Ok, so my new obsession is mxtx books and series. They’re so fckng good aaaaaaaaaaaaa how did they made me hyper focus on two series in a row??
If you followed me for OffGun and don’t like tgcf, svsss or mdzs (haven’t read this one yet but have watched the donghua and absolutely will read it!!!) you should probably unfollow
Side note: I have unfollowed people because their posts switched from offgun to danmei (idk which ones) and now I regret it, these people were just so ahead of me 😭 I’m sorry!!! Come back!!!

I thought about this so often that I just assumed it was canon
Pei Ming has the energy of a bisexual man with a strong leaning towards women who just assumes that all men are also attracted to guys but it’s just not really something you think about much

The Marriage Equality Law has been enacted in Thailand...
The news that His Majesty, the King has signed and approved the Marriage Equality Law was announced in the Royal Gazette today, September 24, 2024. This means that the law will officially come into effect on January 22, 2025!!!
❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
What new changes has the law brought into effect?
- Two individuals can marry regardless of gender
- The minimum age for marriage has been raised from 17 to 18 (You will still need parental consent to marry should you be under the age of 20, which is what Thailand considers a "legal adult")
- Thai citizens can register their foreign marriages under Thai Law (I am very happy to see this being specified as I wasn't sure it would be-- big excitement for someone who has a 'foreign' partner)
- Joint Adoptions are allowed
- Spouses have the right to inherit after spousal death
- Spouses can be assigned as medical proxies to make any/all medical decisions for their spouse
- Spouses gain rights under social security law: including compensation and retirement benefits in case of spousal death
- Spouses are entitled to tax benefits, including personal income tax deductions
[SOURCE]
Looking to the future, there is currently a draft for the "Gender Identity Recognition Act" that, I desperately hope, is on its way to parliament 🤞🏾🤞🏾🤞🏾

Ryan: [returning from trying to fix a problem] The bad news is I’ve made everything completely worse.
Jane: What’s the good news?
Ryan: I didn’t say there was good news.

This person ranted so I didn’t have to!
Please learn what queer/lesbian baiting means you guys, the allegations are getting ridiculous.
No hate to people who are hurt about it, it sucks when you’re rooting for something to happen in a show and it doesn’t, but just because you don’t like it, it doesn’t mean that the writers were wrong or are bad.
Also, Tae is not an asshole because he can’t take care of himself, this just makes him a bit pathetic, in a way that makes you want to ask him if he’s ok because that’s just worrisome (Plus I hate that the show made him the bad guy in the relationship, there’s no excuse for cheating, Bamhee should’ve communicated if something was upsetting her or just break up).
As expected twt bl scene is instantly MAD that taebamhee got back together and saying that judybamhee was just sapphic-bait to get views....
oh I wish they knew how very wrong they are on so many levels and points
- its an OffGun series, they never had to beg for viewers to tune in
- JudyBamhee storyline wasn't just sapphic-bait because it was important for Judy to realise she does in fact like girls too
- TaeBamhee might not be the best couple but they are realistic and they care for each other so you might not like it, but them getting back together wasnt a surprise
- Tae is NOT an asshole. oh my god!!!! if you (dear fellow tumblrians) were to see just how much Tae is getting hate on twt and getting flamed every week with how useless he is as a person.... oh you'd be pissed. I am a Tae apologist through and through tho so I might be biased.
Anyway, i seriously hate how shallow a ton of watchers are when it comes to a somewhat lightweight series.
I believe that the word limit on social media has seriously affected how people are able to share their thoughts and in doing so seriously effected media literacy negatively 😫😫😫

