Fun fact
I actually have the art for Cass’s first wanted poster done (mostly). Not the whole poster itself, the bounty isn’t put down but the art is basically done
Now I just actually have to get to Cass’s bounty in the fic
#night’s bedtime stories#sunny d cassandra#one piece oc#an oracles odyssey#I’m likely to keep tweaking it until I actually post it#I could also post the art now if anyone wanted to see it#or at least a cropped version#I’m really proud of it actually#it’s not perfect but it’s one of the best pieces of art I’ve ever done

Are you still posting on AO3 for An Oracle's Odyssey? I just finished reading all 16 in under 48 hours and it hasn’t been updated since January (´-ω-`)
An Oracle’s Odyssey is currently on hiatus but the story has not been abandoned if that what your asking. I’m hoping to get another chapter in the next couple months though I give no promises

just reread aoo bc i miss cass, and the last scene with zoro checking in on them and comforting them hit me with Emotions. i love their dynamic so much
Cass was exhausted, beyond it even.
They loved their crew, they truly did, more than anything in the world. But that did not change the fact that they were a handful.
They had awoken mere hours after falling asleep, heart racing from a half remembered nightmare and they had been unable to go back to sleep. Luffy had dragged them to this and that, destroyed some things which they were in charge of fixing. Not to mention the rest of the crew.
But, it was fine, because Cass loved their crew and used that love to power through the exhaustion etched into their bones.
They walked across the deck, mentally lining up the laundry list of chores and tasks they still had to complete.
But then-
"Oof."
A callused hand wrapped itself firmly around their wrist, pulling them down onto the deck, head cushioned on a warm body.
"Quit your pacing," Zoro grumbled, eyes closed. "I feel exhausted just looking at you."
"I-" They tried, because they knew if they stayed silent now their throat would close up, and they still had things to do.
"Don't care," Zoro cut them off before they could start, pulling them closer. "Nap now, worry later."
And...
How was Cass supposed to say no to that?
Cass loved their crew so much their heart ached with it, so they adjusted themself slightly, tucked away their headphones and curled into Zoro's side, listening to his very pleased Voice.
They had never been able to dent their crew much, after all.

So basically what you're saying is

Pretty much
Cass cannot be trusted to take care of themself in any meaningful way

This is going in my drafts for now but I might post it eventually so here it is
Sunny D Cassandra and their relationship with their own humanity!
So, one of, if not the, most defining character trait Cass has is their constant dehumanization of themself.
It is not a conscious, self hating thing, but rather just an inbuilt part of them. They are deeply empathetic towards people, and in their mind, they are not really a person.
Beyond spoilers reasons (that I will come back to when we get there) this stems from their relationship with their dad.
When they were young, they came out. This caused problems and was very clearly leading to the divorce of their parents. Their dad blamed them for this, said it to their face even, and they internalized it.
Their wants and needs were leading to the destruction of their family. Their human needs were leading to the destruction of their family.
So they decide to throw them away. They stop correcting their father on their gender and tell their mother it's okay despite the fact that it's not okay in the slightest.
This is, of course, not long after their grandfather died which is around the time they also started staying with their grandmother after school as a caretaker of sorts.
It wasn't that their grandmother was physically incapable of taking care of herself, but rather that she just couldn't be alone in her house after the death of her husband.
So Cass started putting aside their own needs even more to make sure their grandmother was okay.
They spend the next five-ish years doing this.
By the time they get isekaid, they have pretty much fully stopped viewing themself as a person with wants and needs. Instead they see themself as a vessel in which the wants and needs of their loved ones can be met.
It's why when they can't be that, when their own wants and needs and emotions get it the way, they are so upset at themself. It's why they constantly forget to eat, forgoing it in favor of working on whatever project or plan they're working on at the moment. It's why we see them constantly struggling when asking for things that are purely for themself. It's why we see them continually push themself for prophecies despite it being harmful.
It's the reason why they love stories so much. Because stories are a way for them to regain that humanity they have given up without jeopardizing the role they have assigned themself. A way to live and experience things without filling in the space inside themself they hollowed out for others.
That is, of course, not to say that they did so completely successfully. They are still a teenager. We see them being spiteful in their theft of their father's lighter. We see them get emotional over possibly seeing someone get murdered in front of them. We see them ask for fabric from Kaya despite feeling guilty over it. We see them still desire and long for acceptance of their gender identity.
But, if given enough time, if they weren't removed from the situation, they likely would have ended up succeeding. They would have turned themself into the hollowed out vessel they thought they were supposed to be
Of course, they got isekai'd but also back in their own world things were starting to change. The reason they were fighting with their sister is because Aster realized what was happening, what Cass was doing to themself and was making moves to change things.
Not that they can't still end up that way without intervention but, with Luffy there? Something tells me it'll turn out fine
#night’s bedtime stories#sunny d cassandra#an oracles odyssey#also posting this now#I’m trying to get back into writing#hoping this will help#please talk to me about my fic or Cass in general

