Hey! Guess what? It's Monday! And you know what that means? - First Glee Meeting! So today's meeting went so well and once again I'm so glad to have you all. Now while nine is a good number we still need at least 12 members to qualify for sectionals, which is being held here at McKinley in early November. That's just a couple months away. Considering how desperate we are, I managed to score the glee club their first performance! That's right, this Friday, September 19th, the glee club will have a presentation in the gym where we will perform in front of the entire school and hopefully catch some interest.
With that being said, our first week will be centered on preparing a spectacular group number to really wow perspective members. So on top of individual performances this week, you guys'll also be preparing for our first real group number! But, hey - what's a glee week without its theme? Which now brings me to your very first glee assignment of the year...
If you've heard about the New Directions, then you know about our many tributes. From Madonna, to Britney, to Whitney to MJ - Glee has covered several notable artists' and their catalogues in our infamous tribute weeks. The artists chosen are always singers the general public likes and with timeless hits we can always relate to. For each generation, though, there's one star that really defines the music industry's listeners, and adds to the millions of music icons that will be remembered beyond their last breath.
Our first tribute week is in honor of an artist who has taken the music industry by storm. Making her debut in 2006 with a self-titled album, she started her incredible career as a country star but has since had a change of scene, going from crooning songs about "Tim McGraw" and pick-up driving exes to singing with "Style" and searching for someone to fill her "Blank Space". She's written songs for movies like Hunger Games, and starred in a couple like The Lorax. Yes, she's got a long list of ex-lovers, having some of the most high profile romances - and they would all tell you she's insane. But to the rest of us, this record-setting pop singer is America's Sweetheart. Whether you openly love her or consider her a guilty pleasure, it's most likely you've cried out the lyrics of her heartbreaking tunes like "Tear Drops On My Guitar" and "I Knew You Were Trouble" after being kicked to the curb. not saying I know that from experience or anything...
That's right, glee club - It's a Taylor Swift tribute week!
So here's what's up - this week you're to prepare a performance of a song from Swift's discography (don't worry, Wikipedia has got ya covered if you don't really know her music) and perform it in front of the club. You're welcome to pair off or group up if you want or go solo but everyone's gotta participate, kay? All songs save "Shake It Off" are up for grabs. Between your performances, we will also be practicing "Shake It Off" to perform for the school. And since you guys were all amazing in your auditions, everyone will have a solo in the song. To go with your assignment, the following journal questions have to be answered in your glee journal book thingy:
Why did you pick the song you sang? What inspired the choice?
Why do you think Taylor Swift's songs are so relatable to the general public? Do you feel like you relate to her music?
Now that you've seen your fellow glee clubbers perform, which ones would you like to perform with? Whose talent do you admire the most?
Alrighty, guys, that's your assignment for the week! Get pumped, and be ready to not just bring - sing it! And get ready to wow the school this Friday. Can't wait to see all your performances!

Would you consider adding Joe or Harmony or Sugar to this group? And what about Clint (Max George)?
The previous post should answer this question for you, anon. :)

Is Clint included in this group?
Hey anon. We do not have Clint listed as a role in the group but after a lot of deliberation on the topic, my co-mod and I have decided we are willing to take any Clint applications if there is interest. Just make sure the para in your application is IC to give us an idea as to how you would portray him and offer depth to the role. Similarly, we've decided to open the roleplay to applications for the roles of Harmony, Sugar Motta and Joe Hart as well. The only things to consider is Harmony, Joe and Sugar's appearances in season 3 are void and they, as well as Clint, will all be new to McKinley and the glee club. You're welcome to choose your own surnames for them but we will have Clint and Harmony listed as Clint Rogers and Harmony Sinclair from now on. So if you want to join the roleplay as roles other than our open ones (Roderick, Jane and Unique) there are now four other options.

