Ever said “very good” and your voice assistant heard “wary wood”? We’ve been there. A lot.

At WizMantra, we teach people to speak fluent English and Hindi using real-time AI feedback. But before we could improve our tools, we needed to answer a big question:

Can AI really understand Indian English — or is it just pretending?

So we tested it. With real learner audio. And the results were... surprisingly weird and wonderful.

🧪 What We Did

We analyzed over 1,000 audio clips from WizMantra learners using two top AI tools:

🧠 OpenAI’s Whisper

🎧 Google Speech-to-Text

Then we compared what people actually said vs. what the AI thought they said. Here’s a sample:

🗣️ Spoken: “He is an engineer.” 🤖 Whisper: “He is an injury.” 😳 Google: “He has energy.” 😅 (Not quite, bots.)

❗ The Most Common Errors AI Struggled With

v/w confusion → “very” vs. “wery”

Missing articles → “He is engineer” (instead of “an engineer”)

Tense issues → “I going” instead of “I am going”

We turned those findings into visual reports and better feedback for our learners.

💡 What Surprised Us

Whisper was shockingly good with Indian-English — like, 92% accuracy good.

Google worked better in noisy places.

Most errors came from confidence, not lack of vocabulary.

The real insight? People think they said it right. The AI disagrees. That’s where we help.
