Prince Tea House - Flushing
Tumblr media
Date: January 1, 2019
I started off the new year by visiting my current boyfriend (let’s call him Escanor)! I told him to surprise me with a date idea and after eating some Malaysian food, he brought me to this super cute dessert shop. The interior designing is just, WOW! Although I would consider myself more of a tomboy, I really enjoyed the elegant style of the restaurant. They had chandeliers and some really nice English tea pots on display. The menu is pretty large, compared to Spot’s. Escanor said that they were most famous for their matcha mille crepe cake, but I was feeling more mango that day. So I got the mango mille crepe cake and he got the matcha mille crepe cake. I was really happy with my decision because the cake was pretty good. It had the perfect amount of cream and crepe ratio. I wasn’t overwhelmed by the cream, which has happened before at another cake shop. I tasted my boyfriend’s cake as well and it was pretty good too! I actually tasted the bitterness of the matcha! There were many other items on their menu and I look forward to trying them out upon my next visit!

Wowfulls
Tumblr media
Date: July 14, 2018
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Last Saturday, my boyfriend and I went on a unsuccessful food tour (we didn’t even get to the last two locations ‘cause we were so stuffed). The first place we went to was Wowfulls. It was a great start! The ice cream was great and their other flavors looked very interesting. I got the Velvet Love, while my boyfriend got...I got forgot sorry...But he had this really colorful ice cream and it tasted great (it was vanilla, but the color made me kind of sketchy of it at first). The egg waffles were the highlights though, they were the reason why I even went to Wowfulls. I grew up eating egg waffles, sold on the streets, while walking to church in Chinatown. I haven’t had a good one since I went to Hong Kong last year. I don’t usually like exploring out of traditional/”original” flavors, but their red velvet egg waffle looked really tempting. I regret nothing! It was amazing and I highly recommend trying the red velvet egg waffle, if you ever choose to visit!

New Format
Ok, so I realized that the post/reviews are freakin’ long. Also, I don’t really like the idea of reviewing food, nor am I good at it. So I decided that I won’t have a format because formats are boring and I want to make this blog feel more like a journal. So get ready for some bullet points and other weird comments and nonfunny stories. Alright, here we go!!!

Taiyaki NYC
Tumblr media
Background and Reason Why I’m Here: This is the second place I went to with my boyfriend. Originally I wanted to try another dessert place, but we were going to Soho (to shop obviously) and this place was convenient...unlike the place that I originally wanted to go to. Anyway, the shop was really crowded and tiny. I’m a little claustrophobic around people, so I was not having a lot of fun standing next to so many people. They didn’t really have a waiting area because of the small location, so my boyfriend and I just huddled by the pick-up. I excitedly waited for my Unicorn Taiyaki as I watched other people’s orders go by me and having them exclaim, “It’s really good!” That plus all the reviews got me really hyped and as I received my order, I quickly took it, took a picture, and then proceeded outside to try it.
Items Ordered: Unicorn Taiyaki - I was kinda disappointed by this item. The ice cream and taiyaki was really good, believe me. It just didn’t really live up to the hype surrounding it and also I was really mindblown. I do have to blame myself for building it up so much for myself. The presentation was amazing though! I was blown away by how cute my order was and I didn’t really want to eat it because of its amazing presentation. The ice cream was a nicely flavored strawberry and vanilla swirl. I really liken the sprinkles, just because of how cute and colorful they were. The horn and ears were made out of fondant(?) and I’m not personally big fan of fondant (or marshmallows) so I quickly ate that first with a large glob of ice cream. The warm taiyaki was really good and it wasn’t crispy (which is okay), but that matched well with the ice cream. I would give this item four stars because of its beautiful presentation and good combination of textures.
Final Impression: I like their taiyaki, but I don’t think it’s very special (and I know this is an unpopular opinion, but hey this is my blog). BUT I like to think that I am open-minded and I do not think that I could let one item determine my opinion of this dessert place. They have more taiyakis on their menu that I’m looking forward to trying before building my own, just so that I can figure out which ice cream flavor is my favorite. They also have black sesame ice cream and I really, really want to try just because I LOVE black sesame, so yea I would definitely come back again. For anyone who’s a fan of Asian desserts or ice cream, I would recommend trying this ice cream treat!

