I think something a lot of the Kevin Vs Jean healing think pieces miss is that it's not something unique to the Foxes that makes Kevin's drinking problem slip through the cracks. Yeah the Foxes are rude and mocking and act with contempt. But Cat, Laila and Jeremy, the characters that effectively serve as the series normal-meter also don't see a problem with it. They see Kevin jugging straight vodka to cope with the stress from the interview and they laugh it off. It's not that the Trojans are a better found family™, it's a combination of alcoholism not being taken seriously unless it actively impacts other people negatively, and Kevin's status as a celebrity since basically birth effectively dehumanizing him to literally anyone else but Jean.

Jean never was as big of a public figure as Kevin was, which resulted both on the scale of trauma he suffered and also his inability to mask said trauma. Before the TSC timeline it isn't even public knowledge how fluent he is in English, which is the language of the university he's actively going to! Even the rumours about him only start getting spread after he's already left the Ravens under controversy, which allows him to at least have the benefit of the doubt from most Trojans. There is no expectations about who he is supposed to be, so the Trojans don't have a hard time seeing his barely disguised problems.

On Kevin's side, not only were his abilities to disassociate and save face actively the main things keeping him alive, they inform how every other character perceives him. People think they know Kevin and what he's about. The idea that there is something behind his media personality is literally mind breaking. There are two times where this is highlighted, in relation to the 'Master' nickname. Jeremy thinks it in TSC, and Cat outright says it in TGR, that it's something that's worse coming from Kevin's mouth than from Jean's. Because Jean looks and acts like a person who has been in a cult for the last five years, and they saw Kevin laughing on the TV last week. That's the main obstacle in Kevin's healing.
