I’ve literally been thinking about this for SO LONG! Imagine the INTRIGUE! The COMEDY!
Link is in the final battle against Kohga, and his foe summons a large mechanical Zonai mech. Nothing Link can’t handle, of course, but this is getting on his nerves.
“This time, I’ll bury-huh?”
Kohga is cut off by an echoey voice saying a name that Link doesn’t quite recognize. Now, Link doesn’t recognize it, but Kohga seems to. Oh, great, is the next sage a Yiga of all things? When he’d learned there was a Sheikah sage to awaken, he’d thought of Purah or Robbie or even Josha. Why couldn’t it have been one of them? He looks around, but Kohga’s lackey’s are nowhere to be seen.
The Top Banana himself, meanwhile, is still perched atop that Zonai construct, yelling at the air. He seems
no, not just angry, upset. He’s clutching at his mask, and at the hood covering his head, telling the ancient sage’s voice to stop saying that because it has no right to say that name. And then-
“THAT’S NOT MY NAME ANYMORE! I’M KOHGA! I’M KOHGA!”
And Link just thinks: Oh. Oh no.
As I was falling asleep I had this idea like
imagine Tears of the Kingdom had an ancient Sheikah sage of shadow, and the game throws you a red herring to make you think the modern sage/descendent will be Paya (the obvious choice) but you get there and surprise! It’s Kohga

I’ve got three theories, ranked from least to most likely in my opinion.
3. It was just a Zonai capsule. Makes a bit of sense, but it doesn’t really serve any purpose, nor does it make sense that he couldn’t open it.
2. It was one of the battery Zonai devices. Makes more sense why he couldn’t open it, those aren’t really meant to be opened, but they’re just common Zonai devices. It wouldn’t make sense (in a literary, storytelling sense) for him to feel like it was important.
1. It was one of the bulbs of the Zonai energy cells.
Tumblr media
This is the one that makes the most sense to me. Each bulb has a bottle-like shape but isn’t meant to be opened, as it’s not actually a container but rather a series of rings stacked tightly together, and Kohga having one or more of them would explain why he’s able to use Zonai devices that don’t have the battery devices attached.
please correct me if i’m wrong but. in kohga’s voice memories early on he finds a bottle with a glowing green light in it and he keeps it. but then it’s not mentioned in the actual game or in any other voice note? what was that supposed to be????

This disability pride month I'm BEGGING you to acknowledge and care about the people in this community who often fly under the radar when it comes to positivity and information. People who require equipment to live, like ventilators, pacemakers, and feeding tubes. People who are bedbound. People with visible differences. People who have disabilities caused by things like substance abuse, overdose, or self harm. People with conditions so rare that they've never met someone who has the same one. People who need full time care and have to have help to use social media.
If you want to support the community, that means supporting all of the community. Disability pride means being proud of every last one of us, and making sure everyone feels heard. Make sure to amplify the voices of those who need it this month, and ideally for the rest of the year too.

And autistic people who have interests/habits/support needs/tendencies that are traditionally considered childish still shouldn’t be infantilized, nor should we be told that we’re ’too stereotypical’ or ‘bad examples of autism’! The issue is the infantilization, not my freaking plushies collection!
Another thing. I've seen ppl infantilize autism and. Just. Don't fucking do that. I shouldn't even have to explain why you shouldn't fucking do that. Autistic ppl are not inherently childish please do not treat us as such

a while ago i attended this lecture on autism. guy in the audience said he had many of the symptoms that were presented and asked what should he do to get treatment and possibly a diagnosis. instead of answering his question the psychologist went on a tangent about how “the clinic reigns all powerful over guesswork”, and how actually it has become a trend amongst little children on the internet to claim that they are autistic for cool points, and that this hurts real autistic people. no she didn’t tell him how to get his symptoms looked into, she just made it very clear that to her, aknowledging your own symptoms is bad and evil and hurts the poor real mentally ill people.
an ex-friend of mine, then a psychology major and by now probably a full psychologist, once lectured me on how horrible and bad it was that i told her “i probably have some sort of neurodivergency”, and that if i were her patient she would never give me a diagnosis because “you aren’t like this now, but i know that if you get a diagnosis you’ll use it as an excuse to start treating people badly. that’s just how mentally ill people are.”
same ex-friend was extremely disgusted when she found out that fans sometimes make neurodivergency headcanons for characters that have the same symptoms as they do, and that authors sometimes write books with neurodivergent protagonists in stories that don’t focus on that (ex: she seemed horrified that percy jackson has adhd?)
multiple psychologists i’ve seen on facebook agree that they should refuse to treat patients that say “i’m here because i have symptoms of a disorder and wonder if i have it”, and that a patient should arrive to a psychologist as a blank slate.
school psychologist asked me how i was feeling about my trauma situation and i told him i thought my friends would leave me. instead of addressing the issue he said that that no i didn’t, that i was lying, that i had searched “bpd symptoms” online and now i was faking symptoms because i wanted to have bpd, that he shouldn’t have told me he suspected i had a personality disorder because now look what was happening. no, i didn’t search bpd symptoms online. yes, my friends left me, it was a completely founded belief and not a symptom, let alone a faked symptom.
so the next time you hear someone saying they’re “anti self-diagnosis” i want you to understand what they’re saying. what they’re saying is:
- i don’t want people to be aware of their own symptoms
- i don’t think my patients should have access to any information that doesn’t come from me
- i don’t think neurodivergent people should learn how to cope with their symptoms and live “normal” lives
- i think neurodivergent people should be denied a diagnosis because the moment they get one they will become evil and dangerous
- i don’t think people who don’t look like a stereotype could possibly be neurodivergent, even if they have all the symptoms, so i think they are faking it for attention and should be denied treatment

