“I met his gaze steadily as I slammed his head into the wall again, trying not to let my face contort, trying not to look angry or cruel. Most likely he was past knowing anything. But if he could still see me, I wanted him to know I wasn’t doing this because I hated him. Quite the contrary. Before, I had only seen him as a means to an end. But in these final moments of his life, I loved him. I told him so as I pushed the scalpel into the soft spot just below his left ear. His eyes were alight with pain and dread—two emotions I always regretted seeing under such intimate circumstances—but they had already begun to fog. Warmth soaked my fingers, trickled over my wrist, pooled in the crook of my arm. Sam’s head fell back. A great wet red mouth yawned in his neck. For an instant its edges were a pristine delineation of tissues, a perfect cross section of his throat’s various layers. Then it disgorged a solid torrent of blood, painting the stall, raining into the toilet, drenching Sam’s face and the front of his coat. I thrust him to one side and barely got out of the way. His dying body crumpled into a corner of the stall, wedged in between the wall and the toilet. His face was a red slick, featureless, blind. He was nothing but particles now, if he had ever been anything more. I had only altered the speed at which his particles were vibrating. Nothing in the universe had been disturbed.”

I spent years looking at Alien online. I had never smelled it, but the name and bottle design pulled me in. The notes didn't particularly appeal to me, but I just... Couldn't stay away. When I finally got my hands on a sample it was a done deal.
I never had the opportunity to smell the original formula. I often wonder what I missed out on. If this version is so lovely, how could the older juice be even better?
Regardless, Alien and Aura dragged me into the world of Mugler and I'm hooked. Most days, I'm wearing something from this house.

I had such low expectations for this but it was so good. Represented the novel fantastically and the attention to detail with all of the 80s set dressings was *chefs kiss*

This little guy is a very special frag in my collection. It's not the most expensive or the most rare - it's actually pretty dang affordable and easy to get your hands on. But it really stands out, and not just because of the funky bottle. This scent is so incredibly unique while also being easy to love. Extremely androgynous imo. Peppery, rosey, a bit sweet while remaining fresh. If someone described this to me, I'd be completely uninterested. Even the note pyramid doesn't catch my interest. I'm so glad I grabbed a sample of this and gave it a shot. Out of everything I own, if I had to choose just one fragrance as my signature for life - Moschino Toy Boy would be the winner.

Reread John Dies At The End this weekend, and there’s this one bit that I think really encapsulates the whole vibe of the series.
In the scene in Las Vegas, when they’re running from the teleporting wig monsters and the group has barricaded themselves behind a door while trying to work out a plan with Marconi, John offhandedly asks why the monsters are bothering to try and brute-force the door when they can just teleport instead. After he says this, the monsters outside stop pounding on the door and are heard murmuring amongst themselves, and the gag is that the monsters themselves didn’t even think to try that until they overheard John. This is actually a fairly boilerplate gag. I’ve seen gags along this line- the heroes accidentally reminding the monsters they’ve got an easy way in- multiple times.
Then one of the monsters immediately teleports in and kills Big Jim.
That’s not an incidental death. Over the course of the novel, Big Jim is revealed to have been one of the first people to figure out the full extent of what’s going on with Korrok’s invasion, he’s revealed to have stunning levels of insight into, and practical experience using the Soy Sauce, and his sister Amy- the last surviving member of the family following his death- is left vulnerable to exploitation by Korrok’s forces at least in part due to his absence, which forms the whole back-half of the novel. Even outside of plot relevance he’s a pretty fleshed-out figure in terms of how he relates to the community of Undisclosed and in John and Dave’s lives specifically. And now he’s dead. The one-off Scooby-doo style whacky-chase scene gag gives way to a genuinely colossal fuck-up on John’s part, a fuck-up with far-reaching implications that get brushed over in the heat of the moment because of the, you know, the incipient hell-fountain. But the innocuous gag mattered! John was careless and it bit him in the ass immediately. And all of the books are threaded through with examples of stock gags that abruptly mutate into something serious, or with heat-of-the-moment, easy-to-overlook fuckups by the protagonists that ripple forward and make the situation even harder to handle. This is such a good series
