so i guess my big question on modding skyrim is: what is your opinion following a modlist/wabbajack/etc. for important basics like script extenders, engine fixes, etc. and then building a custom modlist on top of that? i'm wondering if this is really a good option for skyrim since i followed the viva new vegas guide for basics for fallout new vegas and then customized it myself alright. idk i'm just intimidated by skyrim LOL

i think this is what most people do! I've actually never used wabbajack myself because my ssd is only 500gb 😅 so yeah i don't have first hand experience but i know there are modlists that are specifically meant to be a "foundation" that you can build upon, and a lot of wabbajack authors and youtubers have their own discord servers with step-by-step guides and people who are happy to help out.

i don't think it's a bad idea at all to preinstall bug fixes and skse plugins although i would still read through the mod pages just to understand what they're for + to make sure you are not bloating your list with unnecessary mods. from there i would move to ui, meshes, textures, which are basically plug-and-play there is no danger of really messing up your game too bad and you can experiment with what you like.

whenever you get to more complex mod categories like physics/animation, lighting, AI/dialogue changes, immersion/quality of life, i would just take it easy and read all the mod pages carefully and make sure you have all the prerequisites. it can be intimidating but once you get the hang of it it's hard to stop lol

hi anna!! i just wanted to let you know the linked guide for modding for beginners on your modlist takes you to a thing that makes you request access. i wanted to bring this up because i'm trying to learn more about modding skyrim (i've modded all 4 dragon ages, oblivion, fallout new vegas and fallout 3 but skyrim... she scares me LOL) and i wanted to try referencing the beginner guide before bothering you with potentially annoying questions lol