Second disability pride month drawing! This one represents the green stripe of the flag, which itself symbolizes people with sensory disabilities such as blindness, deafness, audio processing disorder, and all other sensory disabilities! Robbie’s specific condition in this HC is called Retinitis Pigmentosa, and I’ll have a video and website page linked below explaining it (because blindness in fiction and in general seems to be widely misunderstood)!
Tumblr media
youtube
(video by person with Retinitis Pigmentosa and his husband (they wrote a cute gay penguins book too); visual simulation begins at 6:00)
And now that you hopefully know a bit more about this condition and blindness in general, to the headcanons!
Robbie has had issues with his eyes since he was very young.
He couldn’t see through his peripheral vision, and dimly lit spaces were very hard to see in.
Fortunately, his parents were very supportive. His mother had the same condition as him, and she taught him skills such as reading braille and navigating areas without relying on sight.
It was initially difficult for him to deal with the idea of losing such a major sense, but having his mother as an example that he could still live a fulfilling life made the process of grieving easier and allowed him to focus more on finding strategies and accommodations that worked for him.
As he got older, his eyesight worsened. By the time of the Calamity, he could only see through a small part of his central vision. The rest of it was static and the occasional flash of light and color.
His goggles are actually an assistive device that he and Purah worked together to make.
The first model was a relative failure; the ban on Sheikah technology had only recently be lifted and the two still had much to learn about the capabilities it had. The features they tried to implement simply didn’t work.
He still kept the goggles, though. Not only did he want to keep the initial design handy so that he could improve it, but they also served a very important purpose: blocking light from his light-sensitive eyes.
The second model, made while Link was in the Shrine of Resurrection, was a success!
Aside from the initial features he’d wanted to add, those being telescopic lenses and night vision, he was also able to take inspiration from the eye structure of chameleons. This enabled him to create a device that widely expands how far and how quickly his small field of vision can move in all directions.
It’s not necessarily easy being a scientist and inventor when you can barely see what you’re working on, but that’s what a support system is for!
Aside from his parents, Purah has always been his biggest supporter. They’re very close despite how often they butt heads.
Of course, he also has his wife, Jerrin, and his son, Granté.
GrantĂ© doesn’t visit much, being busy with traveling the land of Hyrule, but he writes often, and his letters are always in braille.
Jerrin, meanwhile, does things that Robbie can’t quite do safely or without immense effort. Cooking, cleaning, and translating books and documents into braille are all things she enjoys doing for him.
She also makes sure he doesn’t spend all night working and give himself a migraine, because that’s happened. Multiple times. He always regrets it and yet he keeps doing it because DANGIT THE SPIRIT OF SCIENTIFIC EXPRESSION WILL NOT BE SUPPRESSED
And then there’s Josha.
While Robbie prefers to be the one showing her support, as she’s a child and shouldn’t have the weight of an adult’s mental wellbeing on her shoulders, her enthusiasm and curiosity are very uplifting.
She’s not afraid to ask questions about or discuss his disability, even when many adults in the vicinity try to shush her and get her to be more ‘polite’. Robbie finds it refreshing.
And when Josha asked, or rather demanded, that Robbie teach her to read braille?
His first reaction: “HECK YEAH LET ME GRAB SOME OF MY BOOKS”
His second reaction: “Oh, Purah is going to be so jealous that I’ve stolen her apprentice >:3”
(Purah didn’t care, she just chuckled and asked Jerrin to teach her how to make her famous wildberry brownies. You steal her apprentice, Robbie, she’s gonna steal your wife (platonically).)