Because I miss Cass abd I was thinking about it
Do you guys consider Cass animal-coded in anyway, and if so what animal are they? Or do you just associate them with a specific animal?
#night’s bedtime stories#sunny d cassandra#an oracles odyssey#I might make a poll of this based on the answers#I have no clue what animal Cass reads as coded for

I miss Cass.
What are their thoughts on ORV side characters?
I also miss Cass (<- I say as if I’m not the author. I swear I’ll start writing again at some point. School is just kicking my ass and I’m supremely burnt out)
ANYWAY!
I suppose it depends on who you consider a side character
If you mean outside of YooHanKim, they love all of KimCom dearly but they definitely have a biased towards Jung Heewon, Yoo Sangha and Lee Gilyoung
If you’re talking outside KimCom, they are particularly fond of Kim Dokja’s constellations, especially Uriel, Persephone and Sun Wukong. Secretive Plotter also holds a very special place in their heart, as does every version of YooHanKim
They are also a big Kyrgios fan. Funny tiny man makes head go burr. They just find him neat <3
If you have any other specific characters you want to know their thoughts about feel free to ask

Cass would figure out who Kira is by accident. Light would be too busy trying to find out what the D. means to kill them.
Cass is in the right (or wrong depending on how you look at it) place at the right time and sees Light being all Light about everything and goes, “huh.” And walks away planning on how to prove Light is Kira
(I could also see Cass’s oracle ass just casually being able to see Shinigami and other mythological creatures and such and seeing Ryuk hanging around Light and being pissed about it)
Anyway! Light would totally be trying to figure out what the D. Stands for and lowkey going insane over it meanwhile Cass has slid up to L with whatever proof they scrounged up all “That guys the killer, don’t die like a loser”

Discrepancy #41.5
This note about “why did ABDF choose me” isn’t in the novel (as far as I can tell. I might’ve missed it):

[ORV Webtoon, Episode 8]
That does raise an interesting question. Why did he pick Dokja? Why did any of the four first constellations pick Dokja?
I like that it’s a question Dokja actively points out. It’s not one of those things you think about just reading it. Readers tend to just accept whatever plot points come up. “This happens because the authors says it does.”
I don’t know if this line of thought actually goes anywhere. I feel like it got brought up and then never mentioned again. I was just thinking about it because of my research project on ORV lmao.
#reblog stuff#for ABFD I think it’s an early example of the parallels between KDJ and KNW#I’m pretty sure SP was watching KDJ’s stream to see his former companions and the saw KDJ being an anomaly#for Uriel#im fairly sure she stumbled across the stream while tending to the sheep and got attached#don’t quote me on that#and for SWK#I actually can’t think of it off the top of my head#I also think KDJ being the most ancient dream/oldest dream plays a part in it#there’s more meta narrative stuff too I’m sure#omniscient reader's viewpoint

Just started reading ORV (not that far in but I am lightly spoiled on some plot points bc of friends) and trans Kim Dokja would hit diff if Fourth Wall's censor helped cover how fem his body shape is
Like that'd be fucking hilarious
'i didn't think the apocalypse had to happen for people to be more accepting of my gender' says local man, who has a skill that literally convinces others that his boobs don't exist
Imagine the misunderstandings. Imagine them, please, I beg of you. I need someone to vibrate on the same wavelength as me when it comes to everyone literally not Knowing He Is Trans because HE LOOKS LIKE A FUZZY BLOB.
Kim Dokja, very confused but very glad that people are so accepting when he knows he doesn't pass as a guy. Kim Dokja, scrunching his face when people talk down to women and look at him like he'll implicitly agree because he's one of the boysss. Kim Dokja, getting weird ass stares for the menstrual products he has on hand-- (OH GOD BATHROOM BREAKS, BATHROOM BREAKS WOULD BE SUCH A HILARIOUS SUBJECT, IMAGINE HIM GOING TO THE WOMEN'S BC OF HABIT AND GETTING TUGGED BACK BY SOMEONE ELSE STERNLY LIke stop laughing Sangah-ssi, you're being such a bully rn)
He just looks like a thin frail looking stick of a guy, it's like only when people get close and touch (if you're even allowed to... the kids get that privilege via hugs) that some areas seem to have more give than others while others seem more expansive than they actually are. When you set your hand on his shoulder, the hazy form is lower and tinier than you expected... He's so weird.
