Fairytales on Ice?

Have you ever thought how different practice will be for Yuuri in Russia? In Hasetsu he was completely alone with Victor, occasionally the Nishigori family watched the training, but overall, practice was just between the two of them, really private and intimate.

And while Yuuri already trained with others together in Detroit, I think now in Russia it will be a whole nother level, especially because it will be completely opposite to Hasetsu with all the other skaters present.

Yurio will yell at him and Victor lot, Yakov will probably yell at them a lot too, Mila will tease them, and Georgi will marvel at their beautiful love. Clearly, it’s going to be chaotic.

I’m looking forward to see that in a second season.

Victuuri Headcanon #9

Even though he’s not the official coach, when Yuuri trains in Russia Yakov still gives Yuuri advice and pointers what he should practice next every once in a while. And whenever Victor is close enough to overhear the given advice, he will repeat it to Yuuri word for word a short time later. Yuuri is confused about that and asks Victor why he repeats everything that Yakov says. Turns out, Victor insists on being the one who tells Yuuri because he is Yuuri’s coach after all.

(Although sometimes, Victor is tempted to give Yuuri the exact opposite advice in defiance, but he knows that Yakov is a great coach so he refrains from it.)

This is probably a strange question, but do you know why everybody was speaking French in Barcelona during the GPF? Like 'merci~' and 'allez!' and so on, and not Spanish? Maybe I'm just being nitpicky lol

First of all, your question is not weird at alland I’m sorry I took so long to answeryour ask. I was completely inactive the last two weeks because of Christmas anda cold I caught right after. 

The reason behind the French in the last episode is this man, Stéphane Lambiel:

He’s a former figure skater from the French speakingpart of Switzerland, hence he speaks French. And in episode 12 he has a cameo as a guest reporter for aJapanese TV Channel. Every time he speaks, you can clearly see that there are Japanese subtitles in red for all the Japanese viewers.

Okay, but is this a meat on the bone plushie at the top? I can’t believe such a thing actually exists. Who even wants to cuddle with meat?

Well, Yuuri I guess, because he actually picked it up after his performance.

I don’t know why - maybe I’m just too used to his ponytail - but somehow Celestino with loose hair really crackes me up.

not bad but not great

I know a lot of people are really loving the last episode esp since they finally showed the long awaited pair skate but tbh I’m not really impressed. Not to say it was a bad episode especially keeping the plot open for a second season but the ending just feels kind of… sloppy? 

The show has been really good in getting their point across in minimal screen time but I think people had their doubts about wrapping up this complex and heartfelt story in just 20 some odd minutes. Previous episodes did pretty well in typing up ends where needed but I don’t think the final episode fulfilled that role. Something felt off and I’d even go as far as saying it probably was thrown together for the likely introduction to season 2. 

While it hasn’t been confirmed, the last episode pretty much answered it with little ambiguity. I think the creators had an alternative ending if it turned out to be a one season show. I found the ending pretty unsatisfying in how it just started bombarding the viewers with highly emotional scenes/situations to give it that ~final episode~ atmosphere. There wasn’t enough time to build up the scene so all those tears from… well everyone just felt disjointed. 

This next parts just my personal take on how things ended for the plot/characters so fight me if you must: 

I don’t like that Yurio won gold, it does nothing for his character arc considering how early episodes pointed out that he was teetering on cocky. This is JJ 2.0 in the making, and I’m talking before JJ’s character was humanized by his failure. I did like that Yurio took an interest in Yuri the previous year, the bathroom scene in ep 1 would’ve been pretty random otherwise. 

JJ’s character is a little more in depth and I find it easier to empathize with him (also dat cartman outfit on baby JJ) but what the ever loving fuck was he doing with bronze after everything?? Did the creators just pick a name out of a hat or something? 

I really wanted Yuri to win gold. I think he deserves it and it would be emotionally satisfying to watch esp after all the times Yuri let his anxiety seep through his thoughts. Maybe just once things go perfectly, it’s a moment to anchor yourself to. 

So Viktor is going to be competing AND coaching presumably. Okay I’ll keep an open mind but his sudden come back felt wrong. The whole time we are shown that Viktor had professional relationship with skating, he explicitly states that it was separate from life and love. His intentions behind this come back are still murky but I’ll keep my mouth shut until season 2. 

in regards to his relationship with Yuri, I didn’t really like how it was handled after how daring the show has been already. Sure the pair skating was pretty but after everything, it was a performance. I would have liked to hear more of their conversation in the hotel room, their emotional vulnerability was so stark and Yuri still hasn’t been completely honest about why he wanted for Viktor to go back to competing. It was a pretty heavy scene but the episode just cut away abruptly. Oh well, at least we got to see Viktor cry. 

I think if the plot had to resolve in one season, the last episode would have Yuri winning gold, marrying Viktor and moving to happily ever land preferably next to a skating rink. But in this version, I think they keep flashing those engagement rings to console us. 

Overall, I’m a bit disappointed with this grand finale. I’m tempted to say I would prefer just the one season as a stand alone masterpiece but will reserve the judgement once I see some new content. 

Now to wait for the meta! Maybe those more observant than me could answer some of the point above.
