Completed animation.
Luckily it did not stray far from the original storyboard, however, the additional details were actually the most time consuming and could have been done without them.
In conclusion, the frames were fairly smooth, however, more polish could be done for the piece as a whole.

Throughout the recent Friday sessions, storytelling as a subject was the focus, creating strong atmosphere and voices for the characters within it.
At the start we were focused more towards short stories given examples which heavily influenced the majority of end product writing of the sessions. The voice of the characters written by the others were strong and evocative, even driving the narrative forward with just dialogue.
The issue I encountered was depicting the atmosphere, I took heavy attention to the area surrounding the characters rather than the characters themselves which ended up with a protagonist that was voiceless and underdeveloped. There was no sense of character from the writing I had finished.

Lectures on Post Modernism and the sprout of Youth Cultures during that period.
Out of all the youth cultures introduced, punk and mods were what I chose to focus on. Knowing the culture or the attitude required from each of these youth groups differentiated them, giving themselves a distinct look to follow as well as how they acted.
Punks had a rebellious nature whereas Mods were more keen on etiquette of the character. Their characters are expressed heavily in how they dress, punks having the ideology of anti fashion and Mods requiring the meticulous pairing of clothes that are of upmost quality and branding. (They are particularly specific as to how the clothes are cut or fitted).

A continuation of the one panel narrative. Trying to use more elements not seen from observation. As well as trying to create a spherical perspective that flows throughout the piece as a whole.
The process is slightly tougher as the location and themes are made up and more observational research may be needed to finish the piece.

One Panel Narrative
Crowd scene done using characters and themes from the Urban Tribes. The process was lengthy as adjusting the perspective to warp throughout the image was difficult. Though, using several pieces of paper for the draft, I could easily mix and match which piece would fit where to allow a flow of the perspective.
However, the issue remains of not being able to pen directly on paper, but the usage of a Lightbox was good experience on the scale of the piece.

Urban Tribes Project.
Documenting a group of people that are collectively within a same clique or group that carry similar traits. At the start, finding a group was difficult, wide varieties of *fun* ones out in the streets at night was tempting but I came upon a film recording crew out of coincidence.
I had managed to catch a glimpse of them at 7 am when they started and stayed until they left at 7 pm. Overall, I could barely feel my hands during the documentation as it was freezing and until now I think I can feel them at least.
Details could have been simplified and a variety of angles or perspectives could be used in future works, line art directly on paper is something I would definitely want to achieve.

Cover by Katsuhiro Otomo, of the novel AKIRA 3rd Volume. This cover I found particularly interesting as it can be more literal in the portrayal of the story, like a gateway that allows the viewer to know what they would expect from the story. It shows the dramatic expressions of characters as they look around, the world behind them crumbling with automated weapons in use, showing the futuristic aspect of the series.

Life Drawing of Figure and Space using simplified forms and trying to replicate ‘primitive-like drawings’ such as using the non dominant hand or holding the charcoal uncomfortably. Practice focused on the focus of line and u=included using ink with bamboo sticks and charcoal dust with the finger.
Further research into the figure, one being an interview of Francis Bacon, Southbank Documentary 1985 and David Hockney’s favourite drawing from Rembrandt. Both of which emphasised on the spontaneity of the work and not being afraid of the canvas allowing smooth flowing lines.

Observational Drawing at Tate and a study of the space surrounding a piece, implications in context.
The piece I chose was the ‘Little Dance Ages Fourteen’ by Edgar Degas. What caught my eye on the piece was the intricate attention to detail that was done throughout the entirety of the piece, such as the commitment to first make a nude model before clothing it in real fabric. Most notably is the gesture and physical contours of the body that managed to encapsulate the stress of the figure as well as narrate the arduous training the girl had undergone to have became the physical state as seen in the figure.
Another piece close to being chosen was the ‘Babel’ 2001 by Cildo Meireles. I particularly take interest of vintage objects but having seen the representation of these radios all turned on simultaneously to evoke the sense of miscommunication, ‘failed communication’ was interesting.

A small walk-cycle animation made for a workshop. Very jittery, though there were several in between frames that were not used due to the proportions and colours not being complete in time. Poor management of time and could have been done better by carefully framing the character first.
