Thoughts on the Tragic Death of PINOF

Hey kiddos, today I want to share some thoughts on PINOF 10.

I don’t want to talk about the overwhelming sadness we all feel or about the new content coming to us in 2019. I want to talk about one interval of PINOF that we need to look to in this time.

Dan and Phil pass the whiskers to us.

Not just jokingly or for the sake of PINOF, they are handing the whiskers to us.

While they are off reevaluating their content and preparing for 2019 they called on us.

What did they pass to us?

1. Phil passed to us his ability to see positivity in every situation. To make our fellow community members feel included, loved, and happy in his place while we say goodbye to all the series we love.

2. Daniel passed to us his ability to understand and reach out to those who are struggling. This news has caused us all a lot of anxiety and those of us who look to them for happiness in times of depression, struggle, anxiety, or any other dark moment have felt a loss. Dan passed to us our own ability to reach out and help these people. Comfort them and maybe sit down on a Skype call and dawn your own whiskers for a bit?

3. Phan told us that it was our time. They’ve spent 10 years helping us and loving us and they will continue to do so for many more, but for December it’s our turn.

What does one do when you have whiskers passed on to you?

1. Spread positivity. Let your followers and friends know that they will be back with more amazing content.

2. Pay attention and reach out to those who are struggling. If someone on your feed or in your life expresses heart break over everything ending, reach out to them. Care for them.

3. If you are coping with this in an unhealthy way, reach out. To anyone. To me, to your favorite stan account, to your favorite Instagram phanpage admin. We are all ready to help you in any way we can.

This community is an overwhelmingly positive force that has helped so many people worldwide. We can continue to do that. We will continue to do that.

Have Phil’s courage. His joy. His willingness to help everyone he can.

Have Daniel’s strength. His calm. His willingness to persist even if he needs help.

Our time has come.

We have earned our whiskers.

Use them.

A Daniel Rant

Okay so like I know the whole “wow Dan actually did only post 4 vids a year” is like a meme and it’s fun and I’m not knocking it. I just want to take a moment and appreciate that Dan only made four videos this year because he wants to be authentic and feels wrong trying to play the algorithm. Like he’s just being genuine and choosing quality over quantity and that’s really cool and rant over. Thanks for coming to my ted talk.

For everyone’s information:

The plan for the 17th, when the adult content ban comes in, is to protest.

To do that, we are making as much noise either side of the 17th as possible, and using the site as normal.

On the 17th, dead silence.

People are saying log off but what they really mean is don’t open the site or the app.

But, on the 17th make as much noise as possible on every other platform. Tweet about it and post on facebook and instagram and everywhere else.

What this does is causes a massive dip in ad revenue for one single day. That does not make staff think ‘oh everyone’s gone let’s shut down.’ What it actually makes them think is ‘oh shit people aren’t happy and if people don’t keep using our site we’re out of money and out of jobs.’

A boycott reminds a company that the users (consumers) have the power to make their site (business) worthless with one single coordinated decision.

If you want to join in, here’s what to do:

Do:

Close all open instances of the app and site on all your devices before the 17th

Make posts before and after the 17th on tumblr and other platforms, talking about why this ban is bad

Make posts on other sites during the 17th. Flood the official tumblr staff twitter and facebook with your anger and your opinion

Come back on the 18th and check in

Don’t:

Delete the app from your phone (this doesn’t affect their revenue and since it’s off the store at the moment it’ll be hard to get back)

Delete your account. I mean you can if you want to, but if you keep your account and don’t use it you’re saying to staff that there’s still time to save it. If you delete it’s hard work to come back.

Open the app or website (including specific blogs)

Make any posts (turn down/off your queue and make sure nothing is scheduled)

Go quiet elsewhere. Make it clear that this is just about tumblr, not a mass move away from all social media.

Remember: the execs don’t care about anything but money. Shutting down the site means there’s $0 further income from it. That’s their last possible course of action. If we make it clear we’re not happy, they’ll have to do something or we can do more and more until it becomes too expensive.

Protests take commitment. They’re a defiant action against a business that is doing something wrong. They will try to scare you into not participating, because they’re scared. We hold all the power here, sometimes the execs just need to be reminded of that.
