Hello, I just found your blog through your picrew. Just a little question about your bug people. Are the bug people the size of actual actual bugs or all the all the same height?

Miinu are about the same size as each other ranging form 4-6 cm though some species can be smaller like flies, and others can be bigger like Hercules beetles.

Ironically enough the other day I made this little graph showing how big Miinu are compared to other objects for a little perspective.

Miinu are pretty tiny. The best rule of thumb is the literal rule of thumb, as in miinu are roughly the size of your thumb and you can use that to scale them to objects.

Also, if anyone has given my spidersona fic a read, I actually made the varient of miinu in that significantly larger as seen here.

Another Miinu lore dump, this time involving breeding! Not like that yet.

First a diagram of how Miinu eggs develop. They incubate for around the same time a human baby gestates. The egg is semi-translucent allowing the parent to see the baby develop in real time. The eggs are fragile and need to be tended to to keep them warm, moist, and free of parasites and predators.

NEXT IS GENETICS

Miinu of different bug kins can reproduce with each other just as easily as same species, though the results differ. The closer in species the two miinu are, the more likely some hybrid traits will occur, but for miinu who are vastly different species, the offspring will usually match the species of just one parent. Other things such as facial features, body type, hair texture and markings are often unique to the individual and will be added into the gene pool regardless of species.

Mutations like the one at the bottom right are extremely rare, as not only does there need to be an error in the gene that determines species, but often these babies aren't viable. Mixing certain bug kin features that are incompatible can often lead to health issues not just in development, but also down the road. Many do not hatch, many more do not survive metamorphosis. Those who do will often be infertile and have health complications for their whole lives.

Bugs in a bug circus? It's more likely than you'd think. More info under the cut.

So fun fact, Lampry was actually raised by a traveling miinu circus, and I finally got around to designing some of the troupe.

Peaberry is a transfem Peacock Spider who runs the show. She's boisterous and can dazzle a crowd, but she also runs a tight ship and can be a stickler for perfection, making sure everyone knows their routines so every show runs smoothly.

Picasso is a laid back clown who is nurturing and caring to the other members of the troupe. She's always trying to put a smile on people's face, while also making sure they are drinking enough water and taking breaks.

Singh is the oldest of the troupe and has a way with animals, and practically has a sixth sense with them. Don't ask him if he samples from them.

Ela and Eli are a brother and sister pair of acrobatic click beetles, always trying to show off and out compete each other.

No one can stop my hand from turning bugs into handsome little men. Here I've got a Clymene Moth priest, which I'm sure has been done before but I don't care. He's here to bring religious trauma to the miinu. He's probably going to end up being a villain.
