBM Watson નામનું એક સોફટવેર પાપંણના ઝબકારામાં વધારે સારી Legal Advise આપી દે છે… આવતા ૫ થી ૭ વર્ષમાં ૯૦% વકીલોને ઘરે બેસવાનો વારો આવશે…અને જે બાકી બચ્યા હશે તે ઉત્તમ પ્રકારના જે - તે બાબતના નિષ્ણાંત હશે…

Watson નામક આ સોફ્ટવેરે કેન્સરનું ડાયગ્નોસિસ મનુષ્યની ચોક્કસાઈ કરતા ૪ ઘણી વધુ ચોક્કસાઈએ કરે છે…

અંદાજે અંદાજે ૨૦૩૦ થી તે ૨૦૩૫ સુધીમાં કમ્પ્યુટર મનુષ્ય કરતા વધારે હોશિયાર થઇ ગયું હશે…

૨૦૧૮ પૂરું થાય તે પેહલા પેહલા ડ્રાઈવર વગરની કાર રસ્તા પર સેવા આપવા માટે આવિષ્કાર પામી ચુકી હશે… ૨૦૨૦ સુધીમાં આ એક જ આવિષ્કાર દુનિયા પલ્ટી નાંખવાની શરૂઆત કરાવી દેશે…. મેટ્રો ટ્રેઈનમાં ડ્રાઈવર નથી. ખ્યાલ છેને…

આવતા ૧૫-૧૭ વર્ષોમાં લગભગ કાર ગાયબ થતી અનુભવશો…. જે વધશે તે કાંતો Electric કાર હશે અથવાબતો હાયબ્રીડ……. રસ્તાઓ ખાલી જોવા મળશે… પેટ્રોલની નહિવત જરૂર પડશે…. આરબ દેશો મુશ્કેલીમાં મુકાવા લાગશે , આર્થિક તાણ અનુભવવા લાગશે…

તમે પોતે Uber જેવા એક સોફ્ટવેરેથી કાર મંગાવશો અને પળભરમાં એક ડ્રાઈવર વગરની કાર તમારી આસપાસસ આવી જશે…. અને એ સવારી જો તમે કોઈ અન્ય સાથે વહેચણીમાં લેશો તો તમને સવારી તમારા બાઇક કરતા પણ સસ્તી પડશે..

Driverless કાર હોવાના કારણે અકસિડેન્ટ્સ થવાના લગભગ બંધ જ થઇ જશે…. એટલે insurance અને વીમા કંપની પણ ઘર ભેગી..!

ડ્રાઈવર નામનો રોજગાર લુપ્ત થઇ જશે… જયારે શહેરો અને રસ્તો પર થી ૯૦% ગાડીઓ ગાયબ થઇ જશેતો ટ્રાફિક અને પાર્કિંગ નામની કંટાળાજનક સમસ્યાનો અંત આપોઆપ આવી જશે….

તો મારા વહાલા દેશવાશીઓ….. સમય અનુસાર upgrade થાતાં રહો…. નહી તો ભાઈઓ ક્યાય ખોવાઈ જશો… જ્ઞાતિવાદમાં ને અનામતની જાતિવાદમાં, આ રાજકીય દેશદ્રોહી નેતાઓના રવાડે ચડીને…. પ્લીઝ.. સમયની સાથે સમાજ ને ગામ, રાજ્ય, દેશને અપગ્રેડ કરો … Thank u… એજ લિ. આપણો રાષ્ટ્રભકત રાષ્ટ્રપ્રેમી..

Thoughts and Request for Advice

Hello lovely teacher community!

I just attended my first job fair and what can I say but WOW. It’s overwhelming to see so many schools trying to get teachers while at the same time wondering if you could get in. It was all a bit much, but we’re moving forward.

What are things you wished someone had told you about sooner? Things you knew before you applied for/accepted your first job? What are red flags and when should it be an enthusiastic yes? Any advice is welcome and appreciated!
