Hands slammed on his desk as he stood up, nearly upsetting his chair. “YA WATCH YER TONE WITH ME. I fucking learned my lesson. I realized how much taking Pro down’d hurt Lance, so I stopped. Now…”

And just as suddenly as it started, it stopped. “Now he’s hurting, and I dunno how ta fix it… Other than bringing whoever did it ta justice. Or rather, letting him bring the person ta justice. He deserves revenge. The man was his brother, despite what he was capable of. I ain’t done it, I couldn’t’ve done it. Instead’a pointing fingers at me, ya could help us find the real culprit.” He sighed, sitting back down and putting his head in his hands.

“Please… Alright? ‘M begging ya ta help us out, here.” A convincing sniffle (when weren’t they convincing?), and his shoulders shook with tears.

“Please… he’s hurting a-and this is all I can think of ta h-help him…”

She faltered. For just a moment, she bought the act. But hate won--she remembered that this was Petrel she was staring at, and that meant more than one thing to her.

“You’re lying! You’re a filthy fucking liar!” To seal her accusation, she pointed a knife at him, making her threat very clear--she was not afraid to lose her life for the opportunity to take his.

“You’re Petrel. It’s your JOB to lie. It’s what you’re BEST at. I bet you can’t even turn it off can you??? I wonder if you even LOVE him!”

Venus was shaking. With anger, with jealousy, with a twinge of fear.

“I feel sorry for Lance. He’s blinded by love. He’s sleeping with the real culprit every night. But me, my mind is perfectly clear. And as much as I’d love to give him the chance to kill you, I know he won’t do it. So you’re all mine, ‘Pet’. How poetic is it gonna be for you to die by the hands of a little bitty grunt?”

and how do we know you didnt do it? what if you were angry he was being too timid or something, or maybe that he wanted to just be friends. seems like the sort of thing youd do, with how obsessed you are.

“What is this, a game of ‘who stole the cookie from the cookie jar’? No, I didn’t kill the man I was practically dating. I was one of the few people who believed in him. Who wanted to take care of him and help him heal. I was willing to die for him do you understand? I was the one who was so upset to lose him that I tried to kill myself you fuck. So next time you try to pull a motive out of your ass make sure you clean your butthole first.”

Fists curled by Venus' side. She was predictably unconvinced. "Oh. Sure," she teased, venomously sarcastic. "I'm supposed to just ignore all the times you literally threatened to kill him now that he's actually dead. And while I'm at it, I'll just blow off all of the times you've said he deserved to die because you thought he was a monster. And since I'm already doing that, I may as well pretend you’ve never threatened to kill even me for even looking at your husband the wrong way. No--you’re definitely not a man with his finger on the trigger at all times. And you certainly don’t have the means to find a fire-type if you need one with all the power you have as an Executive. I’m just being silly.”

A shaking came to her voice as her sarcasm shifted to outright accusatory. “You. Live. To ruin my life! First Lance. I could learn to live with you marrying Lance. But now you take away my Proton. And for what? WHAT did he do to you? The man WANTED to heal! YOU HAD NO RIGHT! And I don’t care if I die in the process.” A hand went to her belt, equipped, of course, with pink throwing knives. “I swear on every deity YOU ARE GOING DOWN WITH ME!”
