It’s fun looking at this image and thinking that there was something growing inside me that was trying to get out. Teeth clenched and muscles tightened, the energy was strong and I wasn’t gonna hold it in much longer. Let it go, let it out, keep it moving, keep on living. Oh and there’s a seal looking animal I see just above what looks like some teeth. Just chilling there. 🦭😎 The second image is me in sequoia park back at the end of 2018. I went for 3 weeks for a job I was working on and everyday I would go on hikes. I was by myself and every once in a while I’d find a cool photo opportunity and I would set up my phone with the timer and run over and strike a ill pose, do one of those jadakiss laughs, and see how it turned out…Not too shabby. Looking at these pages, trying to revisit the moments, I mostly remember feeling separated from my body and more connected with my spiritual being while I was creating these, like I was in a meditative state. As I turned the page, it was like I turned my drawing inside out…I had never imagined looking at a drawing that way. It was an interesting perspective. Twisted. Hey, I’ll just keep riding this wave of working with what the universe was giving me. All of the connectedness that I was creating on the pages without realizing was pretty wild. The colors came through and pretty much set me up for what I would end up conjuring up on the next page here. They also bled through and altered what I had previously done on the first page. Typically this would probably have been unfavorable to me and I would have thought I done fkd up my work on the previous page, but I decided to let it happen and keep with the flow I was getting myself into. I was almost getting back into doing some sort of a character, and instead I let it grow out as I brought the colors to the pages. This is when I let loose some more and somehow just started seeing all of it go into all the right places. Second page and I’m still searching for an idea, looking for some inspiration, and reaching into an old bag of tricks. The first page of a new sketchbook, a new journal, a new chapter in life…all of this was happening right here. I admit, I had no idea what I was going to do with this book when I started it out. I was just going to treat it like any other and draw in it. I had just done something different stylistically right before this, which was doing a piece only in color (there’s a progress shot of that piece in this post. I will try to find a finished version). Folklore has it that once in a while back then, I would make an attempt to add some color to a drawing, but I was always worried I would ruin the piece, so I mostly did everything in good ol’ b&w. Inspired by my creation, I went ahead and continued riding this new wave I hopped on. I had accumulated lots of colorful art supplies and finally got around to putting them to use.
