I never played a dragonage game, but the first two are waiting in my library, and the veilguard is on my wish list after some high praise from my best friend. I'm guessing you played all three so i have some questions: Are they open world games where you choices influence the story or are they rather linear? Are the first 2 also that good? Should you play them to understand the story/world? Nearly finished with baldur's gate 3 and i need a new obsession for the new year to procrastinate studying🙈

Both dragon age origins and dragon age 2 are games that let you explore only certain areas so in that aspect they're linear, unlike inquisition that is an open world game. I would say that the first two games are greatly influenced by your choices, inquisition in my opinion slightly lacks in that regard but it's still decent. Although don't expect to get immensely different endings in two dragon age playthroughs like you would in bg3.

If you asked me (and majority of the fandom) dragon age origins is objectively the best game in the franchise. Dragon age 2 seems to be either loved or hated but I personally love it even though it has en entirely different feeling compared to dao.

I played inquisition before playing the first two and I honestly wouldn't recommend it. You can certainly watch a YouTube video that explains the world of Thedas and what happened in the first games but it doesn't compare to playing them for yourself. Since your whole world state can be transferred into inquisition you will see every choice from the previous games being mentioned even 12 years later, even as small codex entries.

If you do end up playing them I hope you enjoy these games to the fullest because for me playing dragon age was truly a brain altering experience.

My Rook is not a perfect angel. She's so far from that actually that I'm sure some people will read this and say she's a bad person (even though we all know that Varric would never recruit a bad person).

Of course she's classist and thinks the poor people of Dock Town are poor only because they're either not trying hard enough or because they simply don't have the capability to be anything greater ("Poor people are pool only because they're incompetent. If they had what it takes, they would've reached the magisterium.").

But she doesn't have this mindset because she's a bad person. It's because she can't see past her own privilege. She hasn't ever even been to Dock Town. She rarely interacts with non mages at all. She has no experiences for herself, most her beliefs are build upon the poison the high class of Minrathous has grilled into her since birth.

And yes she might just be an asshole all together because she likes being the predator more than the pray. Because she would rather attack rather than defend. And maybe because having people immediately dislike her is easier than having people actually care about her.

But she's good.

It's why Varric, or the Viper, or her uncle Dorian didn't give up on her. She might be an asshole but somewhere in there there's a heart of gold waiting to escape the cage of prejudice. Rook just needs to find the key. And she does eventually.