First Location: Spot Dessert Bar (Shoppe Location)
Tumblr media
Background and Reason Why I’m Here: I heard many great things about this place from the friend who provided me with The List  (whom I’m going to dub Kelsi from now on) and was excited to start off my list with this dessert bar. It is located in the basement shop of the building on St Marks Place. There’s a bigger location just down the street, but I didn’t know that until I already started eating. The main reason I came here was because I was on a date with my partner around the area (try Ippudo Ramen Shop!!! They make pretty bomb ramen!). When I walked in, I was already half-full and was originally going to only order two items from the menu. BUT the waiter had to tell me that getting a third item would save me $5 and being a typical Asian, I couldn’t miss that money-saving opportunity. So I ordered three things, plus a Thai bubble tea. Mind you, my SO and I were already half-full and Kelsi told me she was only able to eat one and a half by herself...on an empty stomach. Surprisingly, we finished everything, it was THAT good.
Items Ordered: Matcha Lava - Very pretty presentation and tastes amazing! It is one of the signature dishes and is a must-have. It is a chocolate lava cake with matcha mixed into the chocolatety center. Once I cut open the cake, the gooey inside flows out. For me personally, I thought the cake was too dense and overwhelmingly sweet. But then again, that’s because I lost majority of my sweet tooth senior year of high school.
Golden Toast (Favorite Item) - When I first saw this, I thought it looked like firm tofu and that was a major turn-off. But once I had a bite, it was my favorite. Served with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, and fresh-cut strawberries, the presentation was like the other three, simple and minimalist. The attention is not on the presentation, but on the taste. Both my SO and I agreed that this was our favorite. Plus, I really like desserts with a crispy outside and fluffy inside, the contrast in the textures just really gets me.
Big Orange - This is one of their seasonal items. I ate this last and I was full to the second ‘L’. Yet, I was able to finish it easily because of the chocolate mousse. If you like chocolate mousse, I would highly recommend this dessert as it’s essentially chocolate mousse with a layer of chocolate cake on the bottom. This was the cutest item on their menu and it had the best presentation of the three items I got.
Final Impression: It definitely lived up to the hype that Kelsi set up for me. I was blown away by the desserts as all three were very good. The little shoppe environment was very charming and the waitress was an amazing one-man team (someone please go help her >_<). The only two downsides to this location when compared to the location further down the street is that this location is small and doesn’t have a bathroom. Although it didn’t happen to me, there could be a possibility where you would have to wait for a table as there are only ~5 tables at this location. Despite those two negative points, I would still recommend and re-visit it once I’m done with the list or if they add something new to the menu!

Background/Reason Why I’m Here: This section provides some background information, obviously. It provides information about the person or persons I go to these places with as people you go with also determines your mood and impressions of the place. It also provides some of my first impressions of the dessert bar.
Items Ordered: This section will provide a basic description of the items I got and the underlined item is my favorite (I will explicitly state my favorite for the first post, mostly because I will forget). I will also provide my ratings of each item, as well as my recommendation(s).
Final Impressions: This section will provide my final impressions of this location, duh. I’m really bad at reviewing places, so I will try to be as clear as possible (why am I even food blogging if I can’t review for my life, I don’t know).
Location: I don’t need to explain this, right??? >_> Come on kids...
I will post photos separately after the post because my phone takes really LOOOONNNNNGGGG photos so the post would be freakin’ long if I didn’t separate them. I’m also going to apologize for the picture quality because I don’t have any formal lighting/photography equipment outside of my camera and my phone.

Introduction!!!
Hello kids! My name is JAI-Z, not to be mistaken with the underground rapper Jay-Z, obviously. Mine’s all caps and has an I, not a Y. Anyway, welcome to my lovely blog all about dessert places all over NYC!!! I have just recently asked a friend to provide me a list of dessert bars all over New York and she...she gave me A LOT. I’ve just recently went to the first location on the massive list and decided that I wanted to journal the journey. BUT I also didn’t want to waste paper (I just didn’t want to buy another journal) so I decided to blog instead. Please note that the to-be posted reviews are all my own opinion, so you easily butt-hurt, please be kind on my soul, thanks ^^. I am hoping to go on this sweet adventure over Summer 2018, while also losing weight. Let’s see how well that plays out, haha. If you guys eventually want, I could also post some fitness tips on losing weight, but that’s assuming anyone reads this. Anywhooooooooo, that’s a lot of words, welcome to Yummy Desserts NYC!
