Unfortunately the Critically Acclaimed FFXIV took more out of me this weekend then I expected (alongside a migraine) so I will be working on getting the winners picked as soon as possible!

How’s everyone loving Dawntrail so far?

Heyo everyone!! I want to thank you all again for participating in this year’s Wondrous Tails of FFXIV event, especially because I personally wasn’t able to take part in much due to fandom shenanigans and scheduling stuff.

I appreciate and adore everything that was created from the event, and I am at work in getting everyone’s entries validated and put into the raffle to pull — I’m a little late, but you should be seeing an update and a set of winners messaged/pinged by the end of next weekend! Keep your eyes peeled if you had entered your bingo sheet for the raffle, because you might have 25 dollars headed your way (a perfect time to nab that mount or emote you’ve been eyeing on FFXIV just in time for the expansion!)

But again, thank you all for your hard work and creativity. It’s hard to put ideas down and harder still to explore new ideas and battle with a constant sense of self-doubt, but I saw nothing but wondrous works of creativity and love (and occasional chaos) and I wish everyone a very happy expac drop when Dawntrail is released! :D

Just as a reminder, the event ends at 11:59pm Central Standard Time on June 15th (aka tomorrow night)!

You are able to submit your finalized bingo card link after that time, but the entries themselves must be posted before the cutoff time to count towards the raffle! :D

There is a re-occurring quest of sorts in Final Fantasy XIV called ‘Wondrous Tails’, and it is given to you in Idyllshire by a young Miqo’te named Khloe Aliapoh. Specifically, she gives you an empty journal and asks you to write down the stories of your past and future adventures so that she can share them with everyone she meets!

By re-completing past content, you can earn stickers in order to make lines across a card in a style similar to bingo, with each finished line netting all sorts of prizes once the journal is turned in. In much the same way, ‘Wondrous Tails of FFXIV’ is a multi-month event that utilizes a prompt-filled bingo card format in order to encourage participants to tell the stories in an environment with minimal restrictions and maximum possibilities.

This event is open to both visual and written media, and anyone that participates with at least one valid entry is entered for a raffle that takes place after the end of the event. However, participants do not need to worry about raffle entries or its few restrictions if all they'd like to do is take part and have fun!

Okay first of all: Nice™

Second of all: the Wondrous Tails event for 2024 will be getting an extension into June 15th! A *lot* of people commented, tagged or otherwise let me know that it would be extremely beneficial, and there's a lot of people who haven't had a chance to get to create a lot due to work, life, or other things going on -- so hopefully this will help take some stress off of things for everyone!

Thank you to everyone who offered feedback, especially since unfortunately the timing this year has meant that I've not been able to be very active myself, but I am so proud and overjoyed at all the wonderful creations I'm seeing everyone make! :D

So TLDR: the event is being extended, and will now end on 11:59pm on Saturday,June 15th!

After we allocate prompts to our WT bingo slots, how to we go about choosing which slots to fill to create bingo lines? I feel like if we get to pick ourselves, that removes the "random" aspect of WT, because we can easily set up a bingo by choosing our prompts? :O Or does the amount of bingos not matter for the raffle? Please let me know if you need me to reword the question, not quite sure how to phrase it

No worries, I think I'm understanding it correctly! And basically yeah, you're allowed to put your prompts wherever you'd like!

While it does take away some aspect of 'randomness', I've not found a method that allows people to pick their own prompts and for myself to moderate to ensure that the bingo card is 'random' that doesn't sacrifice some of the creative freedom that this event is supposed to foster!

The number of 'bingos' only add a bonus entry into the raffle; a full card has a total of 24 prompts (not including the free space) which would be 24 entries into the raffle. Completing a line is one bonus entry, so in total a fully-completed bingo sheet would be 36 entries into the raffle!

I am fully aware that this means people will load the deck (or bingo sheet, rather) in their own favor, and that is honestly not a bad thing! I want people to feel encouraged and excited to create things, so if that means letting people give themselves a little push because they can't complete a full sheet but want to hit a bingo or two, then that's perfectly allowed! c:

Hey, hi! Sorry to bother, but if if we already submitted our bingo sheet to the Google form at the start of the event, but then had to change our blog name/link for the raffle, should we just resubmit it with our new blog link, or would it be better to just delete the old bingo sheet and resend it as a new one?

No worries, questions and such are never a bother!

And I would say to resubmit it with your new blog and/or direct link to the bingo sheet (if you aren't sharing it from google sheets/drive)!

That way nothing gets missed, and I can easily filter through submissions leading to the same user/bingo sheet without too much issue!

How many bingo sheets can we do?

For the raffle? A maximum of one full bingo sheet (which equals about 36 entries in total including line bonuses). This is to keep everyone on a level playing field regardless of preferred media and schedule.

For clout or just having fun? Make as many as you like! Hell, make themed bingo sheets for specific OCs or canon characters, or a SFW and NSFW version. Sky's the limit otherwise! :D

Is there an ao3 collection or tag we're using?

There is a collection! It is not required to post to it since the event only requires posts for raffle entries be accessible to me simply to verify them, but everyone can find it linked on the event's carrd or directly here!

... I was also going to say 'there's no official AO3 tag but you can use-' however I am ENTIRELY INCORRECT because fun fact: there is an AO3 tag: 'Wondrous Tails of Final Fantasy XIV (Tumblr Challenge)'

I honestly did not realize that it had been wrangled into its own tag, which admittedly is quite humbling since I never imagined this event being big enough to warrant it. All the same, you can post to the collection and/or use the event tag on AO3, though I'll do my best to try and add fics myself as I come across them!

Potentially stupid question, do we submit our cards before we start, or after we've filled in the links? Or do we just submit a link to our cards that get updated as we fill them out? (I hope this makes sense.)

It does make sense, and thank you for asking (because that is absolutely not a stupid question)!

Ideally you would link to your bingo cards that get updated as you fill out the prompts, the easiest being to make a copy of the bingo sheet/template on Google drive and then to use the share link! That way it doesn’t have to be public if you don’t want it to be.

Otherwise I’ve seen people link to tumblr posts with their card as a static image and they list out all the prompts and corresponding linked fills. Whatever works best for you!

asking to calm/clear for my own neuroses: is a piece eligible if it's been in the planning for a long time and I'm using the event as a push to give the idea some concrete form?

Absolutely! The goal of Wondrous Tails is to inspire and motivate creation, and the reason that particular rule is there largely is to dissuade people from immediately posting a dozen pre-created things solely to earn entries for the raffle.

I’m not going to pull timestamps or anything like that either, so I will not give you a hard time if you had a drabble or something that you decide to expand upon for the event. In the end it’s still new stuff that you’re making!

So in the end I have no issue with people using this event to motivate themselves to create or further create upon things they’ve been planning—in essence that’s the point of it! So whether you’ve got the story in your head or you’ve made outlines, sketches or drafts and you’re looking for a push to write it out, it’s all welcome in the community c:

hello! are sign-ups closed? I just found out about this today and was hoping to participate but no worries if it's too late!

Nope! There are no official sign ups required in any way—you can participate as much or as little as you like, as the raffle portion is not inherently something everyone has to be apart of.

Honestly, even if all you wanted to do was nab some prompts and casually create stuff during the event, that’s totally cool too! The point is simply to inspire people to have fun and enjoy the act of making something for the fandom without many constraints c:
