I was asked to review Strawberry Vinegar by the composer after putting out some forum feelers volunteering myself to do game soundtrack reviews. Strawberry Vinegar is a “slice of life” visual novel recently released on Steam and the composer uses the moniker Yuzuki. Congrats to the team for the game release! From the description:

Sakuraba Rie, aged nine, is a cynical and grumpy girl who cares little for her fellow classmates, and does not have a single friend. That is, until a self-proclaimed demon from the deepest, darkest pits of Hell suddenly appears in Rie’s kitchen and steals a tray of cookies. What will happen between these two young girls? Will friendship blossom between them, or perhaps something more? That is up to the reader to decide - but rest assured, no matter what, there will lots and lots of delicious food!

The soundtrack consists of mostly piano, keyboard and guitar driven instrumental music with a cute and Japanese style that compliments the style of the game well. The tracks all have appetizing food-based titles like Candyfloss and Bento Box. In particular the ones that that really stood out to me were Omurice with the intricate guitar strums and grace notes, and Sherbert Nightmare with the ominous church organ accompanied by harpsichord. There is a lot of catchy melody writing through out, and I think aficionados of Japanese games and visual novels will find it effective.

My cute slice of life/comedy VN, Strawberry Vinegar, has been released on Steam! It’s a relatively fluffy VN about cute young girls doing cute things, eating cute food, wearing cute clothes, and maybe - quite cutely - falling in love (but only when they get older). The characters have a wide variety of outfits, and there are lots of CGs of delicious food to collect. The VN has 6 endings, some of which are happier than others, and the story will change depending on the choices you make. The art was done by the very talented SillySelly, who also worked on my sad Romanticism yuri VN Asphyxia, and my free supernatural yuri VN, The Sad Story of Emmeline Burns. The music was composed by the equally talented yuzuki, and the writing/programming was done by me.
