It’s Nanowrimo! Here’s Some Writing Tools

Here is a list of software I have personally used. Ones with an asterisk require payment, but come with free trials and discounts for Nanowrimo participants.

Music

Spotify: Check their playlists for writing music.

Rainymood: Just rain.

Coffitivity: Recorded ambient noise from cafes around the word.

Noisly: Super simple ambient noise generator.

Ambient Mixer: A more complex mixer with super specific (and very good) ambient noises.

Progress Trackers

Word Keeper Alpha: A tracker best used for longer writing goals.

Pacemaker: A more customizable tracker, but a free account can only track two projects. Best used for a shorter goal.

Character/ World Reference

World Anvil: Very comprehensive website for storing (and displaying) information on settings and characters.

Charahub: Character repository. (Link is a referral code.)

Toyhouse: A character repository that I prefer over Charahub, but is in beta.

Distraction Busters

Freedom: Blocks sites for a limited time.

Tomighty: A small app that works as a Pomodoro timer.

Writing Software

*Dabble: Clean and simple. Free account for a one month free trial, with an extended trial during Nanowimo.

*Scrivener: Like Dabble, but if Dabble was Paint and Scrivener was Photoshop.  (Scrivener has an incredible number of features that may be helpful for some but distracting for others.)

*4theWords: Gamified writing. Battle monsters with writing sprints, get coins, buy items, level up. Free one month trial, get free stuff when using my referral code: LTLPR61978.

Fighter’s Block: Kind of like 4theWords, but simpler.

Write or Die: Not really a writing software, but if you stop writing will yell at you to continue.

The Most Dangerous Writing App: Like Write or Die, but erases your words.

Intersecting ley lines can create patterns that magically augment certain traits of those living around it. These patterns resemble a foreign alphabet, and are referred to as runes.
