A private practice group, as well as a medical research lab, dedicated to the more individual cases of Radial Island. "That's not surprising, I don't know many people who play it anymore...I feel like it's mostly a kid's thing these days. I'd be happy to try and pull more people in too, though, if you'd wanna play daifugō! But I'm happy just to talk."

There was a lot you could learn about a person from how they talked, after all. Body language, infliction of the voice, what they were actually saying...it was interesting to pick people apart like that. Of course, that wasn't something he would say, since he learned easily that people didn't always appreciate him studying and observing them.

...that never stopped him, though, and he was sure it was obvious in his eyes, and in the way he was looking other people over.

"Both, honestly. I don't mind sayin' it, but I'm a psychologist and medical researcher, so asking questions is a big part of that job. Hobby wise, I just enjoy learning about living creatures. So I ask questions of all kinds."

"...and especially here, where I've gotta ask questions back; what do you do? You seem young, so maybe a student, but I could be wrong."

"Hmm~. I've heard of buta no shippo, but I've never played it. If we pull someone else in, daifugō could pass the time adequately." Hiyori didn't need the distraction, though; he could fill enough hours chatting aimlessly. Others may not be as satisfied simply by the sound of his voice.

He took a sip of his tea. He was getting "commoner with potentially wealthy family friends" from this man, which was always an intriguing concept. What drew that sort of family to the other? Perhaps something to let go of for the duration of this dreamlike evening, unless the perfect opportunity presented itself.

Placing the teacup down, he asked instead, "Why is it you are more accustomed to asking the questions? Is it part of your hobby or profession?"

Police officer was an option. Simply based on looks, that would be even more fascinating.

"Oh, right. They do have toys like this...never had one, but I remember people would talk about it in school sometimes. Though they were a lot less...sophisticated than these."

Honestly, he wasn't sure about them. They'd be really interesting to study, at least, but he had always been awful with things like computers and phones...this would be tricky for him to figure out. But-- that line of thought pauses when the other introduces themselves, and Aki realizes that he had kinda skipped over that part when first talking.

"Ah, right. Name's Aki. Good to meet you!"

"Beats me." Magnolia chuckles as she runs a finger along the monitor, "I've never seen anything like them before. We don't have stuff like this---Unless they're toys."

Humming, Magnolia rises to her feet to face her new company, "But they don't seem at all like toys, huh? Just your normal breathing and living dogs with monitors for heads."

"I'm Magnolia by the way."

Socializing really wasn't his area of strength but...when something made him curious, he couldn't help but follow those whims wherever they lead him. It was only after interrupting the other that Aki felt a little bad about pausing their stretches but...

At least they replied, and that was all he needed to keep going.

"I just walk around here a lot and haven't seen you around before! And honestly, I'm just tryin' to meet people who seem like they come from places pretty different from my world. I'm a researcher, so, it's just interesting to hear about different worlds and people and all that."

Ah, wait...maybe he was being too forward?

"If you've got time, and that's not weird to ask, anyways."

Sonic blinks, pausing in their stretches to look up at the stranger. A foot taps, filled with restless energy that they were about to let go of during a nice, good run...

Buuut making new friends, in a place where they didn't have to worry about G.U.N getting on their case about at least trying to stay hidden from the public, takes priority.

"Howdy! Yeah, I got here pretty recently. Can I help ya with somethin, bud?" They grin back, returning the little wave as well.

"Yeah, I agree. This one's a lot more personal than what I'm used to. Still formal, but...really relaxed at the same time. Family friend of mine was the one holdin' these types of parties, so we've got that in common."

Still. It wasn't really his scene, but he hadn't gone out and socialized much either. It was good to get out sometimes so he didn't get himself trapped in the same old cycle of rotting away in his house alone with only books to keep him company.

Plus -- it meant he could meet plenty of interesting people.

"Oh, yeah. I'm kinda used to being the one asking questions, so I forgot," Aki chuckles a little and shifts to start laying the cards out, though it's less of an invitation to start playing and more so just something to do with his hands. "I guess when I was younger, with two of my friends, we'd play buta no shippo a lot. I think other places call it Pig's Tail. Daifugō's the one I play the most, with the people I know now."

"Of course! I've attended parties like this since I was old enough to walk. It's wonderful to be tall enough to take whichever little delight I want now," Hiyori answered with a wink. He was already holding a pleasantly warm cup of jasmine tea as he sat at the cute, flowered table the hostess had set up.

"My family and their associates still hold similar parties, but I can't say any of them feel as personal as this one does." It was the difference between flaunting wealth at every opportunity and just using what one had to work with to make something nice.

"I'm supposed to ask you a question as well, correct? What sort of games do you usually play with a deck like that?"

"Man, I haven't really been to a party like this since I was a kid..."

Aki's hands dance over the deck of cards he has settled in them, shuffling them idly as he talks. He isn't really the best at card games - Tsugino and Fuyu always managed to beat him, something about having a bad poker face - but there were a few people sitting around them, so he might as well join in and get to know some more people here, start a conversation with someone else who was just sitting around.

"'Course those parties were a lot less fun," A small breath escapes him, the start of a laugh. Naturally those parties were always at the Ushirono's house, and always some kind of big political get together. He only got to go as a neighbor and a friend to the family. "You ever been to a get together like this? I feel like they aren't really common anymore."

Popping it down for reference! He's really not much of a fancy dresser, but he's actually been to his fair share of nicer events like this...may as well dress up a little! Here's Aki's getup for the garden party!

