Lord Byron In Albanian Dress
Artist: Thomas Phillips (British, 1770–1845)
Date: 1813
Medium: Oil on Canvas
Collection: Government Art Collection, London, England
George Gordon Byron (1788–1824), 6th Baron Byron, Poet
This portrait of Lord Byron by Thomas Phillips depicts the renowned poet and society figure dressed in traditional Albanian costume. He wears an oriental-style, red velvet jacket and headdress, with a velvet cloak draped across his left arm. Byron bought the costume in the region of Epirus (part of modern Greece and Albania) in 1809, while on a Grand Tour across southern Europe with his great friend, the politician John Cam Hobhouse (1786–1869). Byron sat for this painting in 1813, at the age of 25, and evidently had some influence over its appearance. He was particularly sensitive to full-length representations of himself as he had suffered from a lame foot since childhood and had a noticeable limp. He also asked Phillips to repaint his nose in a more flattering fashion.
In the portrait, the translucent paleness of his skin contrasts with the dark velvet of his costume, inspiring Sir Walter Scott to liken the portrait to a beautiful alabaster lamp, lit from within. The portrait was exhibited to great acclaim at the Royal Academy in 1814. It was later bought by Lady Judith Noel, Byron’s mother-in-law, and hung at Kirkby Hall, her residence in Kirkby Mallory, Leicestershire.

Psyche Entering Cupid's Garden
Artist: John William Waterhouse (English, 1849–1917) academic
Date: 1903
Medium: Oil on canvas
Collection: Harris Museum and Art Gallery, Preston, England
Description
Cupid was sent by his jealous mother, the goddess Venus, to punish Psyche for her beauty. Instead, Cupid fell in love with Psyche but would only meet her after dark so she couldn’t identify him. Here, Psyche is trying to catch a glimpse of her secret lover in daylight. Sometimes called ‘the last Pre-Raphaelite’, Waterhouse used his lush, romantic style to paint many scenes from Greek and Roman mythology.

Rewatched Kant & Bison's hotel scene (shut up) and I think my interepretation of the condom inclusion/discussion is a bit different than the ones I found on here. I feel like it's maybe the one moment they're not having their little tug-of-war.
Bison asks and Kant provides, so far so good, but even that can be interpreted in two ways: on the one hand Kant is following Bison's lead and giving him what he wants; on the other "I provide" can often be used as shorthand for "I'm in charge" in these kinds of song and dance (Kant is. notably smug as he fishes the condom out). In truth they both want the condom, and someone had to mention it first while someone had to have one, but the fact that the writers chose to split those roles highlights everyone as an active participant.
"You're not doing this solo you know?" drives the point home. I don't think this line is about who's in charge, I think it's exactly what it says on the tin: they're in it together! They both get a say as to where things go, and they will both put their back into it. Sex is often conceptualized as one person doing something to another, but this scene explicitely states that - for these two at least - it takes two to tango. i have to note, however, that Kant fully goes with the flow, and looks absolutely delighted to get under Bison. just putting it out there for personal reasons.
Lastly they both unzip each other's pants (again, reciprocity) and then Bison is the one to open the packet while Kant will be the one wearing the condom. They have the same goal (getting laid) and are working together to reach it, as partners. To me they're on equal footing, here, and I feel like the scene achieves that feeling far less clumsily than the currently en vogue "what if they were both vers". And I think it will make eventual talks of power exchange all the sweeter.

Not so gentle reminder, there is no place for radical far-right extremists in this blog. If you are a fascist or hindutva-badi please fuck off from this blog. I'm utterly disgusted with you and want to do nothing with your bullshit. DNI if you lack basic critical thinking, historical consciousness, decency or humanity.

Horace Vernet (1789-1863) Depicted in 1863 in Academician's Uniform
Artist: Alexis Witkofsky
Emile Jean Horace Vernet (French painter, 1789-1863)
Vernet was born to Carle Vernet, another famous painter, who was himself a son of Claude Joseph Vernet. He was born in the Paris Louvre, while his parents were staying there during the French Revolution. Vernet quickly developed a disdain for the high-minded seriousness of academic French art work which was distinguished by art influenced by Classicism, and decided to paint subjects taken mostly from contemporary life.

Note about the latest comic, I changed the values of the average combined diameter of the planets (changed accordingly, as per WolframAlpha's computation (2023)). I also added more sources regarding the distance of the moon; the apogee and the perigee.
I thought this was a necessary post since I want to stay as accurate as possible, despite this being a work of fiction with artistic liberties. I provide links in the posts of my comics for readers to assess for themselves as well.
Thank you for understanding! And remember, there's always a footnote for sources regarding most of the comics, often from NASA.
