Modern Eclectic (CC Pack for The Sims 4)

I pictured this late-night scene in the Landgraab estate as pure drama. Geoffrey and Nancy, whispering on the ivory sofa, under the soft glow of the chandelier like they’re hiding something. Johnny Zest lounging on the loveseat, looking way too confident, like he already knows he belongs back in the family. And there’s Malcolm, standing across from him, arms crossed, clearly ready to explode, furious that Johnny has secured his claim once more in the family. You can feel the tension.

Everything in the room adds to the mood, a modern eclectic vibe with an urban twist. There’s a classic torso sculpture standing right next to graffitied walls, curvy coffee tables sitting on a rug with a street-style pattern, and this massive, bold, angular mirror. It’s modern, it’s messy, it’s got a story.

This was inspired by my love of art galleries and the luxury-meets-street vibe. And I wanted this pack to feel like that. I made sure every surface and swatch could flip from sophisticated to edgy. Like you could take it anywhere: elegant and refined one minute, bold and rebellious the next.

With all the surviving dresses and all the girls considered worth photographs being waifish as heck, what can you tell me about how a heavier lass might have Been Fashion in the 20s? could I have flapped?

You absolutely could have flapped! People have always existed at every size, and extant garments have major survivorship bias that preserves mostly the tiniest, fanciest things. Looking at vernacular photography from the era shows us tons of people in every shape and size wearing 20s styles.

The thing is, what looks flattering and fashionable to us, now, was not necessarily what looked flattering and fashionable to them, back then.

That said, there definitely was some social pressure to be (or look) slimmer:

(did you know Lane Bryant’s been around this long?)

But honestly, most people who weren’t Hollywood stars or socialites just kind of committed to the loose, boxy silhouette.

Please tell us about your beef with fringed black minidresses

They’re not even 20s through a Hollywood filter. They’re Hollywood 20s put through several more filters of ahistorical bullshit and sweatshop-labor fast fashion, and I hate them.

Like, let’s compare the kind of dress I get asked for with the closest actual 20s dress I could find an image of.

Things in common: black. some beads? I guess?

Now here is a selection of actual 20s evening dresses that are much more representative of the era:

No one ever asks me for anything that looks like this. Not that it would help if they did, because surviving original 20s garments tend to be both tiny and fragile, when they’re in wearable condition at all.

So I usually end up helping them find a 60s drop waist black dress and calling it good enough. It’s very frustrating.

I’m currently making a frankenmesh hair for TS4, and now I’m getting to the swatches and it’s kind of tedious to rearrange the UVs for all 24 swatches. Does anyone know if there’s a quicker way to automate this rather than manually exporting the original textures and adjusting each UV map for every hair color?

Like is there a way in photoshop/gimp/procreate where I can add a mask to the original UV map I’ve been working on to efficiently get the color I need?

Hi! Would you mind me asking how do you achieve the texture of your hairs? Like how are the strands so blended together like in this picture? I'm new to this and mine always look like spaghetti and i don't know how to change that. Thank you in advance!

Hi!

As a maxis match creator, my method of creating hair consists of editing meshes from the game itself. This gives my hairstyles a cohesiveness to the other hairs in the base game for people who prefer the base game's cartoonish art style as supposed to an "Alpha" or realistic look.

For the hairstyle pictured, which you can download here, I used the headband hairstyle that came with the "High School Years" Expansion pack! For reference click here.

If you're looking to start making hair you can start with this ICONIC series tutorial --HERE-- which a lot of us hair creators in this community have learned from. There are so many helpful free tutorials and articles online.

All you need is the patience and passion to make it happen ;)

🌸 In-Game Sim-Lighting for TS4 🌸

You guys have been asking, so after all I’m sharing an in-game lighting for sims (affects the way sims are lit in-game) 😊

Made two versions:

“BLOOM” - brightens up your sims (especially when inside)

“INNER GLOW” - same, but light is smoother/less shadows

The latter one isn’t particularly well suited for game-play in my opinion, but might be useful for photoshoots :-)

Note:

You can only use one in-game sim-lighting at a time.

Keep in mind that the sims will still be affected by environmental lighting as well so the effect of the lighting will vary.

Have a look at this in-game sim-lighting by @luumia which is more subtle and might be better suited for everyday game-play.

The Sims 4 glitching and becoming pitch-black FIX!

Are you experiencing this very annoying glitch? Well I looked all around the internet and I found that lots of other people get this problem too with certain CC items, but no one had a solution other than “remove the CC”, and after looking for a solution for about a week and investigating, I found something which works as a temporary fix so we don’t have to remove the CC only to get naked sims roaming around the town.

So how do you fix it?

Step 1: Locate the exact CC that’s causing it. 

A good way of doing this is taking the sim you see glitching and cheating to strip them (eek) to see which item it is. If this is a problem as you’ve spent a lot of effort making their outfit, just add a new outfit to “copy” it, then remove the first one.

Step 2: Find the CC .package file. 

Okay so you found the item, but your Mods folder is a complete mess and there’s no way to find it there. Try using this method!

Step 3: Fix it! 

Now you have the .package file located. Open it up in Sims 4 Studio and under “Texture” you see “Shadow”. That’s the shadow map of the CC, which is unfortunately what’s breaking it. The most efficient method here is to remove that shadow map by pressing it and then clicking on “Make Blank”. You don’t need to do this for every swatch as they all use the same file, and there you go! 

Shadow maps do make CC look a lot more polished, but it’s absolutely not necessary for the CC to work. I’m also sure you could the shadow map itself and not have to remove it, but I tried a bunch and I couldn’t get that to work because I am inexperienced in this realm.

Eyelashes Glasses Fix

After testing myself. I think the fix for the broken glasses eyelashes is this:

Export Mesh and texture from original file

Start a new package from eyelashes

Import mesh and texture

Set geomatry to simglass.

Save and test

This should fix it for glasses eyelashes, and they will be in the eyelash category.

The glasses category no longer supports uv_1, so that's why its not working. Please share as much as you can! Thanks! @thefoxburyinstitute
