Goodbye to my grandmother

Grandma

I will never again bake waffles together with you, and get get told that I eat to much of the dough.

I will never again get a birthday card from you that you chose for me from the book store you liked so much.

I will never again see the the twinkle in your eyes when we banter with grandpa.

But I will also never forget you, because there are so many things that remind me of you.

Fanfold paper, because you used to draw our feet on it.

The leaves on the trees and toothpicks, where we used to make crowns with.

Squirrels, which you used to take care of when they fell out of the tree. You were a nurse, for humans and for animals.

But also the sheep near your house, skating, and the smell of coffee remind me of you.

And riding a bike, because you taught me that. "Pedal, J, Pedal!!", you yelled. And that's what I will always keep doing: keep pedalling, keep pushing through. I will do that for you.

We will always have a cup of coffee ready for you. We will always think of you.

I think we, as a general community, need to start taking this little moment more seriously.

This, right here? This is asking for consent. It’s a legal necessity, yes, but it is also you, the reader, actively consenting to see adult content; and in doing so, saying that you are of an age to see it, and that you’re emotionally capable of handling it.
