Starting a Blog at 18.

Well met, friend. Let's not work a minimum wage nine-to-five until we die.

Well, Who are you?

I’m telling you, this blank page is intimidating, so bear with me. To start with, my name is Shania; an 18-year-old that is dreading working a $16 an hour job for the rest of her life - watching her mother waste away trying to make ends meet.

I don’t have many interests, nor have I ever had any dreams… but after growing up and realizing, damn, the world is harsh buckaroo, I came to want. Want health, want happiness, want wealth, want support, want - want - want.

Don’t we all.

I have a passion for understanding people. What do you think during the day? What are the thoughts that you wish to discuss but am unsure if your co-workers will outcast you? What gets you moving during the day? Your dreams and aspirations? What do you want to know more about, but don’t know where to start looking? What do you want to talk to someone about?

Questions, questions, questions.

I. Why This, Why Now

I am a pretty quiet person, only really talking around family. So, I have a shit ton to say, promise. This overwhelming time spent being quiet, was time used to better enhance my mentality. What is it that I want for myself? What gives me the want to move forward? It is my understanding that knowledge is power. I want to gather knowledge by spewing out all the crap in my brain taking unnecessary space. Hah, so Gen Z, right?

But let’s all do that. Let us all learn to not take anything personally, take things with a grain of salt, and think, does this person really affect my day?

Why now? I’m 18. I have opinions. All my life, I have been told I have had adult-like opinions, weirdly unbiased for a kid. I do tend to play devil’s advocate though, it’s fun.

II. What am I building?

Whether you are a teen, in your 20s, 30s, 40s, - I don’t care your age, really. We all have opinions, ideas, and things we want to say, but not necessarily the people to speak to. I want to be the person you share your ideas with.

Let us have a classic friendly debate.

Sometimes, topics are black and white, yes. But what about all the gray area? In this time of chronically-online 13-year-olds and 20-year-olds that want to reform what they think should be into society, but won’t accept any opinion except their own, I would think someone also want a person in the same generation to logically speak to about topics.

Unless you want to have your life ruined by everyone online, you probably shouldn’t go to TikTok for that… good publicity though.

III. What do you get out of this?

You, my amigo - or amiga - I want to be inclusive - will have my weekly newsletter, sent to you, as well as full access to all my blogs, posts, and forums.

“What will this entail?”, I hear you asking. Well, my guy/gal/person, by subscribing, you are granted access - oh ho ho - to join community forums with people such as yourself, to grow your network. These forums, also allow you to pitch topics you’d like the well-versed 18-year-old who thinks she knows everything to debate with you on, to write about.

As well as being able to join this every growing community, of course. Not as good as my humor though, I crack myself up too much.

No, but seriously, I want you to get as much out of this as I do. I want to foster truth, knowledge, and community with people. Humans are better than you think; sometimes you just need someone willing to speak with you, unjudging, truthful, and unafraid of public out-cry.
