“I practice yoga because it is the first and only thing I've found that has given me the space to see myself as I am.”
We all come to the mat for different reasons. Some initially come to the mat for a workout - and that’s fine. Some people initially come to the mat because it’s “spiritually correct” - and that’s fine, too.
My thought is, whatever first brings a person to the mat is completely unique to each individual. And, whatever that ‘thing’ is, will probably change over time. I believe yoga is a deeply personal practice - and we all get out of it what we need at any one time.

He’s back...and I’m SO excited!
A few years ago, I had the chance to do a 2-day workshop with this extraordinary yoga dude. I just found out that he’s coming back to Melbourne in March! He’s offering a public class on Saturday, 5 March - an Introduction to Tricara Yoga. http://rossrayburn.com/rr/event/asana-masterclass/
So, “What is Tricara Yoga”, you might ask.  Well, Tricara Yoga is a hatha yoga system developed by Ross that emphasises awareness, alignment and movement. It is based on a philosophy that we all have the power and the tools within to thrive. Discovering that power and finding those tools, however, can be challenging. Thus in yoga and in life it helps to have a map.
I understand that spots are filling up fast. To find our more, reach out to the Yoga Lab in East Brunswick (Melbourne).
I’m so excited to learn new things!
Seriously, the more I learn about yoga, the more I realise there’s so much to learn...I am thrilled at how yoga continues to pique my curiosity!

A live music manifestation...
For 15+ years I’ve enjoyed the music of Deva Premal and Miten via CD (yes, on my Sony Walkman...) and more recently through iTunes. I can remember doing yoga by candlelight in my house in Winnipeg with Deva singing in the background. I just love live music so I’d dream about how wonderful it would be to actually be in the presence of this music being played. Never really thought it would happen, but it did, last night at the Melbourne Recital Centre. A most welcome manifestation!

Celebration of dharma
I learned something new: ‘Bali’ is Sanskrit for ‘inner power’. I did not know this...here’s an interesting read about Galungan - now being celebrated in Bali.

The Four Fold Way...
This work inspired me to write a series of Hatha yoga classes around. It took me more than a year to put the series together, but it’s been really landed with my students. Over five classes, we explore the archetypes through asana (poses), meditation and reflection questions. I have such appreciation for the contributions made by Dr. Arrien!

More about Cameron...
I’ve had the distinct pleasure of spending time with Cameron - learning from her in workshops and through TCM treatments. It was Cameron who opened my mind to Angeles Arrien’s work, The Fourfold Way, which has had a significant impact on me - thanks Cameron! http://www.camerontukapua.com/blog/

Following my curiosity...
Tumblr media
Following my curiosity has provided me with a life that I never expected. Rather than pursuing a very defined career goal, I’ve followed the work that has piqued my curiosity and it sure has led me to some interesting places and positioned me to meet extraordinary people.
One of my greatest curiosities is yoga. Yoga has been a part of my life - off and on - for (dare I say?), decades. A few years back I was curious enough to pursue a teaching certification in my new hometown, Melbourne, Australia.
The more that I learn the more I realise there’s so much more to know. Yoga - studying, teaching and figuring how to genuinely integrate my interpretation of yogic philosophies and principles in my life - really scratches my curiosity ‘itch. Thanks for joining my scratchings :)