I have to say, I really love the balance and parallels The Trainee is pulling off with their interns. Specifically though, the focus on BaMhee and Ryan as our central leads, because they directly parallel each other in this story.
Of our interns, BaMhee and Ryan are the ones that didn’t really mean to be there. BaMhee is there following Tae with no real aspirations of her own outside of being close to him. Ryan is there because his only friend encouraged him to try it and he got pulled into the wrong interview. They both show up relatively aimless and without a real objective which is contrasted by Tae and Pie who are so focused on their dreams/objectives they have a hard time seeing around their own plans. Pah has a dream, like Pie and Tae, but he lacks confidence in his ability to complete his dream, in the way that Ryan struggles with his confidence.
And throughout the story, they’ve allowed Ryan and BaMhee to start finding themselves within the story. Both have become more involved and valuable to production as time has gone on. In the early episodes, BaMhee was usually texting Tae and Ryan was often silent and confused. Now BaMhee takes initiative and makes her own decisions. Ryan has taken to coming up with his own ideas and sharing them, as well as getting involved in scene set up and being better at handling extras.
Both had very significant revelations in today’s episode about who they actually want to be or might be that were explored in 4/4.
BaMhee realized she was still in love with Tae and while she likes Judy, she doesn’t like her enough to want to have a full relationship. I was always worried that BaMhee liked the attention and the confidence of Judy because we didn’t get to see much of Judy beyond her work persona (unlike Jane who we saw behind the curtain much earlier). I actually loved BaMhee’s speech to Judy about how no one person is an exact fit (which is why you cannot survive on one relationship alone - romantic, familial, friend - a person needs multiple people) and how both Tae and Judy have things that fit her and things that don’t. But it’s the love and feelings that she has for Tae that make her want to try.
And I find this evolved for BaMhee because it often felt, in the early eps, that she just wanted to be with Tae to be with Tae and not for her relationship with Tae. Like it didn’t feel like a thing she was choosing so much as clinging to. I know she knows that because she told Tae flat out what she wants, which BaMhee never did before. She laid out she doesn’t want grand gestures or big surprises; she just wants time.
Directly paralleled with Ryan, who has now had Jane in his home, and is finding his footing. We saw it some the last two episodes, but this episode had Ryan contemplating his dreams, and who he is, and what persona he might wear, or not. I loved the throwback to the interview and him explaining while he didn’t want to be porridge with side dishes then, just a person in the background supporting, now he does want to be porridge with side dishes because he wants to figure out what fits him best. Who he wants to be as a grown up.
I love that Jane pointed out earlier in the episode that no “adult” has it all together and even asked if people need big dreams. His own contemplation of his dreams and where he is over where he thought he might be was a lovely reflection in the conversation with Ryan. It’s beautiful how they talk about these things.
And @lurkingshan has a beautiful post on BaMhee’s relationships with Judy and Tae respectively, and how Ryan and Jane are slower, but Ryan and Jane are also deeper. Judy didn’t really listen to BaMhee, not really, or ask probing questions. Judy and BaMhee both operated separately, sometimes in concert and sometimes in opposition, whereas Jane and Ryan communicate about ideas and feelings and dreams. Another contrast I’ve enjoyed was Jane let Ryan in first, with the feeding and bringing him home, before he crossed into Ryan’s world in episode 10. Which is a contrast to Judy showing up at BaMhee’s family restaurant (entering her space first) and having BaMhee feed her while we still know very little about Judy. Yes she talks BaMhee out, later, but she doesn’t ask first. Jane always asks. It’s a very cool contrast of how both of their relationships with their mentors have helped clarify things for BaMhee and Ryan in multiple ways, while being very different.
Anyway, while I am sad my sapphic plans didn’t pan out, I still love this show dearly and it’s so well written and beautifully shot.

Throughout the Trainee, I’ve been waiting for the shoe to drop—for some big reveal about an ultimate problem at the company or for someone to be fired who had gone too far—but the show is too mature, it has to much compassion towards all of its characters (and towards people’s humanity in general) to do that.
I saw so many instances of mistakes happening, some more obvious, some subtle, some key to the plot, some seemingly background fodder, some addressed by the characters explicitly, and some that the characters or the show just seemed to observe without commenting on. Some of these mistakes didn’t amount to anything, like the broken hard drive, and some of them caused real physical harm to people in the show, like the cosmetic mix-up during testing. I presumed there was a kind of accumulation happening. I thought that the mistakes were adding up to something, a bigger conclusion about this work environment, or a commentary on work environments and society at large. The Trainee, however, refuses to construct a larger theory about work and life’s problems. It refuses to condemn anyone or any one thing to that extent. Each mistake is its own problem. And each person is capable of contributing to it and finding a way to move past it.
You see, what Jane says here is the core theme of the show:

Don’t assume; ask questions; talk it out with the recognition that everyone is coming to the table with different backgrounds, skills, areas of knowledge, flaws, fears, and hopes. They will not be perfect, and neither do you have to be. The Trainee wants its characters and its audience to find the courage, like Ryan and Jane, Ba Mhee and Tae, or the lovely moments between Pah and all his coworkers this week, to speak up with curiosity and openness.
Then, the next step it shows so wonderfully is how you can appreciate what complexities you contributed to the situation. You can acknowledge and apologize for your role once you understand it—not because you are wrong or right, but because acknowledgement and sorries are ways to show other people that you didn’t find a way to help avoid the problem either that time. It’s important to note, as I see some discourse rising up about who apologizes in the conversations during the show, that Thai and Broader Asian cultures in general have a VERY different culture around apologies, humility, and shame so that those feelings and their related gestures are used to build connection and positive feelings, compared to negative shame in Western culture; book rec if your interested in that topic and more—Between Us: How Cultures Create Emotions.
The show doesn’t have some moral argument to say about a systemic HR issue at this office. It also doesn’t depict its office as devoid of deeply troubling systemic issues like sexual harassment. Its recommendation to address the issues, though, is not through stricter enforcement of rules or the perfecting of one’s behavior. It’s to communicate when the time is right on with self-respect and compassion.
There is just so much love and care in every element of the Trainee, and I already know it’s gonna be a comfort show to return to again and again in the future because it’s intricately produced tone and its story just release the tangled knots of perfectionism in me without discouraging me from my desire to grow and improve. You can just tell it’s done by people who love their jobs and their work environment. How rare to see a workplace in media be simultaneously so realistic in its depiction and still so positive about the overall experience 🌻
