Creasters

If you’ve grown up in the Church, you’ve probably heard the term “Creasters.”

If you haven’t heard the term, Creasters are people who only come to church on Christmas and Easter and maybe a few other times throughout the year.

I personally love it when a church is full of people. It’s exciting that so many people want to come together for “the Reason for the Season.” Or maybe it’s a yearly tradition. Or perhaps you think there is some kind of reason for you to go and get something out of it. Maybe it’s an obligation you've made to make sure you take you & your family to church. For many, it’s something you’ve known your whole life and you are expected to be at church: Easter, Christmas, Wednesday nights, Sunday mornings, Sunday nights, gatherings, worship nights, bible studies, christmas parties…you get the picture.

If you are NOT a Creaster: As a Christian, don’t you dare look down on people that are visiting once or twice a year. You need realize it took them everything just to step into that church. If I don’t watch myself, I can easily begin to judge people too. So I’m preaching to the choir here. Make guest feel welcomed, wanted, and cared for. I know it’s hard to step out of your comfort zone, but at least introduce yourself, ask their NAME, and let them know you are glad they came! You may end up finding that they’ve been going to your church for 2 years…just  saying. We need to know the people sitting next to us. Introduce them to your pastor, invite them to lunch, and ask about their life.

If you ARE a Creaster: Know that even though we are terrible at expressing it, we as the Church, are so glad you are here! Know that we aren’t great at introducing ourselves and be sure to understand that not everyone at a church is going to act like a Christian. Know that you are welcome anytime! Seriously, if you enjoy a service on a special occasion, please come back the next week! There’s something about going to church that gives you a community of people that are going to encourage you, and may help you through life’s worst. If no one introduces themselves to you, introduce yourself. See how they respond and encourage them to introduce themselves to people more often. Know that church is not the ideal example of the gospel. It’s not even close. We are broken, messed up people, that try to be like Jesus. The only perfect example is Jesus. No preacher, choir director, worship leader, or pew-sitter can make you understand Jesus. It’s simply the Bible, God’s Word that will show you exactly who Jesus is, what He’s about, and explain that we are ALL sinners in need of someone to save us from our sin. Lastly, I am sorry that we “Christians” fail to represent the Jesus we speak about. He really is the Greatest.

Keep coming to church so we can get to know you all more. I love getting to know people and I’ll  do my best to introduce myself to you when you come. I’ll do my best to remember your name and ask about your life. Let’s be the people that the Bible already calls us to be.
