parental tenna is fine but i love “parentified eldest child” interpretations. tenna would not be a good parent imo he is falling apart at the seams. he is doing what he thinks is best for everybody but he just Doesnt Know these things. he shouldnt be the one doing this.

deltarune fandom can be truly incredible sometimes. back in the onceler and “every non-human character drawn as a skinny guy in a suit” years, i dont think anybody could have ever even dreamed of how spamton fans are. you dont date this popular character you take him home and either microwave him to watch him explode or feed him cardboard while he tries to bite you. no beautifying. no prettying. that is a scam artist living in a dumpster selling you poison and half of the fandom draws him looking like a mange ridden geriatric chihuahua. that description is a compliment btw.

I was fighting for my life to figure out this sort of perspective for Juno, because it would really emphasize how towering he is. Now that I got something that's not too botched, I threw in a line and made the context worse (not for me, but maybe for someone else).

This is assuming Volnutt is still fine after all the physical (and mental) shock. Or I guess, Juno could be talking to him indirectly. He did say there would be a need for a backup of his memory... for some reason.

now im just thinkin about. au where spamton does go back and explain things to tenna properly. even if its shameful to admit he could only be successful with somebody elses help. because he really really needs help now. get a job from tenna, maybe, and try to get back in his feet, maybe even find a new calling.

so after going through all the dialogue again, i think ive fully built my take on the spamtenna fall out situationship. this is purely my own reading and not like. a definitive Argument on what went down.

its clear they both went into this as a business agreement originally. you scratch my back, i scratch yours. tenna helps spamton with the way he presents himself and his public image, spamton shares his secret to success. however, it clearly grew over time, and the two genuinely grew close, at least enough to consider each other friends. perhaps due to this, spamton eventually relented to tell tenna how he was so successful.

now, we actually dont have the whole story on what happens next. spamton never shared his side of what happened that day, only the aftermath, so we only have tennas version to go off of. that being said, i think its enough to get a grasp on things. spamton gets a call, suddenly, and steps away to take it. after a brief moment, he turns visibly pale and runs off. tenna, criticially, does not go after him. he goes for the phone instead, but finds nobody on the other side. spamton never comes back.

it can be very difficult to get a feel for spamtons thoughts. hes a very unreliable narrator, and obviously not stable at even the best of times, but i think the scene in chapter 3 where they reunite does shed a lot of light on what spamton felt. he was surprised that tenna cared about him enough to keep a memento. and i think this is related to tenna not coming after him.

spamton ran off in distress and tenna didnt come after him to see if he was okay. in spamtons mind, this indicated that it was only ever business between them; based on his reaction to finding out tenna kept a pipis, he thought tenna didnt actually care at all.

(this is purely guessing, but based on how he blames tenna for his downfall, its possible that was the call where his benefactor cut him off, possibly because he was going to tell tenna. again, this is purely guessing.)

however, spamton didnt come back to ask, to be honest and straightforward with tenna. he just assumed the worst and ghosted him, and in turn tenna was left to feel as though spamton had only ever wanted to scam him.

neither of them were right here. spamton was unwilling to be direct with tenna, and just stopped talking to him entirely. its perfectly natural for tenna to suspect spamton had planned to rip him off. that being said, tenna not going after spamton was Not Great either, but i also dont blame him for not realizing that one moment could screw things up.

afterwards, spamton went all in on his bitterness. he spitefully wished for tennas death or downfall as yet another person who had betrayed and abandoned him. tenna tried to repress it, keeping a memento from spamton but hiding it and notably never referring to spamton by name (only referring to him as the “mailman”), but he also on some level blames spamton for his own struggles, as seen during his break down.

their relationship fell apart because. well firstly do not ever mix business and personal relationships that is just a recipe for disaster jesus christ. but mainly because of a complete lack of communication, a series of assumptions, and intentional withholding of information. 🔥toxic yaoi🔥

really funny to me that spamton and tenna have completely opposite yet equally unhealthy ways of handling the breakup. spamton will shittalk tenna until the heat death of the universe meanwhile tenna went "okay time to repress everything until i have a code nuclear meltdown that potentially ends in my death"
