Arambol
Hi! I'm here in arambol, goa, the place where all the hippies landed and return each winter. It's nice here, beautiful beaches with soft sand and warm water, nice climbs with great views of the Arabian, drum circles, fire spinning, beads, henna, and dreadlocks galore. Found a good room for a good price but this morning I figured out why so cheap at 3 am when the roosters started in. Apparently I'm sleeping in the middle of a farmyard. Goa is certainly a contrast to what I've been seeing on the Konkani coast for the past 10 days. While cycling the 600km from Mumbai I can count the westerners I met and saw on one hand, which was a trying but wonderful experience of immersion. Conversely, Arambol is a place for foreign tourists, who outnumber the Indians here five-fold. Don't get me wrong, it's a lot of fun and has a very nice vibe here, but I think this is as good as it gets in Goa, and so I'll be heading inland to Hampi on the 1st. Should take about 5 days of cycling to get there, but the terrain is plateau which should be far more forgiving to the mountains on the Konkani coast. Heard there's a blizzard slamming Boston at the moment... Stay warm, and shovel on!
