“He was kind to me.” Gabriel smiled. His eyes were bright. “I am glad.”
In the midst of mourning, Jesse Blackthorn finds his place in the family he has never been allowed to know, and Christopher Lightwood is given a funeral.
a little fic i wrote right after chain of thorns came out that i’m posting for the one-year anniversary because i wanted jesse to bond with his family and i wanted intermission: grief to be more than it was

The Ringbearers journey west to bring their hearts peace after being touched by the darkness of the Enemy. Bilbo Baggins finds that his heart lies eastward, instead.
Or: Bilbo is given the chance to do it all again, and to chase his heart across the depths of time so that he may have the chance to save it.

do you ever read something you'd been looking forward to for ages and ages and close the book feeling completely and utterly empty but nobody else feels the same way and is praising a lot of the things that broke your heart about it and you have a logical understanding that a lot of things made sense and were realistic as to what would happen and also not every story is made to be wrapped up neatly but you still feel so blindsided by some of the things that happened that every positive thought you had about it just feels bitter now and also you keep wondering whether you're just too dumb to understand what the point was

I feel like people sometimes have a tendency to paint Inej as a little too wide-eyed and borderline naive and I feel like that's such a misread and disservice to her character, because her faith and hope for a better future isn't some misguided assumption that everything will be okay or that the world isn't so bad. She knows exactly how bad things can be and exactly what kind of evil people are capable of, and she's saying "fuck you, you can take my autonomy and my childhood and maybe I'll never see my family or home again, but I will literally die before I let make me think that the shit I've been through is all there is. The beauty and love I experienced was real and valuable and nothing you do or say will make me let go of that or believe it's not possible for me to have again," and it is genuinely the most incredible and real thing in those books.
Inej has fought tooth and nail for every ounce of goodness she has and she'll keep wringing it out of the world because those things are real and possible no matter what, and there's nothing naive about it.

the writer’s urge to ask your friends “do you wanna see a little somethin’ i’ve been working on?” when the little somethin’ you’ve been working on is 800 words and ends in the middle of a sentence

scrolling the shadow and bone tag is so fucking funny like… girl you are allowed to say the show sucks. every other post is all like “yeah s2 ruined a ton of stuff from the books but it was so silly and fun and i just came for silly fun things so that nullifies everything wrong with it!!” like are you guys being held hostage or something? just say it. the show is bad. it’s horribly paced, ruins the crows’ characters and storylines, completely erases inej’s trauma, and you know what? the casting is bad too. please use your critical thinking skills for once before gobbling up a shitty adaptation because you think you should <3

shadow and bone has always sucked. if you are late to coming to your senses that’s fine but do not try and say that it’s only season 2. it’s a deeply ignorant and bigoted show which has terrible writing and production on every level. it has nothing worthy of your time.

idk who is lying to you guys but you don’t have to be grateful for bad media like it’s not a gift. it’s a product.

Just want to say that you don’t have to be “grateful” a piece of media you like got adapted to the screen. I’ve been seeing people say this sentiment a lot, but no. Gratitude is about appreciating the good fortune and benefits you’ve received in life. If a piece of media was adapted, and you don’t like it, then you haven’t benefitted from it being adapted. Simple as that.
We’re not talking about a free puppet show version of the story that your cousins did because they love you and want you to be happy (a thing you would have to be grateful for). We’re talking about a TV Show or Movie you had to pay for in some way, which was created as a money-making venture. If you watched it legally, you paid for it. It wasn’t a gift.
Be respectful of the people who put work into it, of course. But you aren’t required to just “be glad” or “feel lucky” or shut up and be grateful that content  you don’t like was sold to you. You absolutely don’t need to quell your criticism about the content because of someone else’s misplaced understanding that you owe the creators gratitude and therefore silence.