As one ventures deeper into the Forest of Airisal, they begin to hear a piano's soft notes. Quiet at first, barely audible even but as they continue toward the sound it becomes sort of an invitation. After a bit of a winding path, trees adorned by string lights guide the way to a cottage with the music now fully audible. Walk around to the back and you'll find yourself with a quaint little scene. Tables and chairs adorned with various species and colors of flowers, and large vases of flowers are scattered about whilst the trees encircling the clearing that is Tsuru's backyard are also alive with lights. In the center sits a grand piano, one at whose bench Tsuru remains seated. Fingers glide across piano keys, resonant and melancholy with a touch of nostalgia.

Once finished, she rises and begins welcoming her guests. "Thank you all for coming. Whether it be the first time we meet or you happen to be acquainted with me, I welcome you to my home. Though it may not be as grand as the forests of the Black Shroud, I remain thankful that so many have come to join me. Now, shall we make this into a grand evening?" After that introduction, she opens her arms in welcome so that they may all begin making themselves comfortable as she explains the activities for the night.

okay hello! to reiterate from the original post: this isn't an official event and will not count towards any rank-ups, it's simply a little member-run party that i organized on my own time and put together. it's a pretty simple party, nothing too grand but tsuru put together a few little activities for people to take part in! i'm making them vague to give you all enough creative freedom to have some hopefully interesting threads! the activities are as followed:

croquet, because what is a garden party without a classy game like that? wickets are set up a little ways away from the tables and mallets are available for people.

card games, there's a couple decks of cards on each of the tables that people will be able to play with if they want! some of them might be familiar to you, some might not. she picked up a whole bunch that probably come from other worlds so it seems feasible that something you're familiar with may or may not show up! (they're all harmless games, nothing out of hand should happen)

tsuru really wants this to be a bit of an icebreaker gathering so she asks that when starting a conversation with someone new, you ask them a question, if you'd like! can be meaningful, can be silly, but it has to be a question!

there's also a few soft rules for the party, which tsuru would be very grateful if you respected!

no alcohol of any kind around the premises, please. you also won't be able to obtain any hard drinks from the waiting staff and mika will not be happy if she sees someone breaking this rule. your character is free to break it but there may or may not be consequences ic.

no violence if you can help it. yes, your powers may or may not be uncapped and no one can really stop you...except for other characters with the power to! so again, ic consequences.

and that's it really! have fun! tsuru will be playing on the piano throughout the night, with help when she's not. you're free to request songs and she'll play anything as long as you can pull up sheet music for her. yes, even the ridiculous songs.

in character, this party begins on April 6th at 5PM EST (which is now) and ends at 12AM EST. out of character, you will be able to make starters from now (April 6th, 5PM EST) to next saturday (April 13th, 12AM EST) the tag for starters pertaining to this party should be tagged appropriately with the additional tag of "#isola garden party" so that people are aware of what your character might be talking about! anywho that's all! have fun!

The Land of Brunt Umber wasn't really the kind of place Aki would normally go to hang out - he hated the heat...but at the very least, it wasn't humid, so it was a little easier to just dress down and stay cool.

It had been so long since he went camping last, though, and he had heard talk of the people around here being friendly and willing to help people who were interested in exploring out. He had never really been to the desert before, so advice was definitely what he needed more than anything else.

...but he didn't expect to see someone with a giant cross amongst the crowd. People that stuck out usually had good advice to give, right? Right.

"'scuse me! Are you from this area? Or, uh...at least do you hang out here a bunch?"

There were a lot of things in this place he had gotten used to. The presence of magic, of other worlds, of strange events...

...but non-human beings were still something he hadn't quite gotten used to seeing around. Or...he had gotten used to it, but it still made him immensely curious. Their physiology, their worlds, the differences between them.

So, when he spotted someone new, looking like they were getting ready for a run, he couldn't help but run up with a little smile and a wave.

"Hey! Are you new around here? I don't think I've seen you before."

Normally it was cats that jumped at him out of nowhere - not dogs. A sad thing to be used to but...well, that was life. Cats never liked him, and he didn't like them either. Dogs he loved, and this was new but thankfully someone was around to help him out.

"Ah, yeah...I'm fine. And you're right - though I probably startled it too. Can't be mad about that."

That wasn't important right now, though.

What was important was this girl, but it didn't seem like she was hurt at all. Prosthetics or...? No, it looked more full-body than just a prosthetic. Interesting, but not something he wanted to pry about right away.

"I should be askin' you if you're okay though. That bite wasn't a gentle one."

♾ "Are you alright? The animal appears to have fled." Aigis probably wasn't the one who should have been in the position to ask that. She was the one who had jumped out just in time to block an incoming attack from a hungry dog. It had jumped at this man, but had bitten into her metallic arm instead.

It hadn't liked that at all, and had run off.

"Poor thing. I'm sure it just needs to be fed. I should procure the appropriate foods and bring some here later."

Now, dogs were great. Some of his favorite animals, really, and so much better than cats! But...monitors for heads? There were some things in this city he never thought he'd get used to.

"Cute, but...how do they even work?"

Someone just happened to be around them too - and though Aki knew she wasn't really talking to him, he couldn't help but speak up. Maybe she knew, and he'd get an answer.

Dogs with monitor for heads. She's seen it all, hasn't she? Kneeling down, she waits for one of the netpups to come to her before she reaches out to pet them.
