Dee. 49. She/Her. Known as cardinalgirl75 on Ao3 and wallflower75 on Reddit. St. Louis Cardinals fan for life. Started writing Jane Austen fanfic twenty-five years ago, which means I've been in fandom longer than some of you have been alive, so I don't suffer fools easily. Credits Jaime/Brienne for waking up her creative muse after the wench's five-year absence. Fiercely devoted to protecting Grogu no matter what.

One of the funnier caveats of Hyle as a safe, age-appropriate alternative to Jaime for Brienne is that Hyle is closer to Jaime's age than Brienne's anyway. Hyle served as a knight under Randyll Tarly when Sam, now seventeen, was a small child. That would put him in his late twenties if he was knighted as a teenager, and he's no prodigy like Loras or Jaime.
Rather than a sympathetic peer, Hyle is an immature, unemployed flop who — to the very end — thinks Brienne in her inexperience can be coerced out of her most deeply held beliefs. It's no wonder that Brienne is more willing to trust a worse man who tries harder to understand her despite it all.
Hyle gleefully volunteers that he wouldn't raise the children Brienne doesn't want to have as abandoned, half-clothed children scamper about. That black comic gem of a proposal allows Brienne to reject the sterile highborn marriage of convenience that Ronnet threw in her face. I would even argue that Hyle exists to be rejected.
Unlike the Stark children, Brienne could choose to go home at any time in Feast. She could book passage to Tarth with Jaime's money. She could retreat back to her father's castle where she felt safe. She could marry Hyle and live in respectable misery. But the crux of Brienne's character is that she comes to the Crossroads and doesn't turn back.

Hey, Jaime/Brienne writers!! You've still got a couple of days to sign up!! I did it--so can you!!
(IGNORE THOSE INCOMPLETE WIPS UNDER MY BED I WILL GET THOSE DONE I SWEAR TO THE SEVEN GODS)
Tumblr media
Jamie and Brienne fandom, it’s back! The JB Fic Exchange is slathering on the sunscreen and airing out those bikinis! This time wrangled by Ambitious and winterstale24, our theme is Summer Loving/Loving Summer. Because it’s the season of sun-dappled mornings and lazy afternoons, guidelines are relaxed as a glass of lemonade on the deck of your favorite beach cottage.
We want all the fic! Please share far and wide to every JB writer you know!
Here’s the details:
The sign-up sheet will be available from May 18 – 24, 2025.
Send three prompts for your giftee. To keep things as seasonal as a ladybug skittering up a daisy, one prompt should focus on a location or environment that speaks summer to you. Could it be the bluer-than-blue waters of Tarth? A windswept vista overlooking the battlements at Casterly Rock and the Summer Sea beyond? A sunny hillside dotted with loads of wildflowers and sleepy-limbed trees? Could it be a mossy streamside near Winterfell during the warmest afternoon the North has seen in years? Just plonk our dear, darling dumbasses in a setting as specific or general as you like and see where your gifter takes the words!
Make sure you include your squicks and shudders.
Specify your writing and reading preferences for canon, AU, modern, etc.
Specify your preferred heat-level e.g. Mature, Explicit, All Readers for both reading and writing.
Your giftee and their prompts will be delivered to you on May 31, 2025. Have an icy beverage of your choice at hand and get to writing! All you need is 1k words, but overachievers are always encouraged to word until they can word no more.
The Summer exchange beach cottage doors will open on June 21, 2025 and stay open until July 27, 2025.

I guess directly sharing from AO3 is the only way to get the link to work??  Whatever.
Anyway!  At long last, I have updated this story!!  The link should take you to an author’s note that explains why you should reread the story from the beginning before diving into the new part--but if it doesn’t...there’s an author’s note that explains everything.  Enjoy!!!

I'm a simple bitch. i believe the purpose of government should be to improve the lives of its citizens and protect its most vulnerable members. unfortunately i live in a day and age where this gets me labeled an enemy of the state

Announcement
Hey, everyone! I know I haven't posted much...or at all...lately, but that is hopefully going to change soon. Real life's really thrown me a curve ball recently, and not the good kind. As I posted on Sunday, I have a new chapter of "invisible string" ready to go, and I plan to continue working on "Date Knights" again in the not-too-distant future as well.
As I move forward, I want to give those who may not have AO3 accounts a head's up that given the recent news about the scraping done for AI training, I've decided to make my fics available for registered users only. I debated about doing this for a while because of the casual fans who might not want to sign up for an account but still enjoy the stories, and I'm sorry it's come to this, but I just couldn't leave my stuff out there to be stolen like that. If there were any other way I can think of to keep the stories available for everyone and not be scraped, I'd do it, but as I debated whether to keep them public, I heard it had already happened a second time. That decided the matter for me.
