Moving on

I can’t be the only one who’s exhausted from this fandom, or more specifically the Dsmp fandom. I was a part of it for a while, since august of 2020 and I watched it grow and change and eventually turn into what we have today. And throughout those two and a half years, I experienced some of the best and worst aspects of the fandom. Recently, controversy after controversy, I gave up on it. To be more specific again, I gave up on Dream. There’s only so much I can excuse and it’s so frustrating and tiring to watch everything happen and I don’t have enough energy to care anymore.

I gave myself an ultimatum. My favorite content creator is Slimecicle and he has been since the Lunch Club era. I said that if he in any way condemned Dream, I would give up on him. I needed a reason, and this felt like the best way for some reason. During the Technoblade charity stream, there’s a moment when Dream randomly drops into the call and no words are even said, but you can tell the atmosphere has dropped. And Charlie doesn’t look angry, or disgusted, he just looks uncomfortable. And that was it. I was done.

Maybe I took too long to let go. Maybe I should have given up sooner when the controversies became too much. But it’s hard to let go of something you’ve spent so long enjoying. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t regret the time spent in the fandom. I made some works I’m proud of, met some incredible people. I’m happy I joined the fandom. I’m sad I’m leaving, but at this point it’s for the best.

All this was truly solidified when I took an au of Dream and changed the character, turning into an OC with no relations to the fandom. And I love the character and it helped me realize something. I didn’t like Dream anymore, I like the character, C!dream. And by taking away the Dream, I was still left with a character I loved.

I’ll still be a part of things. There are some incredible projects by MCYTs that I can’t wait to see, Generation loss, Sorry boys, maybe even some QSMP. I wish nothing but success for the content creators I will continue to watch. Thank you for a good couple of years, cheers, I’m out.