He proceeded to not sleep for another twelve hours, at which point he passed out in that exact spot and Sooga snuck in to hide the Sheikah Yiga Slate.
I feel like the Yiga Clan are so stabby because they lack enrichment in their enclosure. Have we tried giving them Minecraft? I bet Kohga would like Minecraft.

This month is Disability Awareness Month (at least where I live it is), so I thought I’d do a little project related to the Disability Pride Flag created by Ann Magill. For those who don’t know, the flag has different stripes representing different types of disabilities. The idea is to represent each stripe with a specific disabled Zelda character, with both a cute, happy drawing and headcanons about their coping mechanisms, experiences, and support system. Today’s character is the main girl herself, Zelda (specifically Wild Era Zelda), representing the blue stripe (emotional/psychiatric disabilities, PTSD in this case).
Tumblr media
TW for implied pseudo-suicidal thought/attempt (sort of?????? im referring to the draconification thing but in exploring her PTSD and psychology I came to a Realization)
When Zelda finally emerged from Hyrule Castle, free for the first time in a hundred years (really, for the first time since she was a small child), she expected to feel relieved. Happy. Safe.
But a silent dread followed her. As they traveled to Link’s home in Hateno, the safest place they could think of for her to recover from her century-long ordeal, she found herself looking over her shoulder at the castle. Each time, she convinced herself that she would once again see the malice rising above the spires.
Though the sight never came to pass, she couldn’t stop her mind from racing. Her heart from pounding. She felt ill whenever she looked back.
Even when they got to the safety of Hateno, it didn’t stop. She was constantly anxious, and even sleep often brought terrifying, nonsensical dreams rather than respite. Hoping for a cure, she went to Purah.
Hypervigilance, Purah called it. A phenomenon well-documented by the Sheikah, who saw many cases of it both in service to the kingdom and after their banishment 10,000 years ago.
When a person was in danger, their body and mind would act accordingly. They would become alert and ready to defend themselves from danger. However, there would be occasions where the body and mind didn’t exactly get the memo that the danger had passed. This would result in hypervigilance, as well as other side effects.
Zelda was relieved to receive an answer, but it didn’t cure her. According to Purah, nothing could truly do that, though symptoms could be managed. Socialization, forming bonds, and working to improve responses to triggers would be difficult but key to the process.
And it was difficult. She felt anxious and exposed while outside. Anything that sparked a memory of her fallen Champions risked causing tears of guilt and grief, even if the object or phrase had been fine the day before.
But, as she ventured out of her comfort zone, going a bit further each time, she found that the kingdom she’d kept safe for so long was ready and willing to keep her safe. To support her by any means necessary.
And her most constant supporter, of course, was Link.
The ever-loyal, now not quite as silent knight was always by her side, ready to help at a moment’s notice.
Upon her waking in a cold sweat, he would have wildberry tea ready within minutes. When she was stuck in her own racing thoughts, his humorous anecdotes about his various travels would calm her down enough to put words to her anxieties. When they’d first arrived in Hateno, he’d even demanded of Mayor Reede that Zelda’s presence in the village be kept secret to all but those she decided to reveal herself to.
They’re the things that helped me, y’know? he signed after Zelda finally asked. Some food from someone who really cared, a funny story to get my mind off of things, no pressure of people knowing who I’m supposed to be
it’s all just
nice.
As time went on, Zelda started to feel better. Not fully recovered, no, but there was certainly improvement. She learned for the most part what triggered her anxiety or flashbacks (though there were always some that she couldn’t quite predict). She found herself laughing and joking with many people, just as she’d laughed and joked with Impa and Purah and the Champions so many decades ago. Although Link still accompanied her on her travels, ever the dutiful knight, she didn’t need him constantly at her side in order to feel safe.
Of course, there was quite a large relapse when she returned from the era of Ancient Hyrule.
The sight of Sonia being killed, of Rauru giving up his life, of Mineru deteriorating from the gloom and malice consuming her body
it was all too similar to the Calamity.
(she’s only admitted this to Link and Impa, but looking back on it, she sees now that the grief and guilt those moments brought were a large part of why she was willing to Draconify herself)
But, she knew that things would improve. There would be difficult days, yes, but also days where life felt almost like it did before everything began. With the love and support she and Link had from their friends and from each other, the scars might never fade, but the wounds would heal.
For coping mechanisms, Zelda has quite a few.
Acts of service are her favorite. It provides the connection that she’s learned is so important, it makes life easier for those she’s helping, and it acts as a distraction when she can’t bring herself to confront her own thoughts.
She also tends to throw herself into writings. Whether it be old journals, professionally written novels, or even ancient records regarding technology, Link will often find her surrounded by them on bad days.
And exploration, of course. While she still often finds herself on edge when Link wanders too far, she’s found that nothing helps distract her like the beauty of the land of Hyrule.
But distractions are a temporary fix, not a permanent one, and she knows this. When she feels she’s ready, she vents her frustrations or anxieties as soon as her friends are ready.
And she has a lot of friends ready to support her! Riju, Sidon, Yunobo, Impa, Purah, Robbie and Link are all there for her, not to mention the many others who don’t know the specifics but respect and care for her needs!
All in all I’m proud of my girl. It’s not easy, but she’s doing well.

