This article was interesting because of the background it gave about CTE. The text was very informative and gave anyone who has had concussions or is curious insight on how serious it is.

What It’s About:

The article focuses on CTE and concussions in athletes. Symptoms tend to show in football players, research shows that men as early as 20 can start to develop symptoms. Multiple former athletes were all found to have CTE after their deaths which have ended violently. Players like Aaron Hernandez, Philip Adams, and Dave Duerson all NFL athletes who had multiple concussions in their career and died of suicide.

Why Read it:

This article is a must read because it gives great insight to athletes but to everyone as well. Random acts of violence that we have seen from athletes and mental health issues were players are depressed and commit suicide hve been proven to be side effects from CTE. This study of concussions gives us knowledge into the unknown.

What It’s About: This article is about the new updates Microsoft Office is making to Teams. Outlook now has new RSVP features so other members will know who is attending. Teams also has a new layout that is more appealing to the eye. The camera for the meeting room also automatically adjusts to the view of the room. It adjusts to those who are currently in the room, when new members enter and others leave, and when members speak. There is also a new feature that you are able to overlap your camera video onto your presentation. Microsoft will also soon release a feature where you can receive work calls on your phone. It’s connected to your office phone, so you can receive work calls wherever you go.

Why Read it: As a future educator there is a possibility that I will be working hybrid. Microsoft Office is releasing these updates to Teams to help workers stay connected with one another. Staying connected with other teachers and staff will help educators stay up to date on information and projects. Presentations will be easier to maneuver and show to others. The new featured of receiving work calls through your phone helps you stay connected to work when you are out of the office.

The 32 owners from around the league passed a new rule change that states both teams must get a possession in overtime for post season games. The reason for this rule change is primarily due to the Chiefs versus Bills game where it was a high scoring game that ended because only the Chiefs were able to possess the ball in overtime. A lot of people around the league thought this was an injustice to the game and was the same situation from 2019 when the Patriots beat the Chiefs in the same situation.

Jenny Vrentas and Ken Belson from the New York Times do an excellent job providing details on the new rule change coming to the league. The article also gives a ton of bonus information and stats from the Chiefs-Bills playoff game for the sports fans who may not have known.

In this article, released by FOX discusses how many police officers in the United States are either supporting Biden’s executive order on law enforcement reforms.

What is This About?

Police departments around the country are either weighing in on agreeing with President Biden’s plans on law enforcement reform, and other departments see this as “political theater” which they think will demoralize and put more officers at a higher risk of being harmed in the line of duty. This executive order was signed by President Biden on the two year anniversary of George Floyd’s death due to an officer in Minneapolis. This executive reform will limit certain things the police officers are allowed to do in certain situations such as using military equipment, banning choke holds, and other tactics that are normally used in the law enforcement field. 

Why Read This?

Law enforcement reform has been a big issue in the United States for a while, and due to politics there seems to be a divide between what people believe what police officers should and should not be able to do. Police officers go to work everyday where they can be called to very stressfully or dangerous situations. This means that certain practices could be used to calm down the situation. If many of these practices are restricted, it is possible that new tactics will be created, but it is not certain how much safer they will be for police officers who are already at a higher risk of harm.

Most of the site’s content is brought together from other government organizations and websites to inform the public and beyond on what can be done to help with everyone’s mental health. Resources, links, and details of potential diagnoses and what steps you can take when experiencing mental distress are also available through the site with a particular emphasis on communication.

Why you should check it out: MentalHealth.gov acts as a hub for accessing U.S. government mental health information and in turn makes this a notable resource to have. With links to many other resources and a lot of information, psychology majors and people working through life in general would benefit from giving this site and the HHS a look.

In this article, written by CNBC explains a groundbreaking Supreme Court Case that could leave the company Bayer, who owns Roundup, owing millions in damages.

What Is This About?

The weed killing chemical Roundup has reportedly caused cancer in multiple people. They have evaded lawsuits before, but the Supreme Court allowed a California resident Edward Hardeman a 25 million dollar reward from this case. A chemical in Roundup was reported to be carcinogenic to people. 

Why Read This?

The Supreme Court is the ultimate decision making body in the United States. Lower courts have to follow the precedent of the Supreme Court and rule the same way. If a similar case would come up like this in  a lower court, the court would then side with the victim, and not Roundup. Bayer also decided to take the chemical that causes cancer out of Roundup.

I use Spotify everyday so reading this article that the Human Resources published about the behind the scenes aspects of hiring in the company was fascinating.

This article described how the changing process is designed to make the experience better for the Human Resources department and for the candidates looking to work for the company.

Why you should check it out: Every company handles hiring differently, but this post could be helpful to see how a big company like Spotify is handling their hiring process. Having a bit of insight into the changing workplace could give readers of this post a leg up in a competitive company.

In New York, a Federal Judge through out a lawsuit that questioned the constitutionality of a law that would hurt firearm sellers, manufacturers and distributors business. The law that was kept by the federal judge allows “firearm sellers, manufacturers and distributors to be sued by the state, cities or individuals for creating a “public nuisance” that endangers the public’s safety and health.”

Why Read This?

Keeping this law in place after numerous mass shooting could have a real impact on the business model on firearm distributors and manufacturers. Guns have become a big problem in The United States for the past decade, and especially in the last few weeks. If a law like this would have been thrown out it would leave firearm sellers, manufacturers and distributors free to do whatever business they like without the government getting involved.

In this article written by Jake Bleiberg, Jim Vertuno, and Elliot Spagat explained the recent school shooting in Ulvade Texas and how the police responded to the incident. 

What It’s About:

When the school shooting in Ulvade Texas occurred, many civilians were urging and yelling to the police officers who responded to the call to go inside the school and put an end to the massacre. Onlookers of the incident believed that the local law enforcement officers did not do enough to stop the horrid event. The reason why police officers did not go into the school was because they were “unprepared.” Police officers should be prepared for all situations that they respond to because they are the legal peace makers of society. 

Why Read It:

Sadly in today’s world many public shootings occur in schools, and police officers are the people responsible to go to the incident and put it to an end as quickly as possible. This explains what more the responding officers could have done as they got there and why they did not go into the school while innocent children were being killed.
