Our Dedans 🤝 placing unrealistic expectations on the Elsen leading to so many (preventable) problems

I feel like my Dedan used to be really good with kids, and actually liked them, but he'd probably be a nightmare around them now since he's really only had the Elsen for company and forget to rein himself in most times. It's been so long he's just completely forgotten how to act around kids anymore, and it would be an equally long journey to get back to that point. At least with Hugo he'd just be terribly awkward and quick to excuse himself since he absolutely knows better than to act out around the Queen's son. Imagine this 8 foot or so tall terror just about fleeing from a young child, I think it would be funny

Honestly I love leaning into the idea that reality really did just become that broken and now exists in a Groundhog Day-esque loop due to some kind of catastrophic event. :3c Maybe it can be fixed. Eventually. who knows!

as is tradition with everything I touch, I give whatever poor blorbos I attach myself to the Worst Problems Ever:

the Batter is absolutely broken by the time he's handed off to moff. At first he hates them but he can no longer resist a Puppeteer's will. he's tired. bending a knee is easier. maybe it's better that way.

Zacharie desperately clings to his rationalization of this world's reality. He holds on for Sugar's sake, because who else will remember what they all lose each time? What they have all lost?

and Dedan is so angry at everything BECAUSE he cares. he cares a whole goddamn lot but it's Too Much and has been for far too long that he can only respond with white-hot rage at everything now

EHEHEHEE he's not too wrinkly by the time the game's setting rolls around because he's filled it out with so much muscle. But once I get everyone else done though, I have an idea to draw pre-Guardian Dedan as this pasty, wrinkly, twiggy mole dork. It's gonna be an absolutely silly comparison lmao

Dedan, Guardian of Zone 1 and Metal

The Zone of Alma oversees all raw material procurement in the Queen's lands, whether that's mining, agriculture, or recovery, which is then sent to Vesper for processing. Its wrathful Guardian, Dedan, has ruled it with an iron fist since its inception. While the suns of untold years has baked his skin just the same as a human, he doesn't appear to be one like the Elsen he keeps under his boot. He's as overworked as they are, his teeth and nails overgrown due to neglect because of time, time, time. There's just not enough damn TIME for everything he needs to do so he cuts out what he considers the least important events in his schedule, putting himself last to serve the Queen first. Rumors once abounded about how Dedan had a sunnier disposition, bringing hopes his sour mood might wane someday, but now they're just the stuff of barely-uttered legends on woefully short breaks.

I kinda feel like I Disneyfied him but you know how many naked molerat anthros I've seen in general. zero. fite me ignore the fact that I haven't actively looked for them shhh

yoinked his palette from one of the bits of art Mortis Ghost drew that depicted the Guardians in color because it makes him look kinda rusty

Anyway some little trivia nibbles:

heavy smoker. not like he can get cancer, so

he used to be just as pale as the Batter is and and now he's the posterchild for a lifetime in a tanning booth

has no front teeth for his "inner" mouth, because they make up the large chompers outside of it toothless grandpa Dedan lul

he can open his mouth very, very, TERRIFYINGLY wide if he needs to and has a biteforce like nothing else in the Zones

his body being metal and kind of rough means you can strike a match off him. he'll instantly put you in the ground for it tho

for the same reason he's like a living magnesium firestarter and can start fires off of himself with friction such as by rubbing his fingers

theoretically could be scruffed like a naked molerat can be, but because he's absolutely shredded all the muscle mostly prevents that. in the past Enoch has settled for grabbing him by the collar of his coat instead (Dedan has always hated this)

dislikes the sun/light and his eyesight suffers quite a bit during the day, and generally hates being above ground to begin with, so he def likes the mines the most

an old rumor says he wrestled with a rampaging Moloch bull once until it settled down, but nobody can agree if it took a few hours or a few days for him to calm it that way. discussing these old legends about their boss is one of the ways Elsen trapped in the mines will pass the time while hopefully awaiting rescue, and sometimes the debates can get heated (for them, anyway)

#ohh#your takes are very interesting I like them ^-^#the first two are a bit similar to what I have going on in my own au#I think your interpretation of Dedan is fascinating though#since it’s very different from mine where Dedan has just always been a dick to everyone#now he has gotten worse as my au’s world fell apart and is just entirely stuck in his own head at this point#anyway yeah sorry for rambling about my own AU I just thought it was interesting to compare 😅

My reasoning for Dedan is his actions in The Room. At least at one point in his life he didn't seem like he was the awful, abusive person we see in the game, but something definitely changed for the worst. I wanted to roll with the idea of Dedan being just as stressed out and overworked as the Elsen under his charge, and eventually snapping under the pressure. Even the strongest metal has a breaking point, after all. :3c

since Dedan is described with "a body of steel" I had a cool idea to give the other Guardians aspects of an element (iirc none of them have official elements but I'm also still going through a new playthrough for the first time in uhhh. over 10 years. lol. lmao)

we all know cats are in fact a liquid, so the Judge gets to be the element Plastic uwu

Dedan is Metal (ya don't say), Japhet is Smoke (a firebird on the verge of combusting!), Enoch is Sugar (through his own doing), and Hugo is Meat (ofc)

yes this is my OFF player being represented by a moth because I think I'm hilarious

and now I get to draw the Batter being harassed/led around by this incredibly rotund creature the size of a bird

and this creature gets to make Bad Decisions uwu

their color is orange like the main logo, so if you slam them up against a surface hard enough they leave a cheeto dust imprint like owls do when they hit a window

(but please don't, they are incredibly fragile <3 )
