I've been thinking long and hard about my decision, as I've received some very kind words from several people here.
So I decided that while I'll still move to a new blog, I won't delete this one. I'm not going to post here anymore (lowkey pretending it doesn't exist), but I will check my messages on here and respond to those. I won't do anything beyond that though.

fr shout out to the manhua for having that scene where people are like “ohhhh we have no spiritual power and are stuck in this cave with the evil, cruel yiling laozu. how could we possibly be safe?” and it cuts to said yiling laozu just sitting there like

probably gonna get shot on site for this but oh well
it is okay if you don't know literally every single detail about canon. It's okay!!! Its okay if you haven't seen every movie. It's okay if you never read the books. Its okay if you haven't seen every episode. Its okay if you haven't read every comic. Its okay if most of the stuff you know came from reading fanfic. Its okay if you have literally never touched the source material. Its okay if all you do is interact with tumblr posts or fanart. Its okay if you decide to make up your own version of events even if they contradict canon completely.
Fandom spaces do not exist to be policed. Fandom spaces do not exist to be gatekept. If you don't know each and every detail then its okay because fanspaces exist for you to fill in the cracks with whatever it is you like. You can literally headcanon whatever, no one can stop you. you have my permission to go crazy

Jiang Cheng 💜⚡️Drawing Time: About 56 hours 💜💜
I kind of finished this a few days ago but held off on posting because I wanted to take a small break from looking at it and judge it better with rested eyes. Ended up refining some details after but now I think I can finally call this piece finished. 💜
It is by far the longest I've ever spent on a portrait painting. And the extensive amount of details I added nearly burnt me out on several ocassions. I had to take so many breaks away from it. 😅 I wanted it to look as detailed and polished as I can manage.
I think... Looking at it now, this is probably the closest I've gotten to hyperrealism. Although I don't think I'm quite there yet.. Idk, what do y'all think?
I have 49 hours in total of recorded video progress for it and will spend some time editing the Timelapse together soon. 💜
-Please do not repost, edit, crop, use or sell my artworks. If you'd like to support me, please consider reblogging my original posts instead 💜 Thank you so much ✨💜✨

Let's talk about a random design principle because I'm bored. I'm going to borrow lwj's handsome face to do so, and for this one we're going to ask a question that may seem a bit odd:
"Why is lwj on the left side of the frame, and not on the right?"
Tumblr media
Well, that could be because of a visual thing I like to call "balancing on the cliff's edge". This is tied to the direction we move our eyes when we read; from left to right. In other languages (like japanese), this direction may be the opposite (right to left), and that will in turn flip which sides gain what effect. How the placement affect our impression is, as usual, subjective. The "effects" I'll mention won't necessarily be felt by everybody.
To those of us who're used to reading left to right, the left part of the picture is like a "starting point", while the right side is like an "ending point". Because of this, elements placed at the left side of the picture can feel more static than those placed to the right. Here, the natural direction for our eyes to go is away from lwj's face, following the wind that blows his hair and ribbon. Compare this to lwj being placed on the right side:
Tumblr media
It's subtle, but there. In this case we'll naturally follow his hair before we land on him. We move our gaze towards him instead of away from him. It gives a slightly more dynamic feel, due to lwj sort of "moving with our gaze".
The right side of the picture is an "ending point", but there's a potential space that falls beyond it, one that our eyes (and lwj) can move into. This can give an additional dynamic effect, since an illusion of motion lies in the movement towards the edge and its potential to continue beyond it. Sometimes (but not always) a picture can feel unbalanced if too much visual "weight" is distributed to the right. This is where the "cliff's edge" metaphor comes in. Since there's potential space beyond the right side, weighty elements placed there can give a feeling of "tipping off the edge", aka "balancing on the edge of a cliff". (This is not an exclusively negative thing, and having visual weight to the right won't always make it feel unbalanced. It all depends on how it's done. The shot where lwj's name appears on screen is an example of using this natural motion well.)
Since we don't naturally move our eyes "beyond the edge" on the left side, putting visual weight there usually won't have the same effect. The potential space it can move into is in the picture itself. We move our eyes away from it, and as we do so the element stays in the same place as before. Hence the feeling of stability.
And doesn't this fit lwj very well? In this scene he's introduced as a contrast to what was before; the music goes from fast-paced and dramatic to calm and serene, the movement from chaotic to still. Steady as a mountain, unwavering in his affections and beliefs. Even a detail as seemingly insignificant as this plays a part in the bigger picture.

my ranking of domestic disaster to househusband
okay in the danmei stories I know so far, the ranking goes:
12. Zhou Zishu: Has never been seen to lift one finger towards a household chore or practical skill. When left alone WILL drink himself to death on the side of the road
11. Xie Lian: Eats moldy shit out of dumpsters. Has been known to make semi-edible food when the occasion calls for it, but then the skill seems to magically leave him? maybe it was only semi edible bc he was feeding it to starving orphans who had no other options? Can't do housing repairs.
10. Shen Qingqui: I don't want to know the state of his bachelor pad pre-canon. Also barely lifts a finger in regards to practical household skills, but he has managed to live a few years on his own at various points, to varying degrees of success.
9. Mobei-jun: Needs constant supervision. Can cook noodles poorly when necessary. I could not imagine him doing anything else domestic for the life of me.
8. Shang Qinghua: Can manage other people's messes, cannot manage his own life. Has been known to beg for food. Has been known to write 20k words a day without sleeping or eating. Also lived alone to varying degrees of success, but not healthily.
7. Wei Wuxian: Has grand delusions about being a house husband....not suited for the task. Can grow radishes at least. A child did not die under his (albeit supervised) care.
6. Chu Wanning: Somehow lived alone for several decades without dying or growing mold spores in his clothing. Can cook 1 (one) recipe. Does have an organizational system, albeit one no one else can understand. Gets sick often, probably due in part to lack of ventilation and poor laundry hygiene.
5. Wen Kexing: Can cook, can supervise others cleaning, mildly alcoholic but trying his best.
4. Lan Wangji: Can cook, can take care of children and pets with varying degrees of success, Lan arm strength probably makes him unsuited for doing laundry, but probably good at home repair.
3. Hua Cheng: not enough data, but probably a good househusband. Ive been told this ranking is accurate. Can at least chop up veggies and do basic home maintenance (rip xie lian)
2. Mo Ran: basically a master chef, is a pro at cleaning up after chu wanning, has been known to weep over bad hygiene, wants that domestic life like nobodies business.
1. Luo Binghe: Househusband supreme. Beyond just doing the cooking, the cleaning, etc, gives me the vibes of someone with tasteful interior design skills. Look at him go. Good for sqq.

I fucking love context clue worldbuilding, that talks as if the reader knows what you're talking about, and to keep up they'll just have to nod along like "okay, alright, so this is a thing", where like you descirbe shit like
"The globe was as large as an egg" - okay so they're usually smaller than an egg? or if you'd have said "as small as an egg", it's still the same fucking size but now we know they're usually larger than an egg?
"She owned both of the two tallest hats in the county", okay so this is a place where the height of a woman's hat is something people generally care about? Looking at the way this character otherwise behaves, this is clearly a flex.
"His scowl was as frightening and beautiful as those of gilded temple dragons" okay so there are temples in this setting, and they have scary-looking gilded dragons in them, and also the narrator finds red flags sexy.

my favorite thing about navigating fanfiction is finding a really good one and being all “oh boy this was good, I hope they have more!” and literally every other story they’ve ever written was for like Miami Vice
