Little Jimothy is going on a "Dopamine Detox" and wants his 8th birthday party to reflect this: instead of the typical party snacks, he will instead have empty hotdog buns and empty ice cream cones for him and his 12 friends to snack on as the party progresses. It is important to him that the total number of snacks is a multiple of 13, as that will allow everyone in attendance to have an equal amount.
As he goes to the store, he discovers that ice cream cones are sold in packs of 12, and that the only brand of hot dog buns still available comes in packs of 7. Assuming that a pack of cones and a pack of hotdogs costs the exact same and that he wants to spend the minimum amount of money to buy a number of snacks that can be spread evenly between him and his friends, answer the following questions:
a. How many packs of 12 ice cream cones should Little Jimothy buy?
b. How many packs of 7 hot dog buns should Little Jimothy buy?
c. How many snacks does each person get?

A camera is positioned on a tripod. Positioned exactly 3 meters away from the tripod is a straight line, which a UFO will travel down at a speed of 10 meters per second from right to left.
Tumblr media
The camera is turned so that it faces directly at the UFO as it passes by. If the point on the line closest to the camera is considered the origin point, at what positions of the UFO is the angle that the camera is pointed at changing at a rate of π/6 radians per second?

The moderators of the r/soda subreddit are dedicated to the complete removal from their subreddit of any members of r/neverbrokeabone and r/hydrohomies. Every day, they ban an average of 32 users from their subreddit, and the process of investigating and banning a user takes about 1 minute. Assuming that each of the subreddit's 4 moderators does an equal amount of work, how much time does each moderator spend banning people in a week?

This cat is attempting to walk in the positive x direction. However, they are held in place by the tension force of a leash which acts at an angle 30° above the negative x direction.
Assuming that friction of the cat walking is exerting a force of exactly 10 Newtons parallel to the ground, what is the magnitude of the leash's tension force?

A kilogram of water is placed in a pot of negligible mass. The water is initially 25 degrees Celsius. Over a period of one hour, 1.5 megajoules of thermal energy is applied to this kilogram of water by a burner.
A. Assuming that the rate of energy transfer is constant for the whole hour that the water is heated, how much power does the burner produce?
B. Assuming that the specific heat of water is always 4.184 J/g*K, the enthalpy of vaporization of water is 2256 J/g, and the specific heat of water vapor is always 2.01 J/g*K, what temperature (in Kelvin) is the water after the aforementioned 1.5 megajoules of thermal energy is applied?

There is a particular Tumblr poll that has two options that are evenly matched: this is to say that any given voter has a 50–50 chance of voting for either of the two options in the poll.
A. In terms of n, where 2n represents the total number of votes cast in the poll, write an explicit sequence that gives the probability that both competitors get the exact same number (n) votes, thus tying.
B. Construct an infinite series that represents the sum of all the terms in the sequence you made for part A where n ≥ 1. Does this series converge or diverge? How do you know?

This gimmick is bad.
In the gimmick blog bracket, there will be a total of 9 rounds (round 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and the final round, 8). Due to the nature of a bracket like this, each round will see the average quality of the remaining competitors increase. And, naturally, I would perform worse against better gimmick blogs.
Assuming that the odds of this blog winning any given round is 1 in (n + 2) where n is the round, what is the probability that I win every single round, achieving the ability to share the title of "best gimmick blog" with hellsitegenetics?
OK. All the blogs in this special round 0 are under the cut. Every odd number is against the even below it. We'll see how tumblr feels about the bracket image this time, but I'm not posting it until this round 0 is over.
Due to not wanting to spam your feeds and also the tumblr post limit (there are 253 polls this round!), I will be spreading these out via the queue, posting 50 a day.

A guy has a crush on another person and is attempting to determine whether this person likes him back. Every night, he records relevant interactions with his crush alongside a rational explanation, an irrational explanation, and any additional notes. Each column has a title, and all of these titles have a combined 7 words.
This guy has an average of 2 interactions with his crush every day. Each recounting of an event is an average of 15 words. Each rational and irrational explanation has the same average number of words each: 75. When included, additional notes have an average length of 35 words, however only 10% of the entries have additional notes.
After 95 days, the infatuation wears off, and the guy stops recording events in the spreadsheet.
How many words did he write?
guy who makes a spreadsheet to figure out if his crush likes him back

