I was amazed by the work they have made, i’m really looking forward to our end if year show to produce similar work with high quality

This brief of this project was sustainability, everyone have achieved the challenged and made artwork considering ethics and their importance in art and design. One of the artwork was a decorative art made up of plastic material— this shows the students r ethical designers and care for the environment, reusing existing material to create impressive and interested art. As an ethical artist I am aiming to create similar artwork recycling materials.

Reflection

The purpose of the project was to apply our previous abilities obtained over the previous two years to FMP.

Throughout the last two years, I've worked on a variety of projects, each of which these projects helped me to develop deeper skills and knowledge into a different fields in graphic design.

FMP challenged me to think about myself as a designer while also communicating a topic through art that is related to the field of graphic design that I am passionate about.

I wanted to learn more about UI design because I'm interested in moving into user interface and user experience design as a career. However, after some research and my interview at BCU, I've decided not to pursue this field because it's not something I want to do as a job. Instead, I'll learn to code and build websites as a personal skill that I can use in my career

I changed my idea to explore a personal project because I was inspired by photoshop manipulation art.

My aim is to pick up abilities and different skills in photoshop that I may use in the future, I developed my approach to investigating personal dreams. I intended to gain more confidence in creating images in Photoshop, however my initial idea developed as I read an article about a Palestinian child. I chose to research into children in war because I am passionate about bringing awareness about global issues and create designs for a better cause.

Despite my uncertainties about the project's outcomes and premise, I believe I did exceptionally well. I was able to design my final design in illustrator in a short amount of time and with limited resources. I handled my time well, but I was unable to complete my final works, which I had hoped to complete before the end of year show.

I used my time wisely to generate ideas and come up with my final outcomes, I’m planning to complete them as I only need to develop my jigsaw pieces more (design wise), order cardboard and laser cut them. Also, I will be sending my box net design to digitally print from a shop as my screen print idea failed. I intend to exhibit them as part of my final show.

Future plan for project

The box will be crafted to present two different perspective that will support to deliver a message. It will have two different contrasting viewpoints that both have different purpose. Half of the box will act as a perfect jigsaw box that will create an interest in the viewer to investigate the purpose of a normal everyday game that many children have, and the other side will represent the reality. To add realism, I will be using painting to add small details that will present the box as torn and damaged. This will represent the viewpoint that many do not see in the lives of children in war. The damaged parts are a representative of what a child faces every day, their beloved belongings are lost thus their childhood is destroyed. The second part in my model will be the jigsaw pieces. These are the main objects that will help answer the questions that are created by the first appearance. The jigsaw pieces are different sizes highlighting the amounts of trauma different children goes through their life. This cannot be understood by anyone other than the child which is why the pieces can not be joined together by a viewer to ‘completely understand their stories’. The pieces will hold a story line of the child’s trauma at different stages, and I will be creating a few extra jigsaws that will perfectly connect to each other. They play a significant role to help me deliver my purpose. These will have text from a third point of view and contain messages that a human being and particularly a child should be entitled to. It will summaries what the child could have been if they were not affected by war. These important pieces will allow the viewer to sympathise and think deeply about my model. It will help spread a message that should be given importance, especially in this advanced world we live in where human rights and the safety of children should not be abused in any way. Furthermore, my pieces will have a third set of jigsaws that will act as a mountain of other children’s stories. To not distract the viewer from my main point, these pieces will be blank. It will not overwhelm the audience and effectively present the idea that if one storyline is hard to put together and understand, then realising the stories of other children is impossible.

I tried to create a visual of heartbeat through text to symbolise the lives lost in war, however, it’s not balanced and creates a lot of visual destruction taking the viewer attention away. One of the main problem is that I am having a lot of negative space and it’s making the artwork stable, also it’s doesn’t reflect on the message I’m trying to communicate to my audience.

Experimenting/Developing my final piece —jigsaw puzzle

I was playing around my layout and adding text and analysing my space. I’ve been working in illustrator using ruler to maintain balance and grid to have an organised structure. I tried to place the text at a different angles to represent the how war occur and it’s impact some people more than the other, however, it’s not clear visually and creates a lot of distraction, taking away viewer attention

I will be experimenting and developing to develop my final idea for the project final outcome.

Final jigsaw pieces Development

In Illustrator, I created jigsaw pieces and experimented with different text layouts to discover what best suited my aesthetics. My original plan was to utilise jigsaw puzzle pieces to portray trauma and the effects of conflict on children in many places.

Each jigsaw piece was supposed to represent a child, but I came up with my own concept.

To depict a day in the lives of one child, focusing on their experiences, but progressively expanding to a much bigger concept in which I am examining different children and their experiences.

Their experiences are linked to their childhoods, creating a contrast between a healthy life and a life spent growing up in a conflict.

I made a mistake when rendering my animation since I forgot to add a white background layer, resulting in a dark background. I created my document in RGB, but when I moved it to After Effects, the shade was grey, so I had to convert it to CMYK for a better colour match and added a white background.
