Hello, I鈥檓 interested in the sapphic fantasy romance zine. I just would like to know if there are any rules against problematic pairings (minor x adult, etc) as I would love to apply, but alas anxiety real and won鈥檛 let me until I ask
Thank you very much!
Hi! Since this is romantasy, some problematic aspects are ok. Genre typical "problematic" stuff like power imbalances (ex. queen/her personal guard, dragon/princess she kidnapped, etc.) and fantasy age gaps (ex. 20 year old human/400 year old elf) are ok. "Problematic" as in illegal (adult/minor, incest) are not.
Thank you for your question! I'll update the info doc :D

hello! im interested in applying to in her arms as a writer, and i saw that to receive a physical copy, writers must be at least 18 by november/december. im 17 rn and don't turn 18 until january 2026, but i would still want to contribute even if it means only getting access to the digital zine. are people allowed to contribute if theyre under 18 if they won't be compensated?
Hello! Great question - it actually made me realize a little oversight I had. That section was modeled after other zines, many of which offered monetary compensation. Since this zine's compensation is just physical objects, I talked about it with some other folks who have run/been a part of similar projects. Additionally, it doesn't sit right with me that people wouldn't get a book after putting in the same work as everyone else so I updated the info doc.
As of today (June 13, 2025): All contributors will receive physical copies, but must be at least 16 to apply. This change does not apply retroactively, as I did not have any section indicating age on the application and it was my blunder forgetting that there are teens who would be interested in being a part of this project.
Thank you for asking!

Hi, I'm a little scared to apply for the zine because I don't really have any published original works. Most of my works are fanfiction. Can I still apply? Thank you.
Hello! You can totally still apply! While the zine itself will be original works only, in the applications I'll be looking at things like prose and character interactions, so it doesn't matter if your samples are fic or original works.

are the contributor apps for the sapphic romantasy zine very competitive? have you been receiving a lot?
Hello! So far, there are about 20 apps. The interest check plateaued at around 50 people interested in contributing so if those people apply along with some folks that didn't fill out the IC, I'm expecting maybe 60-70 apps at the very most. So there will be a little competition, but not too much. (Right now, it looks like there is mostly competition for page artists)

hello! i am interested in writing for the sapphic romantasy zine, but i havent written for zines before and thus dont really have a "portfolio." most of my writing up until now has been fanfic and my original writing is pretty much all unpublished. do you have advice for someone looking to break into the zine world?
Hello! As I was thinking up an answer to this, I realized that my way of doing things is a bit more relaxed and probably not the best example for zines as a whole. So I will share some advice I've heard from mods of other projects along with advice for this specific one
Generally:
Fanfic, unless stated otherwise, is fine to use in a portfolio. Mods are mostly looking for things like how you depict interactions between characters, how your dialogue flows, how you write prose, etc.
Make sure your samples fits into the word count parameters set by the zine. Usually, this is 1-2k words per sample.
There is no "standard" for how much you put in a portfolio. I've seen some ask for just 3 samples of your best work and others ask for 3-5 or 5-10 pieces of work. If you have about 5 works you feel best show off your skills, you should be good to go
Try to include at least one piece that is relevant to what you are applying for. If it's a fandom zine, have a sample from that fandom. If it's a monster zine, have a sample including a monster. You get the idea. Not all zines will require this, but most have a heavy preference towards applicants that have shown they are capable of writing whatever subject matter is going to be at the focus of the zine.
For this project:
I don't know where you post your fic, but you can pop an ao3 profile (or other fanfic site profile) in the "portfolio" section. If you post on tumblr, you can put something like "I post on [blog name] and use [hashtag] for my writing" so it's easier for me to find. Based on the interest check, I'm not expecting a massive amount of applicants, so I have time to do things a little more tediously.
I think that's all the advice I got. Hopefully it was helpful!

Hi! Could we know who are the mods for the Sapphic Romantasy zine and what is their experience with zines and producing physical products?
Hello! I (@xochitai) am running this project by myself. I've participated in close to 20 zines at this point and hosted 4 of my own - 2 are completed and available for free download and 2 are in progress. I have experience producing stickers, prints, and character cards, but this is my first time producing a physical book.
That being said, I've done a lot of research. The manufacturers are already lined up (including some alternates just in case the US tariff situation is still bad by the time the production period starts). The budgeting is also mostly complete. I just have some minor recalculations since I decided to accept more writers than initially planned.
I know there'll probably be some road bumps since this will be my first time ordering certain products, but I have done my best to prepare for them.
If I do end up bringing anyone else on as a mod, I will make an announcement about it so y'all are not left in the dark.

Hi! The sapphic romantasy zine looks very cool! Is there any information applicants should know about the rights to art or writing? Are contributors allowed to use their contributions however they want after the zine is done? Thanks!
Hello! Yes, creatives will retain full rights to their work. After the zine is complete (aka once the physical copies/bundles have been shipped out), contributors can post/print/do whatever they feel like with their work. Thanks for asking! I'll update the info doc

for the sapphic romantasy zine, are you only accepting sapphic artists/writers? I completely understand if so! but I'd like to clarify :)
Hello! Apps for In Her Arms will be open to everyone. I was thinking about having preference for sapphic creators, but 1. it seems like most people interested already are 2. I don't want to make people feel like they have to disclose their sexuality to be a part of it and 3. I myself am aroace so it would feel a little hypocritical to limit acceptances based on that. Thanks for asking! I'll update the info doc for clarity :)
