Before we got an air conditioner in my sons room he would sleep with ice packs in cloth bags instead of stuffies at night during the hot summer nights when the sun stays out until nearly midnight

Since there’s that huge heat wave that’s about to fuck up like 3/4 of the US, I’d like to stand on my soapbox for a second. I’m not a doctor, I’ve just lived somewhere with summer temps over 110 for most of my life.

Obviously, the best thing to do during a heat wave is STAY INDOORS. Of course, that’s not always possible.

Get a couple washcloths, or rags, or old shirts you don’t care about. Get them nice and damp. If you wanna get fancy with it, throw some essential oils on them. Who cares. The important thing is that they are WET. Next step, fold them into rectangles (so they hold the coldness longer!) and put them in their own zippy bag or an old grocery bag or whatever. Doesn’t matter, just don’t let them freeze in a clump. ANY TIME YOU LEAVE YOUR HOUSE, GRAB A FROZEN RAG. Drape it on the back of your neck. Dab yourself like a fancy Victorian lady. Do whatever helps. One of my friends keeps them in her bra. Whatever works!

Windows. They let heat in. Blackout curtains help a lot, but they’re not magic. Get a nice thick blanket (not a comforter, too heavy) or fold up some sheets. Pin or nail your blanket/sheets above your window like dorm curtains. Block that heat OUT!

HYDRATE. Everyone says it because it’s TRUE. Dehydration sucks. Heat stroke sucks more. Learn the symptoms and what to do if it happens to you or someone else. On that note…

Replenish those electrolytes! It’s gonna be hot. You’re gonna sweat a LOT. If you’re chugging water and not replenishing your electrolytes, you can actually have a heart attack. Even if you don’t have a heart attack, you can still faint (medical emergency, especially in the heat!) or best case scenario, feel like garbage. Pedialyte is nasty but it works. Sports drinks, sure whatever. Those little pouches of powder that you add? Whatever you like. If you don’t have any of those, eat something salty while you drink your water.

played a recent horror game demo and when i got to a specific part the game played the steam screenshot noise and said "screenshot saved to documents folder :D" and then when i frantically searched my files paths it gave me this

that red arrow is something i added to point out that thats the player character down there, not the monster meaning the game had someone up there following my character

they do it 2 more times and each time i dropped everything to find the picture cause ive never seen a game really do this idea before of having a different pov of something or someone following you but only seeing it after they got a pic

More good news from the officials today

And every day I see posts from fire departments across Canada who’ve sent people and equipment and supplies up to help

I’ve never been more proud to be a Manitoban Canadian. I’ve never been more proud to call these people my people.

I couldn’t have asked for a better premier than Wab Kinew, he’s really putting Scott Moe to shame on this one.

So proud to have a premier that cares and isn’t afraid to show it, and be blatantly and bluntly indigenous in the face of some pretty radical racial movements below the border.

Anyway, I’m babbling like a baby in my hotel room bathroom.

I will be creating a gofundme once we have word on when we can return and what the damages are going to be like. There’s going to be a lot of smoke damage, a lot of spoilage, my whole fridge and deep freezer will need to be emptied at minimum. My son and I are both in the at risk health community so it will be a lot of air purifiers, masks, breathing aids at minimum, but I don’t think it’s right to start asking for money or help before I know the extent of the damage, I might be wrong in that thinking but that’s where I’m at now with it.

Pray for rain, pray for wet weather and the men and women who are risking their life to hold mother nature’s wrath at bay right now.

The fire was two blocks away from my house the day after we left, we could see it racing across the marsh at the end of the street when we left.

But it hasn’t crossed the highway and must have burnt through most things there because it’s clear of smoke this morning.

Was put in contact with someone across the street from me who’s front door delivery cam is pointed straight at my house so I know my block is okay, my house is okay and it’s relatively smokeless in my neighborhood which means it hasn’t crossed the highway and is probably out of most fuel on that side of the road. Good news.

The town of creighton still stands this morning. The massive fire that stole homes in Denare Beach the day before was held at Collin’s street in creighton. Homes were doused in fire retardant gel and properties were hosed down before the fire came and our firefighters stood and held the line until it passed. No property lost in creighton or flin flon yet but that massive fire has already claimed homes in Denare Beach and Beaver Lake.

I don’t care who or what you pray to but pray for rain and cold weather for the north. Over 17000 people are displaced and currently homeless until this is under control and the town is not only safe but resupplied. Even after the fire is gone we can’t go home until stores are restocked with groceries again. It’s going to be a long time until civilians like myself are allowed to go home to what we have left.