The Big Ass 'Welcome to Glee' Post
Let's give a shout out to the official first members of The New Directions for the school year of 2014!
Marley Rose
Jake Puckerman
Kitty Wilde
Ryder Lynn
Hunter Clarington
Madison McCarthy
Mason McCarthy
Bree Morgan
Spencer Porter
That's nine members! Which means we're only like three away from qualifying for Sectionals. If you guys know anyone who'd make a good addition to our club, let em know glee's always looking for new members!
Okay, that aside, here's your official glee club syllabus - here to let you know how the club works and what is expected of you guys in the club. Glee Club takes place every Monday, Wednesday and Friday unless school isn't in session. Each week is dedicated to practicing and preparing for competitions and any other performances glee will be taking part in. Each week a new theme, or "assignment", will be released and the group will be required to take part in it.
Assignments come in three parts of which members are required to completely. First, and most simple, each member is required to choose one song that goes with the assignment and to let the instructor know their choice. Following the choice they're to answer a short questionnaire of two or three questions meant to reflect upon your song choice and the theme. The final part for assignments is to perform it! (Aka the optional writing prompt for those of you using your assignments for character development purposes!)
Assignments are due by Thursday at the latest and will be performed at Wednesday and Friday's practices. Along with that, Friday practices are designated group number rehearsals where the team will practice performing as a group for competitions. Each theme will come with a group number to be rehearsed the Friday of the theme week and your performances during these weeks will determine whether or not you get a solo in these group numbers so bring your A-Game each practice to get a chance to really shine!
Sometimes our assignments will include duets or larger group numbers, assigned partners, or even competitions. In that case, extra instruction will be included on how to complete these assignments when they're announced. Competition winners will get a prize, of course, and it'll be awesome, I promise!
On occasion the glee club is employed to perform for events including weddings, school dances/functions, local events like fairs and holiday parties, as well as having our own parties to keep up the group's morale! During some of these special occasions the glee club may have to perform. Just consider this another practice for our upcoming competitions. Which, speaking of - McKinley will be hosting Sectionals this year! So we'll look forward to winning our first real competition here in our own auditorium!
My office is always open to anyone who needs to talk more or would like some extra info on glee! Come Monday you'll all get your extensive event calendar and first glee club assignment. For now, get to know your fellow glee clubbers and try your hand at this sample assignment:
Auditions - The Road to Joining Glee!
Tell is about your unique glee story! Did you take the plunge and sign up the second you saw the sign ups board? Or maybe you were recruited by the instructor yourself? (Locker Shower Singer anyone?) tell us the story of your joining glee club and answer the following questions:
How did you come to make your decision to join glee club?
What do you most look forward to in regards to the club?
What song would you most wanna perform during your time as a New Directions member?
note: your journal answers will not be public information unless you'd like them to be. this is just for your 'glee club journal', to help heighten the glee experience! you're welcome to write out your audition/recruitment experience too! glee is here as a device to heighten group participation/interaction and character development so have fun with it!
If you have any questions don't be afraid to ask! Hope you guys are so super psyched about glee now!

Dear Kinda Rude and Cocky Dude lovin' Dude, Way to blow the roof off this joint (figurative. no blowing happened. this is like the figurative "the roof was blown away and now we are ceiling-less" blowing - anyway -) and blow (figurative) our minds away with your audition! Point is - you're in, dude. Welcome to glee club, Eryn Spencer Porter! Reminder to stop by my office first thing Monday to get your glee schedule for the year and to hit up the choir room after school that same day for your first official glee meeting of the year! Get psyched and get pumped, this year's gonna be awesome. - You’re super rad new glee club director, Finn Hudson
OOC Information
Name: Eryn! Age: 21, as of a week ago. Timezone: Australian EST Activity level: 7-8ish? I’m on basically every day but sometimes uni/parties/concerts/lack of muse/sleep gets in the way.
In Character Information
Character: Everyone’s favourite post-modern gay teen, Spencer Porter Ships: I’d love to give Spencer/Mason a go but I’m Spencer/Chemistry for the most part :) Anti Ships: Spencer/girls I guess? Idk
In Character Questions
What have you heard about Glee Club? Would you ever join? God no, I’d never join that suck-fest. All I know about them is they sing crappy songs all over campus and expect people to be okay with it. It’s annoying. They’re annoying.
Are you in any McKinley High sports teams, clubs, or extra curricular’s? I’m the Titan’s current killer receiver, and future starting quarterback. I know it’s a coveted spot but I think I’ve got the goods if Coach will just give me a shot to prove it. I’ve gotta keep trying til she does, so I don’t have time for other clubs.
What are you dreams/goals/aspirations after graduation? I don’t know – the usual college football dreams, I guess. I’m only a sophomore, I’ve got time to figure it out. All I know for sure is that Lima is the last place I want to be stuck for the rest of my life.