*climbs up onto roof*
*clears throat*
RAURU AND SONIA WOULD BE WAY MORE INTERESTING AND COMPELLING CHARACTERS IF TEARS OF THE KINGDOM EXPLORED THE IMPERIALIST IMPLICATIONS OF THE KINGDOM OF HYRULE.
I mean, come on. They’re the rulers of the kingdom itself. Depending on what placement you think the Wild Era has on the timeline, either their descendants or both their predecessors and descendants have done some really awful things. Rauru and Sonia themselves subjugated the Zora, Rito, and Gorons, and it’s literally said in game that Rauru sent repeated “invitations” to Ganondorf to “invite” the Gerudo into the “protective embrace” of the kingdom of Hyrule. Not to mention the fact that we never see the ancient sages without their masks, which idk it gives me a sort of weird ‘we are not worthy to show our faces to the god-king goatman’ ‘our individuality does not matter in the face of our divinely-appointed sovereigns’ vibes.
Seriously, imagine Zelda being sent back in time and immediately being greeted by these two sweet, loving people who absolutely dote on her and give her the parental love she desperately wanted as a child. But then the cracks start to show. While they’re still sweet and loving towards her, they’re also prideful. While they look upon their kingdom with love and joy, they still look down upon it. The sages seem to grow quieter when they walk into the room and, though Zelda can’t see it under the mask, their eyes flicker with fear towards the magic nuke rocks the royals just wear around the secret stones. Both Rauru and Sonia treat the Sheikah the same way they treat the constructs; interesting little creatures, but ultimately things meant to serve them. Zelda, while hanging out with Mineru, finds some records that describe many horrible things that the past royals have done. An ancient temple taken and used as a torture dungeon in a time of war. A Gerudo site, used to execute the leader of the people who created it. So many wars, so many deaths. But Mineru dismisses them as baseless legends. “Do you really think your ancestors would do something that bad?” she asks.
Zelda pauses, then gives an uneasy smile.
“No.”

I’ve been thinking a lot about the medics of the Yiga Clan (they have to exist, these guys get beaten up by Link all the time), and since they’re featured pretty heavily in the next chapter of my fanfic, I decided to draw a couple of them! So
here’s Lead Medic Akane and her favorite subordinate, Tarrin.
Tumblr media
Akane is an unusual medic and honestly an unusual Yiga in general. She wasn’t born into the Yiga Clan, she was a hired assassin/monster hunter who joined up for better resources. She spent years as a blademaster, one of the best in the Clan, until an accident left her with a permanently messed up leg (hence the walking stick, which she is 100% willing to smack people with). She expected to be left to die because she ‘wasn’t useful anymore’, but was shocked to learn that she????? Didn’t HAVE to be useful?????? And the leader of the Yiga Clan was fine with that????? While she was recovering from her injury in the infirmary, her quick thinking and knowledge of impromptu injury treatment (learned through years of solo assassin work) saved the life of a fellow blademaster, and Master Kohga suggested that she act as a Lead Medic to teach the younger medics how to better work under pressure. She doesn’t normally actively work as a medic, as her personality is much too abrasive and rough for that, but learning and working under her as a medic is a very rewarding experience. She also has immense loyalty and protectiveness towards Master Kohga, and she definitely behaves more like a loyal blademaster awaiting her next commands when speaking with him.
Tumblr media
Tarrin is Akane’s favorite subordinate, and a very skilled medic in her own right. While she’s certainly firm in her approach and constantly irritated by people getting themselves injured in dumb ways, she definitely has a better bedside manner than her mentor. She and Akane get along well, as they share the same no-nonsense “oh Ganon I’m surrounded by idiots” attitude. If Tarrin had the opportunity, she would go out and kill Link herself. Not for any pro-Ganon reasons (though she certainly follows Ganon), but because her workload has increased threefold since Link emerged from the Shrine of Resurrection and hasn’t slowed down even after literal years.