What I'm trying to communicate here is that the concept of of a differential equation is inherently calculus, even if the actual math work for this problem is just a bit of critical thinking and basic algebra
I wish there was a type of warm cuddly animal that requires no upkeep and can live in your car without issue

I don't disagree with you that it is an easy question, but I tagged it as that because it is ultimately what is happening here, even if it is very easy to just skip to the end if you think about it for a couple seconds.
I will admit I debated the exponential function tag, because ultimately you don't need to integrate the differential equation, but you would get an exponential function if you did.
Here's, essentially what you are doing, but in a slightly more drawn out way:
(forgive the undescribed math here... It would be REALLY nice if Tumblr randomly supported LaTeX or had its own in-house way of depicting equations but it doesn't.)
First, we set up a differential equation:
Tumblr media
M is the mass of the rice (in grams).
t is time (in days).
Now the foolproof way to figure out the amount of rice at the equilibrium is to figure out the general solution to that differential equation and find the limit as t → ∞. But I'll be honest. That's too much work for me. That's too much work for you.
Instead... If the amount of rice in the bag isn't changing day by day, wouldn't the derivative simply be 0?
Well, yeah.
Tumblr media
Then you use basic algebra to solve for M.

Your beloved fluffy pet, Sack of Rice, lives in the passenger seat of your car. However, the sack is not quite secured properly, and approximately 2% of the rice in the bag spills out every day.
You would hate to "muzzle your pet" (as you would put it), so making efforts to stop this spilling is unthinkable. Instead, you counteract it by stuffing 10 grams of rice into the bag every day.
When the amount of rice reaches an equilibrium point, what is the mass of the rice in the bag?

Pretend that there are (because I cannot find the actual number) 7 different profile pictures that a new blog can get. Assuming that these profile pictures are distributed completely eveny and that any given bot has the same probability to follow OP, what is the probability that bots with these specific profile pictures follow in this specific order?

The blog postsofbabel publishes random posts 10 times a day. Each post can hypothetically have anywhere between 1 and 1000 text blocks, and each text block has a randomly-selected number of characters between 1 and 4096, each of which is chosen randomly from a list of 96 possible characters.
Each post has at least one text block. There is a 1/3 chance to add another block. If that chance succeeds, there is a 1/3 chance to add a third block. If that chance succeeds, there is a 1/3 chance to add a fourth block, and so on. This continues until the 1/3 chance fails, or there are 1000 text blocks, which is the maximum amount of blocks that can exist in a single Tumblr post.
What is the probability of this post (1 block, 3 characters in this exact order) being made?

There are 4 cylindrical tanks that are completely filled with a particular liquid. Each tank is 20 meters tall and has a radius of 5 meters.
a. What is the total volume of liquid contained in all four tanks?
b. A teacher who foolishly believes themself to be part of a calculus problem drills a hole in the base of one of the tanks, allowing the liquid inside to leak out. Because the head of security is on vacation, the tank is allowed to drain until the level of the liquid is at just below the position of the hole, 1 meter off the ground. How total liquid is stored in all four tanks now?
c. What is the percent change in the amount of liquid stored in the 4 tanks initially, compared to after the 4th tank was allowed to drain?
Tumblr media
We're considering installing a pressurization system to keep the tanks at constant pressure solely to deter them.
Storage Tanks [Explained]
Transcript
[Two characters wearing helmets are standing on scaffolding next to two large tanks labeled "Tank #3" and "Tank #4", with the person on the left talking. Miss Lenhart has drilled a hole into the base of Tank #4 with liquid pouring out of it and she is running away with the drill.] Left person with helmet: As head of security, your primary task is to monitor the storage tanks and watch for calculus teachers trying to drill holes in their bases.

The World of Warcraft team is searching for Snart. While they do not know where he is currently, they do know where he began (point H) and all the other locations that he could possibly be at, as represented by the map below:
Tumblr media
Each day, Snart has an equal chance to head to an adjacent point or stay at his current location. For instance, at point E, Snart has an equal (1/5) chance to stay at point E, move to point D, move to point C, move to point F, or move to point G. After reaching his destination (or, alternatively, immediately if he chooses not to move), Snart will fall asleep there for the rest of the day and not wake until the following morning.
The fifth day that Snart is missing, which is to say that Snart has had the opportunity to move 5 times, you are employed to help track him down. However, because Blizzard Entertainment refuses to spend any more money on this than it has to, you can only search a single point where Snart could be.
What is the most probable location that Snart would be? What is the probability that he is at that particular location?
did they ever find Snart btw
