thinking about how mr. "don't fall for me" riorson, who was already falling in love/in love with violet, but fighting it & in deep denial about it, made a pt to leave her a bouquet of violets after they had sex together for the first time, likely knowing she had received mutilated ones in her bed as a threat months prior, so it wasn't just about making her feel seen & cared for, but trying to replace a smaller trauma w/a gentle & tender gesture bc it's little things like that, that can make all the difference (and if that man doesn't know a thing about trauma & being haunted. plus, it makes this exchange even more poignant:

Tairn: “He cares for you. That’s already hard enough for him.”

Violet: “He cares about keeping me alive. There’s a difference.”

Tairn: “Not for him there isn’t.”)

The fact that both Brennan and Mira's signets are probably manifested because of Violet. Mending being Brennan's signet because he watched Violet being sicked and injured all the time when she was a kid and Mira's signet is warding because she's extremely protective of Violet and she wanted to protect Violet all the time🥹🥹

You know what fantasy stories don't use enough? Different measuring scales, and confusion caused by them. Because before the metric system, practically every place and culture had their own measures for weights, lengths and distances. It would be fun to add that into a story for added realistic cultural confusion.

The average dwarf is four or five feet tall, but not in human measures. Yeah they're still shorter than humans but the dwarf foot (and the namesake measure of length) is bigger in proportion to their body. "Is that in dwarf feet or human feet?" is a common question to hear on construction sites, wherever human carpenters and dwarf masons are working together.

A dedicated local Common Misconception Historian has a pet peeve about the whole "princess Featherblade was only 12 years old when she led the attack on Marshland Halls" -myth, because the historical recordings on the human side are off. While she was remarkably young, that myth came about back in the day when humans were still trying to apply "dog years" to elves, and in an elven life span, 120 years is not a direct equivalent to a 12-year-old human.

A whole culture whose smallest unit of weight loosely translates to "about as much as an apple", and varies from region to region depending on the size of local apples. These people are famed for their alchemists, whose uncanny ability to simply measure their ingredients by heart, making their recipes essentially impossible to replicate. This famed skill is a matter of survivor bias - the ones that don't have that knack ten to explode into fine mist.

If most candidates don't cross parapet with weapons, and you don't get a weapon until you earn it, where the hell do cadets get the daggers for challenges? Are they each issued one or two with their uniforms? And for someone who sucks at challenges, how do they keep getting more to lose?

It’s taken me way too long to appreciate the symbolism behind Xaden’s scars.

The scars for the Marked Ones are on his back, because he carries the weight of their lives, choices and loyalty on his shoulders.

And the scar for Violet is over his heart, because he’s vouching for the woman who holds it.

Why is Dain your favorite?!

Lol, Dain isn't my favorite per se but I think he's overhated by the fandom. He's a bit of a dick but in a very.. how your dad would give you eyeroll-worthy but ultimately good advice kind of way. Xaden also shares a lot of similar characteristics as Dain but he's off the hook so easy but Dain is just made to sound like a horrible person. I just want everyone judged in the same scale ya know?

He insisted Vi go to scribe quadrant, which while annoying af, was actually a very valid suggestion? That was her dream and she was forced to Riders? I mean, Xaden would have made his 100 something marked ones go to other quadrants too if the choice was there? To save their lives? He wouldn't stand by and see them falling one by one if he didn't have a choice. But y'all hated Dain for wanting to save her life THIS way but when he said he wont break rules to save her during training, it was like GASP HOW DARE HE!

Which brings me to: Dain followed rules. Which is apparently the worst thing ever but dun dun dun hypocrisy, when Cat got into Vi's head while fighting Vi and Rhi and everyone lost it.. because Cat wasn't following rules of combat so like you want rules followed but only when it's convenient for you, hm?

He read her mind once (not defending, he did bad thing yes) and shared info about Xaden to his father because he thought she was in danger. Xaden read her mind for weeks, and also reads minds of EVERYONE and that's okay but Dain's one time is despicable? I mean if he's so despicable, hate Xaden more? No? Yeah that's what hypocrisy is.

His whole "betrayal wasn't a betrayal" thing wasn't even a plot twist to me because the only reason to hate Dain was that Vi told you guys to hate him and y'all went with it. And I was really like yeah what did you expect you easily forgot he was your friend for years coz you made new friends?

Anyway, Not saying Dain was great, he had his flaws, but oh boy, he is not a villain like this fandom hive mind makes him out to be. Also disclaimer, I LOVE Xaden a LOT. So, this wasn't anti Xaden in anyway. Just pointing out facts.

I was wondering what Xaden’s reaction would’ve been if he’d been the one to open the door to Catriona in the see-through lace nightgown.

Only to realize, it’s really not a big mystery.

Like I’m pretty sure he would’ve just slammed the door in her face, gone to bed, and told a half-awake Violet to go back to sleep as the knocking on their door wasn’t anything important.

And that’s very funny to me.

Ok, but...The revelation of Xaden's second signet left me like "Oh...ok." 🤷🏻‍♀️

He set it up in a way that had me thinking it was some awful, unspeakable thing, instead it was...that.

And honestly? He was right to keep it for himself. They literally walk among people with secret, classified, magical abilities, and his gf's ex-totally untrustworthy-bff reads people's mind with a touch of the hand, and his secret might get out in a million ways that don't depend on Violet and her ability to keep secrets. I would have brought that shit to my grave.
