can wales use magic to turn into a dragon

Hmm good question 🤔. While I do generally think that my portrayal of Wales can use magic, along with his brothers, I've never really thought about what that looks like or shown it in any of my fics. Magic systems are at their best when there are clear understandings of how and why things work, so if I ever went there, I would want to have a plan for sure.

I like the idea of a general shape-shifting skill, but I wouldn't limit it to just dragons, I don't think. That way I could leave things open for other characters to turn into other things. I also think turning into a dragon would be quite draining for him, despite being a very experienced magic user.

BUT the potential for a fic based on St. George slaying the dragon featuring Wales as the dragon certainly has very strong angsty potential.

I also love the idea of giving him a little red dragon as a sidekick, sort of like flying mint bunny, gilbird, Pierre, etc.

what are your top three wales headcanons ?

ohhhhh boy three you say? Here is twenty in a trenchcoat.

He tends to spend a lot of time by himself, lost in his own head. He takes a lot of walks on the beach, in the woods, in fields and such, just thinking and foraging for trinkets and mushrooms and wild leeks and such. It is not uncommon for him to just disappear for several days at a time and just sleep under the stars. At the same time, he can get too lost mentally so he prefers to live with at least one of his brothers, usually England so that he has someone to draw him out of it. England isn't aware that Wales relies on him for this, he is just generally pretty needy and provides a good distraction. They fill the deficits in each other's functioning capabilities after living together for so long.

He is very active and strong physically. He is built like a rugby player and a sheep farmer and he is good at both of these things. He used to be a shepherd when he was off on his own but he likes other animals too. In my head cannon, England owns a large country house, where Wales typically lives too, and they keep lots of heritage livestock for their own use and enjoyment including horses, sheep, cows, pigs, ducks, a rare goose or two and whatever else sparks their fancy. He goes out to see the animals when he gets a chance, and has a pony that he takes on rides around. (They have herdsman and other service staff that actually take care of the animals in my hc)

He has always wanted children of his own, but has never had the chance. He adores his nieces and nephews, and was emotionally available for them in a way England never could be, but he never got to have the final say in any of their upbringings. He would read and sing to them as children, even making up little poems for them sometimes.
